Many elements make an event memorable — from a stunning entrance to a thoughtful parting gift. But we believe that great party entertainment will help guests remember how they felt at an event. Were they dancing until their feet hurt or cracking up with each other over their photo booth antics?
Thoughtful party entertainment not only enlivens a celebration but engages guests in the merry-making. When it comes to choosing how to surprise and delight your guests, the options are truly endless. But we’re going to get you started with nine of our favorite party entertainment ideas.
Click on the button following each idea to find that type of entertainment near you. Or select the name of the company being profiled to view photos of real events at which they’ve performed and to reach out directly to them.

If you’re still stumped, might we suggest a venue that offers built-in entertainment? For example, here in Chicago, there’s an event space that is an active glass studio and you can arrange for demonstrations at events. Several museums offer scavenger hunts for groups of guests, meaning you have a lovely spot to entertain surrounded by beautiful art, and an activity as well.
All over the country, there are spots that feature ping pong tables, escape rooms, karaoke, bocci, bowling, and so much more. In fact, PartySlate’s “Find a Venue” page features a filter for “venues with activities” (as well as tons of other filters to help you narrow in on the perfect spot).
As the fourth largest city in the United States, Houston is the backdrop for many spectacular weddings, galas, and corporate events. To showcase the incredible work of talented Black-owned wedding and event companies in this dynamic city, we teamed up with premier event planner Doyin Fash of Doyin Fash Events. In addition to recommending many premier event professionals in the Houston area, she shared how important it is to curate lists like these.
As Fash explains, “While acquiring a list of event professionals is a relatively simple task,” it’s far more difficult to determine the diversity of local vendors. She goes on to say, “One would need to sift through a long list of event businesses in order to find those who state they are Black, and not all list that. Therefore, this list of Black event professionals is priceless.”
Fash continues, “There are individuals or businesses who feel a Black event professional is the most qualified to bring elements of Black culture to life in their events. From the customs within the ceremony to the food and entertainment following the vows, a Black event professional is simply more familiar with Black culture in Black weddings and also brings a new or differing perspective to other events as well.”
Lastly, “Not everyone can afford to take the time to seek out a Black event professional,” Fash acknowledges. “However, this brings home the point of why compiling a list of Black event professionals is so vital.”
Keep reading to discover some of the incredible Black-owned wedding and event companies on PartySlate for your one-of-a-kind celebration — be it a wedding, social celebration, or corporate event. Moreover, make sure to click on the “contact” button to reach out directly for further information.
For Fash, elevating the work of other talented Black-owned event companies is part of her business practices. “First, when I am making a referral,” Fash shares, “My preferred vendor list has many black professionals on it. When individuals or businesses ask for vendor referral, the first people I reach out to are the talented Black professionals in Houston. There have been numerous times where I referred clients to other Black event planners when I was unable to handle their event due to schedule conflict or when their budget didn’t align with my services.”

South Florida is home to many talented Black-owned wedding and event companies that can bring your dream celebration to life. To showcase the stunning work of these party vendors, PartySlate reached out to KeAira Chantell Gamble of KeAira Chantell Events and Natalie Thames of Déjà vu Sweets for help creating a list of Black event professionals in the South Florida region as a resource for party hosts and consumers.
Natalie shares how important it is “to provide a spotlight on the many talented Black event professionals across South Florida. Whether it’s a boudoir session, wedding production, or a cake to enjoy with loved ones — we have the talent, beauty, and creativity to fit your needs.”
KeAira adds, “The wedding and events industry, just like many industries, isn’t as diverse and inclusive as it should be, especially when you consider its consumers. Black people spend a lot of money and set a lot of trends in this industry. Therefore, the Black event professionals who play pivotal roles in executing these events deserve to be recognized.”
She goes on to add, “Although there have been pledges and efforts made the past year to spotlight Black talent, creating permanent spaces and lists will help prove that those weren’t just performative acts for a short period of time.”
Both KeAira Chantell Events and Déjà vu Sweets continue to elevate the work of other talented Black event professionals in the industry every day.
“I believe the best way to elevate the work of other Black event professionals,” KeAira shares, “is by providing them with opportunities to showcase their talent. I am intentional about collaborating with Black creative partners on my events as well as referring Black event professionals for projects.”
“Truly to sum it up,” Natalie adds, “provide Black event vendors the opportunity to showcase their talent.”

It’s finally here: summer 2021. After a year of being apart, we’re ready to gather in a big way. And that means cool cocktails to toast, creative fare to dish over, chic décor to ooh and aah at, and hot music to dance to — all held together by an over-the-top, unique party theme.
Don’t worry, we’ve got 15 summer party themes that will wow your guests, along with inspirational boards and links to more photos to get you started.
Pack your bags — you’re island-bound. Make like you’re in the tropics, and sip a cocktail served from a hollowed-out coconut or pineapple under the sway of palms — and imagine the soothing sound of the waves. We’ve got all of the tropical summer party theme inspiration you’ll need to transport your guests.
Add a little Latin flair to your stateside celebration with vivid colors, samba sounds, and margaritas — all the margaritas. Serve classic favorites like fresh guacamole and roasted chicken in a rich mole sauce before finishing the evening with tres leches cake or flan.Viva la vida loca and gather fiesta inspiration on PartySlate.
There’s nothing more romantic than a tented summer night. Not the kind of tent that has you huddled listening for bears, but the kind of lit-from-within tented soirée that has you dancing and toasting — to your own good fortune. Add some luxe lounge areas and dreamy lighting for a elegant celebration that your guests will remember as the temperature drops.
Swing your partner ‘round and ‘round — right on past the colorful hand-picked wildflowers and cozy lounge areas in the great outdoors, on over to the whiskey tasting bar. Don’t forget lanterns and campfire to light your chic rustic gathering; make that fire work do double duty as your dessert prep station for some delectable s’mores.
Fox-Uncle-Nan: use your signal flags to let your guests know it’s time to have some nautical F-U-N. Ropes aren’t just for anchoring to a dock; they also make for stylish décor, along with colorful oars and boat-style lanterns. Keep your party afloat with classic cocktails like Moscow Mules served in copper mugs or some Dark n’ Stormy’s.
Hot pink décor pairs with fun flamingo details for a summer party theme your guests will love. Keep it flamingo-friendly with pink lemonade and grapefruit cocktails, fuchsia linen, dreamy bubblegum-pink balloons, and custom themed cupcakes. Find a planner and décor team for your perfect “Flamingle” on PartySlate.
This is the elegant beach party you’ve always wanted to attend. It’s Charleston-chic paired with luxe Hamptons-style, sporting an elevated island vibe for a dreamy dinner that’ll have you toasting coconut cocktails. Light your coastal celebration with unique Edison torches or string lights and seat guests with natural oyster or leaf place cards.
Nature has gifted us will all of the color and flavor we need for a fabulous fête. Citrus, with its sunrise hues, offers the bright promise of a wonderful new day — and party. Wow your guests with lemon and lime-infused sips and greenery décor accented by fresh oranges and pink grapefruit. Then give them a tart send-off with lemon-merengue pie or citrus macarons.
What says summer more than “camp”? Swap out the musty cabins and mosquitos for cozy personal tents, elegant wood serving trays, canoes floating florals, and ice-cold cocktails in metal mugs. Add a few lanterns, hammocks, and an outdoor movie showing of a classic like “Moonrise Kingdom” or “Indian Summer,” and your guests will never want to leave.
Summer nights were meant to be spent lakeside — but make it luxe. Combine lighting to dreamy effect: glittering string lights, rattan lanterns swaying in the breeze, and too many candles to count. Don’t forget summer-fresh fare and cocktails bright with citrus (and coordinated oar stirrers, of course).
Rosé is a party in a bottle. Run with that fancy-yet-boozy theme with pastel lawn games, chic pink spots for lounging, and petite desserts that can either be eaten with a pinky delicately raised or tossed back in a single gulp (depending on how many rosés you’ve had). Gather blush inspiration for your summer party theme on PartySlate.
It doesn’t need to be July 4th to celebrate summer in patriotic style. Red is a campfire on a warm summer night, white are those gooey marshmallows you’re about to toast, and blue is that cloudless summer sky. Make it an elegant affair with china filled with berries, or make it a backyard BBQ with eats from your favorite caterer.
To bib or not to bib, that is the question. One thing is for sure, a seafood-themed party makes for delicious fare, and a crackin’ good time. Host a lobster boil or a crab roast; and gather salty summer sea inspiration like lemons as place cards, bouys as décor, and camper trailers as luxe bars.
This isn’t your average pool party — think luxe cabanas, craft cocktails galore, and floating colorful florals. Infuse your glamorous gathering with lots of gold details and consider unique entertainment ideas like synchronized swimmers to ensure that your guests have a swimmingly good time.
Hot sand plus cool cocktails equal a stylish desert bash that’ll have your guests thinking the whole glam thing is a chic mirage. Channel the vivid colors of Morocco with overlapping carpets, swanky lanterns, and exotic fare. Gather modern arid inspiration from brass décor and strings entertainment.
After looking at thousands of images from the most creative events in the world, we’ve realized a universal truth: A meaningful and fun party theme can be built around anything you love, from your favorite food or music to your most beloved store or locale.
Find everything you need on PartySlate to bring your dream party into reality, from top event planners and caterers to the perfect venue for your summer soirée.

On the first day of Pride Month, PartySlate was proud to host 3 LGBTQ+ leaders for an important conversation on how they are advocating for change and inclusivity in the event industry. PartySlate Founder and CEO Julie Roth Novack sat down with the experts to discuss actionable steps you can take to be authentically inclusive and grow your business to better serve the LGBTQ+ community. Panelists included:
When planning his own wedding, Simmons faced roadblocks with non-inclusive wedding vendors. Simmons asked himself, “Why am I having all of this pushback just because of who I love?”. This question led him to create NGWA, an association committed to creating inclusive awareness for wedding professionals through supporting partnerships, continuing education, and being an active advocate for LGBTQ+ couples.
Palladino discussed a similar experience when she also found it difficult to find LGBTQ+ inclusive wedding vendors. Palladino said she sought out to create a solution that would “open minds and hearts through education and empathy.” Equally Wed is an international online LGBTQ+ wedding magazine, book, and education resource for LGBTQ+ couples and LGBTQ+ inclusive wedding professionals. Equally Wed gives the LGBTQ+ community more wedding professionals to choose from “who will not just tolerate the LGBTQ+ community, but celebrate them.”
Are you looking for more ways to educate yourself and support the LGBTQ+ community? You can:
Attend NGWA’s upcoming “Share-the-Love” Inclusive Awareness Conference, a place to connect with like-minded LGBTQ+ wedding professionals for support, education, and advocacy. This conference has virtual or live in-person ticket options and will take place on January 4-6, 2022 in Indian Wells, California.
Get certified with Equally Wed Pro, a certification course that provides wedding and event professionals with actionable steps for understanding how to best serve the LGBTQ+ community, build an LGBTQ+ client base, and network with LGBTQ+ inclusive creatives. This innovative graduation party made the best of a not-so-great situation: celebrating a milestone during COVID. We love how this stunning entrance welcomed family members to a chic dinner, but also acted as a backdrop for a drive-by celebration for classmates, friends and family, complete with party favors and a yearbook signing.
We adore how the carnival theme is present everywhere from the food (caramel-dipped apples, anyone?) to the signage and photo spots. Don’t miss the custom dance floor and lounge areas that gave guests perfect spots to be active or chill.

6. Old-Hollywood for New Grads
Camp Hill, PN
What better place to hold a vintage, old-Hollywood soirée than at an antique auto museum. It’s a great way to celebrate new beginnings.
This poolside party’s décor was color-themed, celebrating future attendance at the University of Pennsylvania. We love college colors as graduation party inspiration.
Blue fringe made a stunning statement at this Georgetown University-inspired celebration. College flags outfitted the bar, and guests enjoy chic navy blue lounge areas to rest from dancing all night.
This orange and blue-hued party prepped the “Fighting Illini” for game time — and graduation. We appreciate how even the florals and the personal touches like custom napkins completed the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign theming.
This graduation party celebrated a trio of achievers with bright colors and customizations galore. From the towering balloon signage to the custom bar, every detail reminded guests of who they were there to celebrate.
It doesn’t get more personalized that having your face emblazoned on a chic photo spot or on clever cookies. We love how this surprise graduation party made it all about the graduate.
Guests at this red and pink party snacked on sugary treats like cotton candy, smoothies, and mini pancakes. We love how the lips and hearts theming extended even to the buffet décor.
We are wowed by the attention to personalized detail that extends even to the food being served. See the amazing appetizers that are shaped as Minnesota and California, representing the graduate’s home state and future home.
It’s not easy to extend blue-and-orange Illinois theming to the fare, but this graduation party managed to do it with style. Think cakes, straws, cocktails, salads and more in the vibrant duo of colors.

16. Fresh Fare
Mechanicsburg, PN
Delectable graduation party food ideas abound at this gathering — from the farmer’s fruit market to the pizza station (with a brick pizza oven, of course). We adore a party with choices — don’t miss the dessert buffet at this party for more presentation ideas.
We adore how this graduation party used luxe touches of rose-gold combined with an array of pink-hued florals and greenery. Tall vases were strategically places between settings so as not to interrupt fun across-the-table conversations.
Modern art and a “colorful personality” inspired this vivid graduation party. The gathering included richly-hued décor from the florals to the linen and also treated guests to another visual treat in the form of a private showing of the celebrant’s favorite art exhibit.
We adore how each layer of this graduation dinner party setting is more beautiful than the next. Unique octagonal menus are perfectly placed with red and pink accents that pick up the silk napkin hues.
When it comes to memorable party décor, one of all-time favorite ideas is to choose a single hue and go all in. We adore how this graduation party featured all-white elements, from flowy draping and paper lanterns, to chic hang-out spots, and even giant white letters on the yard spelling out the graduate’s name (and making for a fun photo op).
This garden party makes us swoon with luxurious pink details from pool décor to paper pink florals and pillows decking out (see what we did there?) a chic cabana. Don’t miss how even the food carried on the pink theming.
Trapeze artists suspended upside down, performers on stilts, jugglers, midway games, rides, fireworks, and more — this party took guests to the fair without leaving the host’s backyard.
This clever celebration personalized the party for all guests with a caricature artist on hand to draw friends and family. Guests then posted their signed images to a board for everyone to enjoy.
A custom dance floor is a great first “step” to hosting a memorable party. This graduation party’s entertainment also included confetti cannons, mascot characters, Skeeball, arcade hoops, and more to keep the kids busy and happy.
When it comes to graduation party entertainment and activities, this gathering had it all. From blender bikes (that allowed guests the novelty of blending their own drinks through aerobic activity) and an ice luge to a live musician and a DJ, this fun party kept guests engaged and delighted all night.
When it comes to graduation cake ideas, it makes good sense to lean into the favorite food of the graduate. But we love how this cake also coordinated with the chic black-and-white color palette of the party.
All we need is this cool, creative cake to get to know this fun-loving grad who loves baking, her pup, and more. Graduation cake ideas don’t get more personalized than this.
We love how this party works with an unusual color scheme inspired by Dr. Seuss’ “Oh the Places You’ll Go” book. The cake cleverly continues palette and theme.

Custom college-themed cookies and printed travel coffee mugs made for the perfect take-away party favor for friends and family of this college-bound grad.
This social-distanced celebration rocked a clever theme (Straight Outta Quarantine) and gave guests a drive-up photo op as well as a box of fun gifts to take home that included a disposable camera, a mug emblazoned with “Let the Adventure Begin,” cookies, chocolate, and an inspirational book.
A graduation party often hosts guests of all ages — including the graduate’s friends as well a multiple generations of family. As such, it’s a good idea to offer a variety of activities. Consider DJ, live band, a cooking demonstration, illusionists or other performance acts.
A photo booth seems to unite guests as well as create fun interactions as well as lots of pictures to remember the party by. Use PartySlate to find creative entertainment ideas that will appeal to all guests.
