When it comes to weddings — joyous events that gather friends and family from all parts of a couple’s life — it’s especially important to offer spots for mixing and mingling. When curating beautiful spaces for gathering, consider that event furniture rental companies have the newest and largest selection of gorgeous pieces. What’s not to love about a celebrity wedding? They offer up some of the most luxurious designs, incredible venues, and unique styles to inspire our own events — or simply just to ooh and ahh over. From setting trends such as getting married in domestic destinations (we’re talking the Biebers in South Carolina, Darren Criss in New Orleans, and DJ Tiesto in the Utah desert), to officially tying the knot months before their wedding day (hello, Chance the Rapper, then Sophie Turner), we’re loving all the similarities — and differences — between 2019’s epic celebrity weddings. The year was filled with so much A-list love, we had to narrow it down to the 19 we loved the most (in order of when they happened). Did your favorite duo — and wedding celebration — make the list?

The year’s celebrity weddings started with a bang — and a breakup. If you follow along with Bachelor Nation, then you know the beginning of this couple’s happily-ever-after was anything but. In “the most dramatic Bachelor finale ever,” Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to Becca Kufrin, only to change his mind and go after runner-up Lauren Burnham. After all the controversy came Lauren and Arie’s fairytale ending, and we would accept any rose for a wedding design like this.
Their destination celebration took place at the romantic Haiku Mill in Hawaii. Enchanted greenery and, of course, specialty garden roses from Mandy Grace Designs surrounded the Chris Harrison-officated “I dos,” which were planned by the expert team at Elements by K.H & Co. We love how the couple complemented their organic décor by going green and repurposing their ceremony arch by Rustic Maui Wedding into a dramatic reception entryway.
As if Valentine’s Day weekend doesn’t make us feel single enough, Glee star Darren Criss and his girlfriend of seven years, director and producer Mia Sweir, tied the knot on the 7th Saturday of 2019 with one of the most extraordinary celebrations we’ve seen. The New Orleans Museum of Art offered the perfect setting and location for the musical duo’s edgy taste. Kristin Banta of Kristin Banta Events planned “a dusk ceremony in the sculpture garden under the Spanish moss, an opium den-inspired cocktail reception… and a surprise explosive neon after-party inside the museum.”
Darren and Mia surprised their guests with more than an after party. They started the evening by officiating their own nuptials — Criss even provided the ceremony music, thanks to his songwriting background. The newlyweds continued their non-traditional night with a “first song” performance instead of a first dance, followed by an incredible concert reception. What else would you expect from the musical duo? They even incorporated some of our 2020 wedding trend predictions into their incredible day.
Another Glee-ful wedding indeed, Lea Michelle and her now-husband Zandy Reich celebrated their marriage with co-stars, family, and friends in romantic wine country. The bride and groom kicked off their planning process by calling on celebrity wedding planner, Lisa Vorce, who took care of every swoon-worthy detail. We love how the minimalistic Carneros Resort affair reflected the couple’s personality, including Lea’s love for music, with details such as sheet note-inspired place cards and a matching musical cake stand. The tented reception’s simple white and green décor palette is never going out of style — nor is our love for this sweet pair.
Chancelor Benett met his wife, Kristin Corley, at just nine years old — long before he was known as Chicago legend, Chance the Rapper. Sixteen years and one child later, Chance and Kristin said “I do” at the stunning Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California — all captured by Duke Images. Their A-list audience included Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, who sat with 150 other guests overlooking sweeping ocean views and a stunning white floral-framed rotunda from Nisie’s Enchanted Florist. Jeannie Savage of Details Details planned the remarkable day, which included an all-white ballroom reception and energizing live music — rumor has it Kanye even tried to join the band on stage.
Despite celebrating with nearly 700 guests, iconic designer Marc Jacobs and his love Char Defrancesco managed to keep their wedding festivities fairly private. Here’s what we do know: The proclaimed ‘wedding of the decade’ took place at The Grill, a luxurious New York City restaurant — and the fashion was fierce. A-list fashion figures from the infamous Anna Wintour to rising star Gigi Hadid were dressed to impress. It’s safe to say the dance floor itself could have been a runway as celebs partied to DJ Fat Tony’s 80s throwbacks.
Other reception highlights included an interactive, cartoon-inspired photo booth, a breathtaking five-tiered wedding cake from Ron Ben-Israel Cakes, chic floral arrangements from Ariel Dearie Flowers, caviar bars, dressed up dancers, and more. Guests were gifted custom loungewear at the end of the night, with a note reading “I came to Marc and Char’s wedding and all I got was this lousy sweatshirt.” If anyone has an extra, let us know.
The summer of 2019 came as fast as Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt’s marriage, and we couldn’t have asked for a better celebrity wedding to get it going. After dating for about a year, the beloved actor and author exchanged vows at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. Katherine’s modest white bouquet matched the chic reception, which included an outdoor cocktail hour, fresh and local cuisine, and music ranging from old school classics to modern hits — in other words, Neil Diamond to Miley Cyrus. We especially love how the celebration reflected the bride’s bright and bubbly personality throughout.
Katherine McPhee went overseas to marry David Foster in a beautiful ceremony at the Church of Saint Yeghiche in London, followed by a chic restaurant reception planned by Banana Split. The season 5 American Idol winner and Canadian musician first crossed paths in 2006, when McPhee sang a tune written by Foster as a contestant on the show. Could this have been love at first sound? Probably not, since they have both been married since, but they eventually found each other again and started officially dating in 2017. The couple wanted their Oswald’s Club reception to feel like they were in a loved one’s home. Their dream of a cozy celebration was met with a family-style dinner spread, floral-lined stair banister, and conversational setting.
The year 2019 wouldn’t be complete without Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ epic wedding(s). The megastars “secretly” married in a Las Vegas ceremony on May 1, which you may have watched — and wondered if it was real — thanks to American DJ, Diplo’s controversial Instagram live stream. Two months later, the Grammy-nominated ‘JoBro’ and Game of Thrones lead opted for a more romantic walk down the aisle in the South of France.
The destination wedding weekend began with a Hôtel La Mirande rehearsal dinner. Guests were asked to wear all white, while the bride and groom-to-be showed up in bold red ensembles, putting their own twist on tradition. The following day came a private Château du Martinet ceremony followed by a reception at the ever-elegant Château de Tourreau — all planned by the team at Joy Proctor Design. As expected, guests were asked to leave their phones behind (we’re looking at you, Diplo) as they celebrated the fun loving duo.
Oh, how we love a Bachelor Nation wedding. So much so, that we had to dedicate an entire article to Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon’s Newport, Rhode Island “I dos.” We won’t go into all the details of their complicated love story (aka, meeting on Bachelor in Paradise and all the tears that came after), but in the end, these two breakout stars got their fairytale ending — and a fairytale wedding to match.
The waterfront Rosecliff Mansion offered the perfect space for festivities, from the manicured terrace with sweeping sunset views for cocktail hour to the regal ballroom setting that housed the following reception. Simply Troy Lifestyle + Events worked with Birch Event Design to bring Ashley’s dream design to life. We love the luxe emerald focus, from the suede bar to the table linens and the matching bridesmaid’s dresses. Other memorable elements included photo booth pictures printed onto takehome donuts — the perfect parting gift for the who’s who of Bachelor Nation to post on Instagram — and we can’t forget the incredible music from Jordan Kahn Orchestra.
If only our wedding day portraits could look like this. The Bachelorette season 13 lead, Rachel Lindsay, fell in love as Bryan Alasolo hopped out of the limo and stole her heart on the first night of filming. Ten weeks and about a dozen roses later, Lindsay and Alasolo were engaged. The couple went from a two-year engagement to a six-month planning turnaround, with help from Mikie Russo of Michael Russo Events. The design team at Grupo Gama created an island-inspired atmosphere for the Mexico wedding, which perfectly complemented the tropical dinner menu and Royalton Suites Cancun venue.
No, it wasn’t a royal wedding — but it sure felt like one. Fans lined the streets of York to see native singer Ellie Goulding and her famous guest list enter York Minster Cathedral for the star’s August “I dos.” Goulding pulled up to the church in a royal blue VW van, which was embellished with florals that complemented the bride’s elegant white rose bouquet. It’s no surprise that every day-of detail was flawless — the couple’s wedding planner, Fait Accompli, is Kensington Palace’s go-to team, having planned the weddings of Princess Diana and Kate Middleton. Goulding and Jopling continued the celebration at Castle Howard with 300 guests that we can only assume ‘love her like we do.’
The most popular wedding month started with a true fan favorite. Longtime actor Miles Teller popped the question to his girlfriend of four years on a safari in South Africa, and the romantic proposal was followed by an even dreamier wedding. The couple secured the stunning Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua as their destination venue with help from the expert planners at Christie Rose Events.
We can’t get enough of the thoughtful décor details, including an original sapphire and white invitation suite from Ceci New York, which came full circle to match the outdoor cocktail hour’s standalone seating chart — and the Pacific Ocean backdrop, of course. Strung lights lit up the palm tree-framed reception, which featured magenta florals, tropical greenery, and a rustic wood dance floor at its center from the design team at Unveiled Hawaii. Oh, and did we forget to mention that DJ Kygo flew in to DJ the jungle-themed, ballroom-covered after party?
We know it’s no surprise that the Biebers made our favorite celebrity wedding list, but their A-list stardom isn’t the only reason. Hailey and Justin’s luxurious Montage Palmetto Bluff wedding weekend was worthy in itself. The Lowcountry South Carolina festivities began with a Sunday night rehearsal dinner in one of the 20,000-acre resort’s outdoor spaces. Mindy Weiss Party Consultants planned an enchanted night that included a boat ride entrance, an oyster roast, local cuisine, glowing candles, whimsical strung lights, and a bowling after party.
The couple’s exchange of vows took place in the resort’s Somerset Chapel. Guests were awaited by an ethereal ballroom reception that brought Beauty and the Beats to the night. Jaw-dropping ceiling foliage from the high-end floral team at Mark’s Garden served as the design’s focal point, while captivating candlelit tablescapes crafted by Revelry Event Designers drew guests in. As the party got going, the groom’s favorite color (purple) lit up the dance floor, while the star-studded crowd was seen sipping on bubbly from a glistening Moet bottle customized for the couple. Justin, we’re so happy you found somebody to love.
Monochrome aisles, pampas grass florals, minimalist bouquets — these are a few of our favorite things, and apparently they’re also favorites of Annika Backes and Tijs Michiel Verwest (otherwise known as DJ Tiesto), who wed in September. Colin Cowie of Colin Cowie Lifestyle planned the most magical desert day at Amangiri. The venue’s majestic mountain backdrop enhanced a striking red reception, along with rose-lined tables, moody projection lighting, and rows of flickering candles. Cowie described the incredible transition of events, including an after dinner surprise, where “guests were led back into the ceremony area, which we transitioned into the hottest nightclub, complete with a mirrored maze at the entry. The groom, DJ Tiesto, wrote and produced a song for his new bride, which played just before dancing and magical fireworks.”

If you’re a 90s baby, then this couple means more to you than most. That’s right: One Tree Hill’s Peyton Sawyer and Greys Anatomy’s Denny Duquette tied the knot in New York City to kick off October. After being together for over a decade, Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan decided to start a new one as husband and wife. We love this celebration for so many reasons — one being that the event served as a major One Tree Hill cast reunion, filling our inner middle school selves with so much joy. Guests raved about the couple’s perfect day, planned by Glow Events, at which the couple’s two children stood by their side as they exchanged heartwarming vows. Poppies and Posies added timeless floral décor to The Bowery Hotel’s boutique space, at which an intimate group of family and friends danced the night away in honor of “Mr. and Mrs. Morgan.”
Currently ranked as the number one singles tennis player in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Rafael Nadal is used to putting on a show. But this time, guests weren’t there to see him play. Nadal married his girlfriend of 14 years, insurance banker Mery Perello, in front of 350 attendees (including the previous King of Spain, Juan Carlos I). The notoriously private athlete kept his Mallorca nuptials secretive, which took place at one of the island’s most luxurious waterfront castles, La Fortaleza. The fortress’ stunning oceanfront scenery served as a picture-perfect wedding backdrop, and we love how the bride’s simple hydrangea bouquet let the view do the talking.
One day we’ll get to see photos from JLaws star-studded wedding, but for now, this stunning shot of their Rhode Island venue will do. The pair celebrated in the Belcourt of Newport, and we can’t think of a more perfect setting to bring out old Hollywood glamour vibes for the iconic actress and her beau. The Gilded Age mansion, which belongs to the owners of Alex and Ani, features royal French-inspired architecture, yards of perfectly manicured lawns, magnificent ballrooms, and breathtaking chandeliers.
Nearly 140 guests attended Jennifer and Cooke’s clambake rehearsal dinner the night prior, which took place on the coast under a chic white tent, in true East Coast style. Food was a major element at the reception itself, as the newlyweds treated A-list guests from Kris Jenner to Adele to a mouthwatering menu. Desserts included elevated s’mores and sourdough bread pudding, while the raging after party offered food trucks such as “Boston’s Baddest Food Truck” and “Maine-ly Lobstah.” The night transitioned to morning, with celebs filing out of the estate around 5:30 a.m. We would certainly volunteer as tribute to attend their next milestone celebration.

Who knew the stars would align when country music met reality TV? Lauren Bushnell, season 20 “winner” of The Bachelor, found love with country music star Chris Lane, and we’ve found love in their secret garden wedding design. The Nashville-based couple got married in their current hometown at 14TENN, a chic raw space. Josiah Carr of Ninth & Everett helped plan the perfect wedding in just four months, while Stella Rose Floral transformed the modern, barn-inspired venue into a dreamy indoor garden. Fresh greenery, rustic wood furniture, romantic candles, and 160 of their nearest and dearest filled the reception. We love the “The Lanes” neon signage that made an appearance in the duo’s wedding film — which Lane turned into a music video for his new song Big Big Plans (a song he dedicated to his new wife).
We’ll take a Victoria’s Secret Angel wedding over the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show any day. Model Devon Windsor swapped the runway for the aisle to marry her boyfriend Johnny Barbara (also known as Johnny Dex) in an intimate St. Barths wedding weekend, about a year after he popped the question in the Bahamas. The genetically-blessed couple clearly loves a tropical getaway, and we’re loving all the details from their beautiful oceanfront celebration.
From the beach party rehearsal dinner (fit with beer pong, cocktails, and the sound of crashing waves) to the floral-filled church ceremony and their “Just Married” Jeep Wrangler getaway, we can’t stop staring at all the photos from the tropical celebration, which was planned by Mindy Weiss of Mindy Weiss Party Consultants. Devon and Johnny’s Eden Rock Hotel reception started with a candlelit sunset cocktail hour, followed by a romantic reception filled with furniture that was handpicked by the groom. DJ Ross One and surprise guest performer Sean Paul kept the party going until the early hours of the next morning — and we’re not surprised no one wanted to go to bed.

There’s the wedding. Then the cocktail party. Then the party-party (also known as the reception). But, as you know, after the party is the after-party — the one that goes late, with guests (shoes off) watching the sun rise. After-the-wedding parties became one of the hottest trends in 2019, and we can certainly understand why. Whether your venue has a strict shut-off time, or you want to continue celebrating with your closest friends, or you just don’t want to deal with the chaos of “where to go next” — in all cases, planning is key.
According to seasoned event planner Keith Willard of Keith Willard Events, “What better way to end an event than to allow the guests to be part of the show?” Think karaoke, silent disco, or a nightclub-inspired féte. Trust us, a wedding after-party is worth the extra planning; and we’ve made it easy with our 5-step guide. After all, it’s the most special night of your life. Why let it end?
1. How to find the right space
photographer: Light Sky Photography
You Can’t Rock Around the Clock if They’re Closed
Many venues have a designated reception cut-off time, but that doesn’t mean your celebration has to end then. The team at Keith Willard Events believes “There should be no scheduled end… just an open-ended timeline based on watching the natural ebb and flow of the crowd.” Ask your venue or hotel if they have separate, smaller spaces with late-night availability so you and your guests can party as long as you want. Willard says that you can even “End it all with a mimosa breakfast where guests naturally head off to bed to sleep off the day.”
Pretend for a minute that you’re Goldilocks trying to select the perfect after-party space. You don’t want a venue that’s too small — there needs to be a comfortable amount of room for dancing. But too big of a space will make the party feel diluted. You get the picture. You’re looking for a space that’s “just right” for your wedding size. We like how this industrial hip space at Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn offered spaciousness with towering ceilings while still making the dance floor feel packed as DJ Martin D’Arcy spun tunes late into the night. Don’t forget, not everyone will make it this far into the night; so be realistic when estimating the numbers of who will stay.
Nothing can transform a room like dazzling lighting. Take this Four Seasons Hotel Chicago after-party, for example. A sea of disco balls hovering over the dance floor from HMR Designs made every late-night guest feel like a dancing queen. And paired with deep-blue uplighting, this design set the tone for an incredible night of dancing and revelry.
Not all after-parties have to be dance-floor focused. The team at Christine Janda Design & Events helped their bride and groom transport guests out of the midwest and into the tropics with a chic, cabana-themed after-party. The poolside rooftop at Chicago’s Devereaux was the perfect spot for the soirée, featuring floating beach balls, swans, and custom neon signage.
It’s late, and your guests have been going all day — but needing a break doesn’t mean they want to leave. Give them somewhere to lounge in style while they restore their energy — before beelining right back to the dance floor when their favorite song comes on. Christina Currie Events, Inc. did just that with a glamorous lounge area at Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, which featured sparkling overhead décor, metallic throw pillows, and modern tufted seating.
While many couples prefer live music at their reception, the after-party is the perfect time to switch it up. Paulette Wolf Events ensured a smooth transition from grand celebration at Lyric Opera Of Chicago to intimate after-hours soirée with décor from Kehoe Designs, early-morning breakfast fare from J&L Catering, and an energizing set from DJ Matt Roan that kept the party going until 5am.
The person who said “you can’t please everyone” had clearly never heard of a silent disco. The concept is the perfect opportunity to allow your diverse crowd of guests — we’re talking parents, college friends, your crazy uncle, and every attendee in between — to listen to the music of their choosing with a selection of headphone stations. In other cases, like if you have an award-winning DJ like KRIEGER, you can offer just one headphone “station” that everyone can tune into en masse. Need a break? Just take the headphones off and enjoy the peace and quiet, like guests did at this Cielo Farms wedding planned by Amber Events. Bonus, you can disregard all of those pesky noise regulations often found in city spots and outdoor gatherings.
When Lupe Fiasco sang “The show goes on all night,” we’re pretty sure he was referring to epic after-party entertainment. We love the idea of making your after-party a production like this Regency Ballroom wedding planned by ROQUE Events. With dramatic staging, a laser light show, and a variety of musical performances — including one from the groom himself — this was truly an unforgettable evening.
When it comes to making sure guests are comfortable and happy (and awake!), Posh Parties knows a thing or two: Like late night guests don’t just want, they need, coffee. Elevating the simple cup of Joe, the team worked with the caterers at the luxurious locale of The Breakers Palm Beach to curate a coffee and tea bar complete with all of the extras. At after-parties, the entertainment might be the engine, but coffee is definitely the fuel.
Sara Renee Events knows the way to a late night party-goer’s heart is with food — fried food to be exact. Sliders, McDonalds’ french fries, and chicken nuggets served with an assortment of sauces — because as we all know, it’s all about the sauce — were passed around this celebration at The Breakers Palm Beach. Even the Quarter Pounders looked elegant on the staff’s smoothly cut wood serving trays with touches of floral garnishes from Always Flowers & Events.
One of our favorite after-party elements is a parting gift. Make a strong last impression with hangover kits and customized wedding merch, or keep it simple with edible favors. The Breakers Palm Beach wedding, planned by Sara Renee Events and designed by The Special Event Resource and Design Group, went for a universally loved treat in curated packages. If you look closely, you can spot a bonus element of personalization on the table.
We love how LuvRox Photography captured a special moment between this couple and their guests at this Sara Renee Events-planned celebration. The bride made a secret outfit change (with a twist) before heading from her reception to the after-party. The after-party’s entrance at The Breakers Palm Beach showcased a blown-up photo of the newlyweds together at their high school prom — and, wait for it, the bride made her entrance in that very prom dress. The groom added silky blue suspenders to match his new wife, as if this wasn’t cute enough already.
Craig Paulson Studio beautifully captured guests posing at this fun floral backdrop that included a nod to England with a bright red phone booth. For those who want immediate gratification, photo booths are a must. We love how Bride and Blossom added gorgeous greenery and pink roses to the photo op, all while keeping it completely unique and personal at New York’s Oheka Castle.
A grand finalé, indeed. ROQUE Events ended this lavish wedding reception with a confetti explosion and balloon drop. We love how the green and white party elements perfectly matched the ongoing celebration palette — not to mention how they make for an incredible last picture at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.
Consider a magic trick. The magician pulls a rabbit out of his hat, while onlookers ooh and ahh over the seemingly impossible feat. The perfect wedding, like the perfect magic trick, requires having a few tricks up the sleeve. Bespoke event planner David Pressman of David Pressman Events sat down with us to share how the right wedding planner can solve six common wedding planning dilemmas. From getting guests to RSVP on time to making sure the bridal party stays on schedule, Pressman shows us how wedding planning can be stress-free — at least for the couple getting married.
Wedding Invitations — The Buck Stops Here
photographer: Laurie Bailey Photography
1) Getting Guests to RSVP
The days of handwritten letters are long behind us. In that light, it’s no surprise that guests sometimes forget to RSVP. As a full-service event planner, Pressman takes on the responsibility of creating a master spreadsheet that lists important guest information. He will individually contact each unaccounted-for guest to fill in any missing information, whether that be a simple “Yes I can attend,” or “Oops, I forgot to add a food allergy to my menu selection.” For Pressman, this isn’t an extra service but an essential way he can help alleviate stress for his clients.
photographer: Jessica Rieke Photography
2) Addressing the Plus One
Consider the scenario: You’ve addressed an invitation to your cousin and only your cousin. A few weeks later, your aunt calls you to ask if your cousin can bring a plus one. This is where an event planner like Pressman steps in. Pressman will ask his clients helpful questions like, “Are they engaged? Do you socialize or have a relationship with them?” If his clients prefer not to budget for an additional guest or invite someone that they don’t have a relationship with, then Pressman will personally decline the guest’s request. Because Pressman is the only point of contact that his clients will need for planning their wedding, his job includes answering any of those tough questions posed by event professionals, friends, or family.
Bridal Gown Shopping — When Everyone Has an Opinion
photographer: Next Exit Photography
3) Keeping the Negativity at Bay
Let’s be honest. Shopping can be stressful. Now imagine you’re standing up on a platform, surrounded by family and friends, trying on what you hope will be the perfect dress for the most important day of your life. Suddenly you hear your mother say, “I’m not sure if that dress suits your arms.” As Pressman reminds us, everyone has their own agenda when it comes to finding the right wedding dress. While a mother might have the best intentions, it’s also likely that she still sees her daughter as a little girl who should or should not wear certain items.
Pressman helps his clients avoid uncomfortable shopping scenarios by offering to take them on a one-on-one shopping trip. This gives the bride an opportunity to try on a variety of dresses and experiment with different styles in a pressure-free (and opinion-free) environment. Pressman is also willing to join the bride at later fittings when other family members or friends might be in attendance. By this point, he will have met his client’s loved ones and feel comfortable diplomatically navigating the situation.

4) Choosing a Trusted Designer
Bodies are like snowflakes; no two are the same. Finding the right dress means finding the right fit and style. When you walk into a store, you want to know that the person attending you is a professional that you can trust. Pressman’s own professional history in the fashion industry perfectly positions him to be helpful and he often takes his clients shopping at stores where he knows and trusts the brands. A representative for Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, or Monique Lhuillier, for example, has a professional career in designer clothing and they want their clients to look their best and will never sell something just to make a sale. A great event planner will also know how to find other required event professionals — be it a florist or caterer. When it comes to planning weddings, Pressman makes sure to narrow down an event professional list that will specifically meet his clients needs.
Hair & Makeup Scheduling — Starting the Day Without a Hitch

5) Wrangling the Bridal Party
For a bride on her wedding day, getting ready with her bridesmaids is a great joy. It’s a chance to drink champagne, share stories, and indulge in a bit of pampering with her best friends. What could possibly go wrong?
While larger bridal parties spare a bride or groom from making the difficult choice of whom to include or exclude from the list, they often require extra attention. Larger bridal parties may need more than one room for hair and makeup preparation. Consequently, bridesmaids or groomsmen may feel hurt if they have to get ready in a different room than the bride or groom. When multiple hair and makeup event professionals are used for larger bridal parties, there’s also a risk that some will want to switch stylists. Pressman knows there’s no time for the bride or groom to deal with these stressors. Again, using his diplomatic skills, Pressman will individually speak to any injured individuals and explain to them that they’re “working backwards from a biblical timeline — down to the minute.” He will even share the schedule with them, reminding them that timing is everything.
photographer: Gloria Mesa Photography
6) Timing is Everything
As Pressman reminds us, bridal parties often don’t realize that event planners are working backward from a timeline. If the ceremony starts at 6 p.m., then photographs might take place at 4 p.m., which means the bridal party needs to be ready to go by 3:30 p.m.
“Imagine scheduling 12 people in two different rooms in hotel or venue,” Pressman says, “and then you get a call the night before and the sister comes up and says I can’t do that time.” While 75-percent of the time, Pressman can rearrange the schedule to make it work, sometimes he has to sit down with the individual and explain the reason why the schedule is set up a certain way. “People often understand things if they have a moment to see the big picture.” Part of being a premier event planner is being a diplomat. For a bride or groom, having a bespoke event planner to navigate the obstacles can make all the difference.
This past year’s parties were a riot of long and winding table arrangements, drapery-defined spaces, alfresco chandeliers, and more. Some of those trends will continue into 2020 (experiential photo ops and pampas grass show no signs of slowing) and will join a host of other exciting innovations that we’re seeing crop up at celebrations. If you’re planning a wedding (or you just like to be in-the-know), you’ll want to cruise through what’s new so you don’t miss out on fun trends like invitation-inspired dance floors and vintage VW vans as décor and entertainment elements.
1. Baby’s Breath Florals Replace Larger Blooms
Oh baby’s breath, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. We love you on tabletops, adorning arches, and in bouquets.
photographer: Jonathan Scott Studio
Cascading Lace-Like Garlands
This Miami wedding vision from Ovando Design and Production features undulating miniature floral centerpieces that flow right off the banquet-style tables, creating a waterfall of tiny baby’s breath blooms at this Forever Events celebration at the Pérez Art Museum.
We love how JOWY Productions and Marks Garden curated this dramatic reception with towering wind-swept rounds of baby’s breath for a whimsical vibe against a string-lit Los Angeles night sky at The Empire Polo Club.
Antonia Flowers gathered tiny blooms en masse for a frilly bouquet that doesn’t distract from the gorgeous gown — or the girl wearing it — at this stunning Amalfi Coast celebration from the team at Wedding Amalfi.
Sonal J. Shah Event Consultants worked with Design House Decor to bring a dream to life with ethereal arches of baby’s breath leading to a floating cloud of florals under which the couple said “I do” at this enchanting New York wedding at The Pierre hotel.
2. Chic Black Accents Break White Wedding Tradition
Black has been the go-to in fashion since Coco Chanel featured the color in her fashion line in the ’20s — the 1920s that is. “I think it’s time to say hello to black accents at celebrations,” says Sara Renee of Sara Renee Events. “Something as simple as a black tapered candle set upon a gold candle holder, or even black flatware is very chic.”
The view at Longshore Pavilion at Norwalk Cove makes for a captivating backdrop — and this stark ebony arch adorned with florals from Sprig and Social serves as the perfect frame for the picturesque scene — as well as the couple’s sweet nuptials.
We were all atwitter over the beauty and increased use of circular arches in 2019 (so much so that we dedicated an entire article to them). Now, as we enter a new decade, a new design has stolen our hearts: creative, unexpected altar shapes.

When a Half Creates a Whole Lot of Beauty
Organic Flora conjured this very new-style floral arch — that’s actually only half of an arch, which makes it fully fascinating, capturing our imaginations and hearts at this celebration at the Klentner Ranch from the Crowned Events Team with inspired rentals from Borrowed Blu and Party Pleasers Event Rental Co.
“You can instantly turn a party into couture status with hand-painted boldly-printed linen. The unique artistry adds dimension and quality like no other,” says Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York, who recently launched a line of luxe printed linen with Nuage Designs. She adds, “A print can instantly bring a blank room to life whether you want to be transported to a tropical paradise or a romantic English garden.”
This Bronx Botanical Garden wedding planned by Guerdy Design evoked a summer vibe with cream and blue botanical print table linens. Design and décor specialist, Adam Leffel Productions, accented the print with gold silverware and fresh florals and wisely chose clear glass chargers, so the design could show through.
This richly printed linen from the recent Nuage Designs x Ceci New York collaboration sets painted blooms against a striking black background. We adore how DeJuan Stroud, Inc. used the print as the backdrop for his divine design with a mix of bright blooms and dark plum accents at this Glasshouse Chelsea celebration.
“We are seeing big color and lots of sensory elements,” says Sarah Drake from Cole Drake Events. “There’s a switch from monochromatic to splashes of fun color.” At PartySlate, we’re seeing this trend expressed in deeply-hued and textured lounge areas at weddings.

All That Glitters is Gold (Chairs)
The timing and décor are perfect for this Gatsby-themed event as we head again into the 20s. We long to lounge in the glamorous spaces created with furniture groupings from Blueprint Studios – Rental at this Samantha Silverman-planned and Mood Events-designed celebration in Pomona, California at The Glasshouse.
We adore how mixing fabrics can make a space feel richer — and this mix of velvet, linen, and fur from the rental pros at Bowery & Bash is positively dreamy. Revel Decor outfitted Chicago’s Chez with luxe touches at this Nouvelle Events stunning wedding.
Oak and linen seating from Standard Party Rentals is the perfect embodiment of rustic California elegance at this Monterey Peninsula Country Club wedding planned by Charmed Events Group. We love how the cream color creates a serene feeling and how the florals from Gavita Flora add organic greenery.
6. Invitation-Inspired Dance Floors Makes for a Cohesive Celebration
“My clients have really been trending toward custom dance floors. Couples are personalizing their receptions with custom designs that match their wedding invites, colors, overall theme, and personality — and dance floors take up such a huge portion of the reception,” says Christine Godsey of CG & Co. Events.
photographer: Jenny Haas
Deco on the Dance Floor
A Charming Fête planned this glam wedding with an eye for golden detail as they married the invitation design from Minted with the custom dance floor design from SHOUT! for a beautifully cohesive celebration at Hyatt Regency Cleveland At The Arcade. Add that spectacular chandelier from Molly Taylor + Co. and we’re enchanted.
This elegant wedding from A Stylish Soirée featured a monogrammed seal — that also served to seal these two lives together. The crest first appeared on invitations, then on a gorgeous, picture-perfect greenery wall, and later in gold on the dance floor at the The Adolphus, Autograph Collection in Dallas.
Nature mixes and matches color with no regard for color wheels or fashion — and it always works. Pop Parties and David Kimmel Design mirrored nature with gorgeous hand-painted florals from the talented Momental Designs — on the invitations and the dance floor, that bloom into real flowers on tables and arched overhead.
At PartySlate, we’re seeing ice utilized at weddings as unique décor, to further a theme, to serve delectable fare and creative cocktails, and much more — designers are getting creative with the flexible form.

Seeing Double
Rooftop spots make for the best city views, and guests were seeing double at this spring Chicago wedding from Jennifer Anderson Events. The planners worked with Kehoe Designs to curate a stunning icy Chicago skyline décor element that doubled as a raw bar. Guests got to see the city’s iconic buildings iced over — minus winter’s frigid temps.
Why use a shaker to cool a cocktail when you can filter it through an ice slide weaving between full-bloom red roses? KIS(cubed) Events and Occasions by Shangri-la conceived this chic installation that acts as interactive art at a gorgeous, richly-hued wedding celebration.
We can’t think of a better way to store flavored shaved cocktail ice than in ice itself. The frozen garnish station at this whimsical wedding at Santa Barbara’s Kestrel Park from Percy Sales Events beautifully suspended limes, lemons, and berries in a fresh display, accented by lavender florals from Coco Rose Design.
8. VW Vans are Driving Vintage Style into Wedding Celebrations
photographer: Tec Petaja
Photo Bug Instead of a Photo Booth
Beaulieu Garden in Northern California provided the perfect shady setting for this fun photo bug at this Jacin Fitzgerald Events-planned wedding with beautiful design by Mindy Rice Design. We love how the marquee sign lets guest know where to get their pic snapped.
This stylish desert wedding in all shades of blue has us feeling anything but. LB Events + Design and Jesi Haack Design curated a décor scheme that included a luxe lounge area in and around the most improbable of places: a blue (of course) VW van — with help from Found Vintage Rentals and A Rental Connection at Wolf. Feather. Honey FARM.
Michelle Durpetti of Michelle Durpetti Events adds, “I am in LOVE with the return of color in weddings. While a classic palette with whites, nudes and a hint of blush will never go wrong, there is something to be said for rich, bold tones creating a unique and beautiful aesthetic.”
photographer: Virgil Bunao
Green & White is Just Right
Gregory Blake Sams Events conjured this very modern plantation wedding in Charleston, South Carolina. We adore how the green and white draped tent plays off the festive, chic pops of pink, including florals from Gathering. Sigh.
Pantone’s Color of the Year Added Coral Style to this Tent
Soirees planned this Atlanta wedding at the beautiful Barnsley Garden. Its rainbow ombré of hues was perfectly executed by Edge Design Group who chose sunny coral draping to extend the colorful palette to the white tent. We love the way the floral slowly merge from hue to hue and how even the bridesmaid’s dresses add to the décor.
Destination weddings don’t have to mean crossing an ocean. Christina Currie of Christina Currie Events says, “We are seeing more and more clients wanting a retreat experience for their wedding guests. They’re enjoying the entire weekend together.” She notes upcoming weddings in popular domestic destination spots Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina and Naples, Florida. Just like Hailey and Justin, we predict more brides and grooms will select these destination wedding spots within the United States in 2020 and beyond — to host a wedding retreat that doesn’t require a passport. Also don’t forget your own backyard as a spot that can be recreated for glamorous effect.
photographer: Donna Von Bruening
Filled With Southern Charm & Hospitality
The beautiful resort at Montage Palmetto Bluff, just outside Savannah, Georgia, is where Hailey and Justin Bieber said “I do” earlier this year, and we love this lush property for weddings any time of year.
Miami’s beaches and breezy climate make it an ideal location for a domestic destination wedding. The Faena Hotel Miami Beach offers 10 unique event spaces, like the Faena Forum shown in this stunning celebration from ANDI Soirees and Xquisite Events.
When you get married in Sonoma, California, good wine is a given. Add a beautiful venue like the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa and you have yourself a memorable celebration. This wedding from Savvy Event is one we won’t soon forget.
Hello weddings, 1970 called and it wants its punchbowl back. “A big trend we’re seeing not only in weddings but all social events is the return of the punchbowl! Taking a deliciously-crafted cocktail out of the single shaker and into a pre-batched bowl is a great way to present your signature cocktail,” says Emily Kraus of Wolfgang Puck Catering — Los Angeles.

Ladle a Little
The skilled caterers at Wolfgang Puck — with teams in Los Angeles, Houston, and Dallas , and more — don’t just excel when it comes to menu preparation, but they’re also bar experts. We love how they beautify and elevate the presentation with custom-designed ice, edible florals, and floating fruit that gives guests a hint at the cocktail’s flavor profile.
To say that weddings, with their bouquets, boutonnieres, and colorful tablescapes are suddenly being inspired by nature, would be laughable. But, we’ll go out on a limb (pun intended) and say that we’re seeing nature incorporated in beautifully organic new ways.

Hundred-Year-Old Tree as Altar for Long-Lasting Couple
This wedding makes our trend list twice — between the chandelier dripping crystals against a tree back backdrop, the vine-like climbing florals, and the color-rich petal-strewn aisle — we can’t decide what we love most about this Edge Design Group vision. The planners at Soirees gave us this gift of a celebration with its organic altar set at Barnsley Garden.
We loved the use of the floral-laded tree in the last example, but this one has us smiling specifically because it’s not integral — it’s beauty for beauty’s sake, a tree off to the side, enhanced as only nature (and Rye Workshop) can. It doesn’t hurt that the wild, yet somehow manicured, terrain at the ever-popular Cedar Lakes Estate in Port Jervis, NY forms the backdrop for this gorgeous wedding perfectly planned by ASE — Amanda Savory Events.
Sigh. South Lake Tahoe, California provided this dreamy setting, and Mother Nature provided the aisle — with a little help from Jenna Lam Events. Its curve, mix of greenery and tall grasses, and how it draws the eye toward the bank of trees in front of which vows will be taken, all are making us swoon.
Home décor trends have long left their impact on events (see vibrant lounge areas above), and here’s a new twist on the tradition: aisles defined by and accented with rugs. Shags, hides, Oriental rugs — they’re all being incorporated into weddings to add color, history and ambience.

Authentic Local Flair
This Jackson, Wyoming-set wedding looks exactly as if it took place in Jackson, Wyoming. We adore how Lovely Day Events has kept it real by using authentic elements that combine seamlessly, and beautifully, with the wild west landscape at Antelope Trails Ranch. A mix of hides and southwestern rugs forms a unique, perfect aisle leading to a rustic altar with florals from Lily and Company.
Stripes, solids, a pyramid, and the brilliant blue sky above — this wedding has it all, courtesy of the visionary planners at Pink Monkey Solutions. There’s much to admire at this clear-tented ceremony from Pineapple Productions, including the trio of mixed rugs leading to a unique nuptial spot at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort & Spa.
Grand Velas in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, served as both the setting and the planner for these beach-set nuptials. In a nod to the natural setting, woven grass rugs were overlapped to form an organic aisle leading to the white-draped arch and the blue sea beyond.
Anyone who’s been annoyed by their favorite show buffering knows the frustration of waiting. Savvy photographers have started providing a handful of professional, Instagram-ready images on the day of the wedding so that couples can post perfectly-lit and framed images rather than those bleary, iPhone snaps their guests caught. Rejoice the instant gratification!
Mid-century Modern designs popular in the 1930s-1950s ushered in simple, chic lines and clean, integrated spaces. The style has long been enjoying a renaissance and now its made its way into weddings.

Single-Stemmed Style
Overflowing florals that trail to the ground, monochrome arrangements of a single color or flower type — bouquets have evolved from the tight, round arrangement of years past. Now we’re seeing a single statement bloom at modern ceremonies, like this beauty from Carlos Rivas Design & Production at a wedding that took place at one of our favorite spots, New York’s 620 Loft & Garden, and was planned to perfection by NYLUX Events.
OUE Skyspace in Los Angeles provides a beautiful tabula rosa — the perfect chic all-white canvas for inspired design. We love how J Flowered opted to keep the space clean and minimal with brass and glass tables that mimic the bright windows that flood the space with light (plus, the venue boasts a sky slide!).
NeueHouse, Hollywood never disappoints with their myriad of chic spaces, but we especially love the views from this spot. Fawn Events planned this sunny soirée with a modern design from Best Day Ever Floral Design that included on-trend pampas grass and always-in-style ghost chairs and a spectacularly unique altar.
You might think that magic and matrimony don’t go together — but, you’d be wrong. We love the clever new ways that event designers are conjuring scenes that captivate — and confuse.

Levitating Layers
A cake and a view too! The tiers of this cake appear to float, with acrylic supports that allow the sunset to become part of its design. We love how The picture-perfect scene is completed by florals and candlelight from Three Petals Design at this Pure Lavish-planned celebration.
We’ve looked at this a lot — a lot — and we’re still not sure if it’s a square white vase painted with a more intricate vase or a picture frame pretending to be a vase overflowing with florals. Whatever the case, we can’t look away from the Gro Designs creation at this Houston soirée.
This bride looks as if she’s walking on water as she strolled her shimmering aisle, courtesy of Revelry Event Designers. The Coachella wedding conjured a dreamy mirage in the desert from the skilled planners at Sacks Productions.
17. Place Cards that Take Personalization to the Next Level
We love how clever place card displays have become — with some, like candles hand-painted with guests’ names adding an additional décor element and others like local honey with a name-emblazoned label directing guests to their seats. Now, we’re seeing place cards that give insight into a couple’s relationship, further bringing their friends and family into their world.
photographer: James x Schulze
Guests Reveal a Secret Instagram
This sweet travel-loving couple started a private Instagram with exactly two followers to share and document their life together. On their wedding day, they gave their friends and family a glimpse of the ‘gram under each place card — eventually revealing a grid of colorful images at their luxe Marcy Blum Associates-planned celebration.
Evoke Design & Creative in Washington, D.C. curated this highly-personalized wedding that included a cheeky escort wall sporting painted images of the happy couple in a nod to their shared history — up to and including their most recent moment of getting married.
18. Surprises that Delight Guests — and Sometimes even the Couple
Teresa Blumberg of Miami-based Blumberg Events says, “I am not even sure if this is a trend — and maybe it’s better that way! — but I have decided that if you’re able to add “surprises” to the celebration, it really elevates the experience for the guests. This is true especially if you have the ability to do this in a wedding setting.” We think it is a trend, Teresa, and we love it! She offers real-life examples like having an opera or Grammy-nominated singer perform and ending a celebration with fabulous costumed cirque performers.
photographer: Red Sphere Studios
Two Surprises at One Sweet Wedding
Guerdy Design planned a meaningful evening for this couple whose wedding planning was disrupted by Mother Nature, in the form of Hurricane Irma. After their “I dos” The groom serenaded his surprised bride with “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran — then she turned around and surprised him (and the rest of the guests) with her performance alongside two Brazilian Samba dancers. It made their special day even more special.
Jodi Cohen of JOWY Productions has pulled off her fair share of perfect moments for her client couples and shared this event in which, the bride mentioned that she wanted fireworks but never thought of it again until Cohen pulled it off as a “HUGE surprise” at the wedding. The bride was overjoyed (as you can see).
“Surprises of all kinds are really fun to incorporate,” says Michelle Durpetti of Michelle Durpetti Events. She says of her own Birch Design Studio-planned wedding, “We worked with the team at The Breakers Palm Beach to create a really one of a kind intro for my husband and I based on my love of champagne and sparklers!” Friends and family were de-“lighted” by the spectacle.
19. Take-Home Treats that Satisfy Morning-After Cravings
Sure we like a good party favor — a sweet little gift that serves as a gesture and a memory-keeper. But, our tummies appreciate being thought of too. We love how thoughtful couples are sending guests home with next morning — or, who are we kidding, in-the-car — treats.
photographer: Peter Wynn Thompson Photography
New York-Style Bagels in Chicago
Joyce Pollakoff Events tells us that they have recently featured a to-go bagel bar as a thoughtful touch at Chicago celebrations. “Each guest got a box with the couple’s name and custom logo to go from the bagel store setup along a choice of fresh cream cheeses packed up,” says Pollakoff. Morgan Manufacturing served as the perfect spot for this particular wedding featuring modern lines, touches of blue, and a gracious sendoff.
Amazae Events brings us this vibrant wedding that took place in Pleasanton, California that hosted a very of-the-moment Boba Tea Bar in handy to-go to the delight of guests. Each cup featured a cartoon of the happy couple that matched the figurings adorning the wedding cake — giving the affair a lighthearted vibe.
We love how a live band can energize a room and how a skilled DJ can fill a dance floor. Modern couples have also begun adding additional creative entertainment to their celebrations. The trend is so strong that we’ve given it its own feature article — but we’re highlighting a few favorites here.

Coffee Shops are Popular for a Reason
Guests got to indulge in unique coffeehouse offerings from Culinary Eye Catering & Events with a lattes and treats station that also showed such artistry and style that it qualifies as entertainment. The on-hand barista also added a lovely olfactory element to the Deer Park Villa in California at the Alex Barranco-planned wedding.
Kat Creech Events planned this Houston wedding to include creative entertainment, delighting guests with aerialists and even a red-carpet ready Joan Rivers look-alike from the full-service team at J & D Entertainment. Ballroom at Bayou provided the perfect towering ceilings for Cirque du Soleil-style acrobats who poured champagne —while suspended in mid-air.
As the founder of The Bridal Bar, Harmony Walton knows how to connect couples with the right creative professionals. So when it came to creating her own dream wedding at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, planned by Marcy Blum Associates, she had more than a few ideas on how to make it a sensational and personal event for everyone involved — like an escort wall that uncovered stories from the couple’s secret Instagram account and printed cocktail napkins that turned the groom’s name into a word in the dictionary.
Most of all, Harmony wanted to make the wedding a meaningful and inclusive event for her father who had recently become deaf and physically disabled. Here, she shares tips on how to accommodate guests with disabilities so that they can comfortably participate in any celebration — including dreamy destination weddings like hers.
ACCESSIBLE ACCOMMODATIONS
1. Be Selective in Choosing Your Venue
“Location is everything,” as the saying goes. When it comes to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for your guests, finding the right venue is of paramount importance. When researching possible venue locations, Harmony advises couples to consider the layout of the property. Hotels and resorts are more likely to have ADA accessible ceremony and reception sites than reception venues, trendy barns, or gardens. Harmony also suggests researching whether the property has a transportation infrastructure, such as golf carts, that will make it easier for guests with physical disabilities to traverse the grounds.
It’s equally essential to consider the service level of the property. Because Harmony’s father was more recently disabled, she was still learning the “right” questions to ask the venue. The Four Seasons, however, made sure to inquire about her father’s specific needs and provide appropriate accommodations. Harmony says “it’s the small attention to detail that you don’t know you need until you need it” that distinguishes the Four Seasons as a luxury hotel.
2. Inquire About Assistive Technology
Assistive technology can make all the difference for a guest with a disability. Harmony’s father is deaf and therefore unable to make or answer telephone calls. When Mr. Walton arrived at the hotel, he was given a phone number that he could text if he needed anything during his stay. Because he arrived early at the hotel, staff also offered to text Mr. Walton when his room was finished being prepared.
The Four Seasons also provided Mr. Walton with a door knock signaler for his hotel room. The visual alert system used a light display to alert him when a housekeeper or family member was knocking on the door. This doorbell system allowed Mr. Walton to keep his door closed and maintain his privacy.
The Four Seasons even provided Mr. Walton with a way to respond to any communications that came in while he slept. A vibrating insert for his mattress cover alerted him when he received a text message or a knock on his hotel room door. This insert could be turned on or off at his preference.
STAFF ASSISTANCE
3. Educate Staff
This was Mr. Walton’s first time traveling since his return from the hospital a year and a half ago. Because his hearing loss and limited mobility were new experiences for him, he didn’t always know the right questions to ask the hotel staff. This is where a skilled staff can make a huge difference at your celebration. The entire staff at the Four Seasons, from waiters to the front desk, knew Mr. Walton’s name and circumstances. Staff members were instructed to stand face-to-face with Mr. Walton so he would be able to lip read. Harmony says that the biggest thing a property can do is “say yes and anticipate needs no matter how minor.” The more training that the staff receives, the more they are able to provide quality service to your guests.
4. Empower Your Guest
If anyone has a lot to do before and during the wedding celebration, it’s the bride. Mr. Walton wanted Harmony to enjoy her celebration without worrying about his care. One of the best ways you can accommodate guests with disabilities is to help them feel independent at an event. The staff at the Four Seasons let Mr. Walton know that he could communicate directly with them for any additional support.
Mr. Walton needs to eat frequently and drink plenty of fluids in order to avoid feeling faint. When he informed the hotel that there was no minibar in his hotel room, the staff immediately put in a request for a nightly standing-room-service order. As a result, Mr. Walton was able to get the help he needed without asking his daughter to intervene. “Now I know I can travel,” Mr. Walton told his daughter at the end of his stay.
GUEST INCLUSION
5. Provide Physical Access to the Venue
The Four Seasons offered to provide Mr. Walton with a wheelchair. In the end, Mr. Walton decided that he would be happiest using his walker. The Four Seasons put his room close to the lobby so he would be able to easily access the rest of the property. Harmony said the hotel’s effort to make him comfortable brought her to tears.
Instead of having her ceremony on a vast lawn, Harmony chose an intimate space overlooking the ocean. Her father walked her down the short aisle to two giant plumeria trees which created a gorgeous natural alter. After the ceremony at Plumeria Point, staff members offered to escort Mr. Walton to the reception. They helped him navigate through the wet areas around the pool and then took an alternative route to the reception where a “Pick Your Pineapple” favor bar and his-and-hers cocktail bars awaited guests. This extra assistance ensured Mr. Walton didn’t miss a moment of his daughter’s big day.
6. Ensure Guests Can Actively Participate in the Celebration
One of the most cherished parts of any wedding celebration is getting to share the day with friends and family. In an effort to distinguish and celebrate their guests, Harmony and her partner Bayo left handwritten thank-you notes under each dinner menu and gave each guest a dinner napkin embroidered with his or her name. We especially love how Steven Boyle Design decorated Mr. Walton’s walker with greenery to match the bride’s lush oversized bouquet, thereby distinguishing him as a guest of honor.
For Harmony, it was important that her father fully experience his important role as father-of-the-bride. She asked her father to select a song for their father-daughter dance. He chose “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. As they danced, Harmony mouthed the words to her father so he could experience the beat of the song from start to finish. Videographer Elysium Productions captured the beautiful moment on film as guests looked on with tears and smiles.
The wedding was beautiful, personal, inclusive — and memorable for all.
Since the writing of this feature, Mr. Walton has passed away in the presence of family and loved ones. In moments of grief, memories of special moments at weddings and other celebrations — like those Harmony created with her father — are all the more special to have.

Design House Decor
photographer: Clane Gessel Photography
For bold & daring designs that make a statement…
This technicolored rooftop wedding from Sonal J. Shah Event Consultants redefined the rainbow and ombré trends. To conjure this creative vision, Design House Decor perfectly coordinated thousands of roses — both at the outdoor ceremony and indoor reception — to create a kaleidoscope of eye-catching color at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City. This stunning floral design was carried over into the tablescapes and beyond. What we love about Design House Decor:
Extravagant large-scale floral installations
Unique use of lighting — chandeliers, candles, etc. — to further elevate designs
This twinkling votive-filled ceremony backdrop from the skilled designers at Elegant Affairs was framed with lush greenery wrapped in lights, casting an irresistible sparkle across this Arlington wedding planned by Rb Event Design. Organic installations and greenery were effortlessly paired with glamorous elements throughout the event, including the tree branch-inspired mandap surrounded by vibrant yellow rose petals. What we love about Elegant Affairs:
Designs based in nature and organically inspired
Beautiful events on both a small and large scale — from subtle, all white palettes to extravagant multicolored designs
Masterful mixing of florals, lighting, metals, glass and other elements
Ovando Design and Production takes an artistic approach to event design. We love how the vibrant floral installation at this jewel-toned Southeast Asian wedding appears almost painted across the ceremony’s backdrop, with gentle and elegant swoops and turns. Premini Events planned the celebration, which married the luxe ceremony design into the reception’s design. What we love about Ovando:
Never-before-seen event designs all with a whimsical touch
Creative celebrations that tell a story and offer a unique experience to their guests
