PartySlate’s Regional Lead Katie Leviton knew that she wanted her wedding chuppah to be different from the others that she had seen throughout the years. “I went to 12 weddings prior to my own,” she tells us, “and I really wanted our chuppah to be a center focus of the event.”
Many couples share Katie’s wish. Nina Vosko, Director of Sales and Marketing at Yanni Design Studio, a luxury event design company, shares, “The chuppah design is one of the most important elements of a Jewish wedding. The ceremony that occurs between the newlywed couple underneath the chuppah symbolizes two souls becoming one and the creation of a Jewish home.”
Chuppah designs continue to evolve over the years. “In the Jewish religion,” Vosko tells us, “a chuppah requires a cloth canopy and four poles to symbolize the creation of a jewish home.” From there, styles diverge. Vosko continues, “Once a couple comes in for their design consultation, we build off of their design ideas while adding a YDS touch!” You’ll find some of their gorgeous designs below, ranging from one style to the next.
Katie’s own chuppah, designed by HMR Designs, began with her wedding style. “I wanted my wedding to be modern, with the chuppah as the wow statement for the ceremony. I originally saw a whimsical chuppah with strung flowers and loved how different it looked,” she told us. “But after finding a photo of one with crystals, I was sold. I loved that there were no flowers and it sparkled in every photo.” The beauty of the design continued to dazzle guests even after the ceremony ended. “We used the ‘roof’ of the chuppah as a canopy over the band, and it was the perfect addition to the stage,” she tells us.
Finding the right Jewish wedding chuppah is an important part of your wedding to-do list. As Katie explains, “To this day, three years later, I still have people compliment the chuppah.” Keep reading to discover some of our favorite chuppah designs to complement your own wedding style. We’ll also connect you with the best design teams in the industry. With PartySlate, planning a wedding has never been easier.

Garden Wedding Chuppahs
Trees hold a special place in the Jewish tradition (in fact, trees have their very own holiday called Tu Bishvat). Therefore, it’s no surprise that Jewish weddings often take place in beautiful garden settings.
Garden-style chuppahs can range from picturesque gazebos to custom-crafted designs that emulate the “Tree of Life” itself. Use accentual florals to elevate the romantic ambiance, or highlight the beauty of the natural world with an emphasis on pure greenery.

Jewish Wedding Chuppahs With Drapery
Drapery softens any setting. Chuppahs decorated in drapery add instant romance to your wedding ceremony — regardless of style. Stick with a monochromatic color palette or subtle color shifts for a more refined look. Add tendrils of greenery or floral accents to further soften or embolden the aesthetic.

We love texture on texture. This white-draped chuppah by HMR Design both blends and contrasts with the darker gold drapery in the background — creating a beautiful layering effect.

Chuppahs with Tropical Flair
We love tropical weddings for their tranquil beach color palettes, lavish flora, and dramatic ocean views. Take your cues from the picture-perfect scenery, and fashion your chuppah with a tropical vibe.
For greenery, look to monstera leaves and decadent palm fronds. Consider some of our favorite tropical flowers such as birds of paradise, orchids, and laceleaf. Whether you choose a sleek design to keep the views in sight, or a lush chuppah laden with greenery, make sure to choose décor that heightens the natural beauty of your tropical surroundings.
