New year, new events. We’re officially one month into 2021 — and it’s been jam packed already. January brought us a new Bachelor(hello, Matt James); it brought Tom Brady to his 10th Super Bowl (🐐); it brought us our first ever woman and Black Vice President. We have a lot to celebrate.
So it makes sense that January brought us an influx of incredible new events. Below you’ll find 10 of the most popular parties added to PartySlate in January of 2021. From social-distanced Bar Mitzvahs (because a coming of age doesn’t wait), to micro weddings, scaled-down birthdays, and more, we are happy to see that people are still finding ways to celebrate — together.

Neon party ideas take traditional event lighting to the next level. Think about it: Everything looks better with the right lighting. Whether you are attending a wedding, Bar or Bat Mitzvah party, or corporate event — lighting décor sets the mood.
While guests are used to glittering chandeliers and plenty of candlelight, lighting is finding new and more creative ways to shine. Imagine everything from LED dance floors and glow-in-the-dark instruments to neon catering trays and uplit floral décor.
It’s true: Glow-themed parties are taking over every type of celebration. And we mean every type of celebration. After all, adults (as well as kids) will love neon-themed parties. Even luxe wedding celebrations can benefit from neon décor and entertainment.
It’s true: Glow-themed parties are taking over every type of celebration.
These neon party ideas promise to transform your event into a wonderland of light and color. From LED lounge seating to glow-in-the-dark place settings, we’ve found all the fun ways to illuminate your next celebration.
That’s not all. PartySlate can connect you with lighting designers and a talented A/V team to bring your favorite glow-in-the-dark party ideas to life. Make sure to check out our curated directory to find lighting designers, party planners, photographers, and more.
But first, enjoy our favorite neon party ideas for an epic glow party.
Event planner Duke + Van Deusen, along with Ovando Design and Production, brought modern elegance to this outdoor wedding at Parrish Art Museum with wow-worthy glow-in-the-dark elements. Long after sunset, the wedding reception was brilliantly illuminated with glow-in-the-dark instruments and a stunning ceiling installation.
This colorful gala wowed guests with fan-shaped laser lights and rainbow-hued uplighting. Had it not been for the delicious sit-down dinner by Joy Wallace Catering (did someone say miniature baked Alaska?), we may have spent the entire evening looking skyward.
Why settle on one color when you can have them all? The top-notch planners at Leslie Mastin Events with the design team at Jes Gordon kept Bar Mitzvah guests mesmerized with an ever-changing lighting display. A unique ceiling installation of colorful orbs interwoven with neon lighting drew friends and family to the dance floor all night long.
Everything about this Bar Mitzvah, from the neon signage to a giant bumper ball, captured our imaginations. Anthony Taccetta Event Design kept us sitting pretty with neon plating and seating. The lavish centerpieces and rings of candlelight had us lingering long after dessert.
With so many incandescent elements at this glow-in-the-dark pop-up party, planned and designed by LUXE Creative, it was hard to pick a favorite. From an indoor firework display to jewel-toned uplighting, every detail of this event was a brilliant flash of illumination. We especially love the futuristic centerpieces with orbiting neon rings. Talk about galactic grandeur.

Guests at this neon-themed Bar Mitzvah, planned by Alison Ross Events, were immersed in “glow” from the moment they walked through the door. Kehoe Designs and BlackOak Technical Productions teamed up to create radiant décor at every turn, such as the neon-tube ceiling installation and its reflection on the black-lacquered dance floor. Most of all, we love the illuminated tablescapes with LED lighting and glittering gold votives.
This TRON-themed Bar Mitzvah, planned by Alison Ross Events, has us wheeling through cyberspace. With royal-blue uplighting and midnight-black tables trimmed in neon-green lighting, the décor was straight out of science fiction. We especially love the glow-in-the-dark dinner plates and reflective lucite seating.
This basketball-themed Bar Mitzvah celebration, planned by JOWY Productions, has us rushing for a seat at the table. Dark linens by La Tavola Fine Linen popped against the glass tabletop, while an illuminated base drew all eyes to the floral décor. Catering by Wolfgang Puck Catering – Los Angeles kept us happily seated, while furnishing by Blueprint Studios had us relaxing in comfort.
Guests followed Alice down the rabbit hole and into a surreal and magical Wonderland at this neon-themed Bat Mitzvah party. With LED lounge furniture and tablescapes by CERF, this venue space was easily mistaken for an otherworldly dreamscape. Make sure to see the neon “Drink Me” potions, another of our favorite on-theme elements from this neon party.

Evoke Design & Creative planned an unforgettable Bar Mitzvah with a glowing Rubik’s Cube-like dance floor, while Total Entertainment kept the dance party going with engaging entertainment. Frost DC set the scene aglow with brilliant uplighting in every color of the rainbow. Even the tabletops glowed with glitter centerpieces.
Creative Touch Party Design made this 16-year-old’s birthday dreams come true with a neon-geometric dance floor and cascading neon-balloon installation. Guests enjoyed blowing iridescent bubbles with glow-in-the dark bubble guns and sipping on beverages with glow-in-the-dark straws.

This spectacular gala, deserves another mention. We are mesmerized by this LED dance floor that evokes a traditional infinity mirror. With a colorful dance floor like this, you can guarantee your guests will never want to go home.
JOWY Productions raised the bar (the neon bar, that is) at this neon-themed Bar Mitzvah at the beautiful and transformable Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. From neon foosball to starlit linens by La Tavola Fine Linen, this celebration was lit to the nines. We especially adore the striped dance floor leading straight up to the stage.
What makes a black-lacquer dance floor even better? How about a criss-crossing pattern of neon stripes? Alison Ross Events drew all eyes to the dance floor with these kaleidoscopic colors. We also love the stage backdrop featuring the B’Nai Mitzvah kids. Other details, such as black-light candles and 10-feet tall centerpieces, also had us swooning.
Celebrants at this graffiti-themed Bar Mitzvah showed off their dance moves on a private, up-lit stage. Event planner Partie Girl/Tracie Simkin created a memorable event filled with vibrant illumination. Glowing cocktail tables, fluorescent graffiti-paint, and spectacular uplighting wowed us at every turn. We especially love the banquet table covered in neon graffiti.
A party is the perfect excuse to put on that brand new outfit. This 30th-anniversary party for Joy Wallace Catering wowed us with its myriad of neon décor — including LED skirts and headpieces. Drapery by SWAG DECOR, a Rose Brand Company came in every color of the rainbow — including glitter, which we think should be added to ROYGBIV. With so much glow going on, we feel ready to celebrate for another 30 years and more.

Let’s hear another round of applause for this Bar Mitzvah planned by Anthony Taccetta Event Design. In addition to the glowing tablescapes, this celebration featured LED instruments and a show-stopping performance by Total Entertainment. Without a doubt, we experienced a moment of synesthesia, where sound became light and light became music.
Russell Harris Event Group and Got Light paired up to create a corporate event that guests won’t forget anytime soon. In addition to aerialist performances and LED crescent-moon ceiling installations, this illuminated bash featured drummers in LED costumes and glow-in-the-dark snare drums. From now on, we’ll take our music with a dazzling dose of lights.
There is more than one reason to love this holiday party, so we’re mentioning it twice. In addition to The Lux Productions setting the scene with astounding audio-visual effects, Entire Productions won guests over with unforgettable entertainment. Meet-and-greet LED robot dancers (with costumes featuring over 100 lights each) mingled with guests, while the DJ kept everyone on the dance floor with an eye-catching neon DJ booth.
This unforgettable corporate event dazzled guests with everything from neon art installations to glow-in-the-dark bicycle drums (you have to see it to believe it). However, it was the aerial performances by The Actors Gymnasiumthat has us glowing from head to toe. We especially love how the aerial silks mimic the vibrant laser lighting.
This trendy launch party for “The Future of Music,” captured by Tori Soper Photography, revealed how technology reinvents the way music is performed and experienced. In addition to futuristic games and a dazzling light show, guests enjoyed vibrant neon décor. We love how this neon installation and dynamic stage backdrop turned the musical performance into a multi-sensory experience. Talk about the wow factor.
This glow-themed Hulu corporate event, planned by Gravel Experiential, gave guests the opportunity to become part of the glowing décor with glow-in-the-dark accessories. From suspenders to sunglasses and headbands, the clothing at this extravaganza was meant for the stage. We especially love the glow-in-the-dark bowtie spotted on one especially-fashionable guest.
Birthdays are for making wishes come true; so when the guest of honor loves golf, a golf-themed celebration is definitely in order. Creative Touch Party Design gave guests an experience of a lifetime with a glow-in-the-dark golf course. From flagsticks to the fairway parameters, the landscape was aglow with every color of the rainbow.
We mentioned the dance floor at this neon-themed Bar and Bat Mitzvah, but the activities were just as impressive and memorable. Custom-neon paint guns brought face paint to a whole new level. Faces were (literally) glowing at this fun-filled celebration planned by Alison Ross Events.
This neon-themed 18th-birthday party was in full-swing with hanging yoga balls. Evoke Design & Creative transformed the raw space with neon-tresses, vibrant uplighting, and colorful laser lights. Guests even had the opportunity to partake in glow-in-the-dark ping pong and air hockey.
LUXE Creative created a dreamscape of light and color at the ninth annual Hamot Gala. Guests enjoyed glow-in-the-dark tabletop décor, glittering candlelight, and jewel-toned uplighting. Lighting formations shaped like DNA sequences and chemical compounds adorned the walls, while a laser-lit champagne wall tempted guests to indulge in the finer things in life.
Joy Wallace Catering’s 30th-anniversary celebration proved just how much the right caterer can elevate a celebration — with everything from a washing-machine mixologist to a fishing-for-bisque interactive-catering station. Elements & Accents, Lavish Event Rentals, and Nuage Designs added stunning furniture and details at every turn, while Alpine Creative Group designed beautiful invitations. We also love this glow-in-the-dark bar area with a backdrop of magnetic fruit containers.

This Mad Hatter-themed birthday party at Tarallucci e Vino Events featured hand-held sparklers, paper lanterns, and glow-in-the-dark ice cubes. Colorful strobe lights and an onsite-tattoo station were additional elements that made this event a birthday to remember.
They say “the third time’s the charm,” so here’s one more shout out for this glamorous Bar Mitzvah planned by Anthony Taccetta Event Design. We also love these uplit trays serving delicious bites. Sometimes, it’s fun to let the glow come straight to you.
This baseball-themed Bar Mitzvah, planned by Evoke Design & Creative, had guests smiling from ear-to-ear with a baseball-diamond dance floor and vibrant LED lighting. Guests enjoyed elevated ballpark cuisine by Ridgewells Catering, all while experiencing the surrounding twilight glow.
We’re not quite done talking about this 16th-birthday party planned by Creative Touch Party Design. In addition to the imaginative neon dance floor, these glow-in-the-dark party favors captured our imaginations. Between the glow-in-the-dark shoelaces and the bubble wands that produced iridescent bubbles, the take-home gifts had us smiling all the way to the front door.

What Do You Do at a Neon Party?
Neon-themed parties will differ depending on the type of event. A neon wedding, for example, will have a completely different schedule than a glow-in-the-dark Bar Mitzvah party.
Every celebration, however, can benefit from delicious catering, dynamic entertainment, and wow-worthy décor.
When it comes to catering, you might choose passed plates with neon trays for a cutting-edge cocktail party. Wedding couples may prefer to go with a sparkling Champagne wall and laser light décor
Remember, your party planner and team of vendors can help you decide on which glow-in-the-dark party ideas are right for you and your unique celebration.
What are Some Good Party Ideas?
Neon-themed parties are just the tip of the iceberg. Explore some of our other favorite party themes on PartySlate below:
We have to say it — we’re glad that 2020 is in our rearview mirror. But it is still worth a look back. While the year presented struggles galore, it also gave us the opportunity to learn new ways to connect with each other. What we discovered: people still want to celebrate together.
Behold 26 event and wedding photo ideas to inspire all of your upcoming events (whatever form they take). Some of these images were captured during the global pandemic, and they depict couples who wanted to marry now and celebrate later as well as groups who worked with their event teams to celebrate safely.
Yet more of the event and wedding photo ideas featured here were from the beginning of the year, when we had no idea how lucky we were to be gathering together at all. Some of the images might be from years past, but just shared on PartySlate this year.
Whenever these photos were actually taken, we’re convinced that they will make you as happy as they’ve made us. In these images we see unfettered joy, special glances, secret moments, glorious eventscapes, and more.
Most of all, we see resilience. Celebrations are already coming back — intimately and safely — and we know that in the not-so-distant future, we will be able to clink our glasses and crowd dance floors once again. In the meantime, find event and wedding photo ideas here (and don’t forget to save your favorites by clicking the “heart” symbol on the images and/or events you love).
This image makes us miss exciting corporate conferences — with their big visions and even bigger entertainment. We can feel the energy of associations, ideas, and progress just by glancing at this dynamic image from Revelry Photo House.
This wedding in France employed a chateau as a creative and stunning backdrop, ornamented with silk drapery and greenery. We adore how Amy Mulder Photography stepped back to delight us with a sweeping image of the entire glorious scene. Perfection.

A good photographer captures an event — a great one, like Andrew Weeks Photography, evokes emotion. We love the totally happy, sing-along vibe of this wedding shot (from a time when we could crowd dance floors with abandon).
Oh, how we love the way that Bozena Voytko Photography focuses only on this beautiful embrace, allowing friends and family (and the wedding venue and the details and décor) to momentarily fade in favor of this tender moment. Sigh.
photographer: Bozena Voytko Photography | venue: Company 251 | calligraphy table accents, menus, place cards, & table runners: The Blonde Scribe | calligraphy signage: By Precious Anne | marquee event rentals: To The Nines Events | hotel accommodations: Hotel Arista | invitation suite: Calligraphy by Christine; Cathleen’s Cards | videography: Anchored Films | wedding cake: Two Wild Seeds Baking Company
900 North Michigan is depicted as a towering tribute to the holidays in Chicago in this glorious image from Ben Ramos Photography. The sparkling photo was captured at the annual winter event kicking off the holiday season on the Magnificent Mile.
This wedding image evokes glamour with its grand staircase and ornate surroundings of the Four Seasons Chicago. But what we really love about this photo from Bob & Dawn Davis Photography is its perspective — not only how it has been captured from above, but also how it feels like we are peeking in on a secret moment. Just beautiful.
This image, beautifully captured by Carasco Photography, shows that Covid-safe celebrations can be both chic and fun, and that love isn’t cancelled. So many uplifting messages are packed into one joyful photo. The full event album on Carasco’s PartySlate profile has lots more creative and safe ideas for event seating and dining as well as more wedding photo ideas.
When you’ve got 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, like McCormick Place in Chicago does, it’s not easy to convey the grand scale of an event. But that’s exactly what DTKindler Photography showed with this expansive image, giving us a feel for not only the space but also the massive number of summit attendees.
Romy Modlin beautifully captured the theming, camaraderie, and trip through childhood at this Bat Mitzvah celebration in one perfect image. We love how the massive round table echoes the circle of life that a Bat Mitzvah represents — ever turning, unbroken, filled with loved ones.
We have questions. “What is going on here?” is certainly on our list. But, mainly, we want to ask for a job so we can be invited to Brainlab’s rockin’ employee appreciation party — because Tori Soper Photography’s image tells us everything we need to know about the type of workplace that attracts (and celebrates) with a fun crowd like this.
Don’t we all feel like this at the end of a really fun night? A skilled photographer like Caitlin Hamilton Photography is always seeking out little moments that even the happy couple are likely to miss during their wedding celebration. Luckily, they will get to relive them later through rich images (as can you by viewing more photos from this event for your own wedding photo ideas).
Most often, first looks happen between the happy couple who is about to be married, but this father-daughter first look grabbed us by the heartstrings. The very next image that Kelly Hornberger Photography captured shows dad, tears wiped clean, smiling at the cheek-kiss from his beloved daughter.
Celebrations are already coming back — intimately and safely — and we know that in the not-so-distant future, we will be able to clink our glasses and crowd dance floors once again.
Watching a wedding ceremony often has the effect of filling us all with gratitude for those we love. We adore how Cheers Babe Photo not only masterfully captured the ceremony, but also this sweet moment between members of the wedding party.
We just adore this sweet, stolen moment under the couple’s stunning floral wedding arch. It’s not easy to capture the scope of this glorious décor, as well as the love between this couple — but Duke Images manages to convey both grandeur and emotion. See more of Duke Images’ work to find additional wedding photo ideas.
We love how this birds-eye view, beautifully captured by Gabor Ekecs, shows the glamour of Hollywood at this exclusive HBO Golden Globes party (while also making it feel approachable). These kinds of behind-the-scenes peeks keep us glued to the photographer’s profile.
We had a tough time choosing a favorite image from Greer Gattuso’s portfolio — from classic NOLA moments like a wedding parade to tents glowing in the twilight — but ultimately the creative perspective of this photo won us over. We feel immersed in this dreamy aisle, captured moments before the couple walked down it.
We love how Second Line Photography captured this special moment away from the hubbub of the wedding celebration. This frame-able image of two little girls dressed in finery conspiring on a mossy step makes us smile.
Don’t get us wrong, we love photos of invitation suites, especially when they’re styled with décor elements that evoke the vibe of the celebration. But this cheeky image captured by Theresa Elizabeth Photography delighted us as it shows two brides perhaps sharing a secret over their chic tablescape (evocative of our favorite visions of Italy).
Wow. Just wow. This magical image from ArtVesta Studio captures a private residence lit up for a birthday celebration. While the masquerade party inside was also beautifully captured, this photo of the scene that greeted guests upon arrival stopped us in our tracks (and made us envious of those guests).
Other images from this COVID-safe Zoom wedding, show the happy couple connecting with loved ones via computers and phones, their delight not dulled by the distance; but this image captured by Gruber Photographers shows the couple’s pure joy of being wed, even in the most difficult of times.
A key skill of a top photographer is predicting where to be at any given moment to capture what’s about to happen, and never have we seen a better example than this one from Roey Yohai Studios. We just love seeing cheering guests rush to the dance floor for the groom’s crowd surfing.
This hillside scene with swirling girls in white is giving us happy “Sound of Music” vibes. We appreciate how Sara Wight Photography allowed these girls to just be girls — barefoot and unposed — in all of their silly, twirling glory, while capturing every beautiful and lighthearted moment of it.
This image from Francis Ralph Potograpiya depicts a golden moment — with a bride and child who seem to glow from within with captured expressions that tell their story in one glorious frame. Really, how did the photographer manage to capture this in what feels like 3-D as the subjects pop from the background?
Jim Vetter Photography beautifully captured every moment of this proposal — from the groom-to-be down on one knee to the happy soon-to-be-weds together. We love how the image evokes the happy couple, together, peering into their bright future.
It’s not easy to capture a moment of dynamic entertainment in a static image, but here Lynn Boyle Photography conveys action and pure joy, and we can easily imagine the crowded dance floor filled with smiling faces just beyond the photographer’s shoulder.
photographer: Lynette Boyle Photography | floral design: Thierry Chantrel | venue: A Private Estate | catering: Sage Catering | band: Pride and Joy | linens: La Tavola Fine Linen | bakery: Bouchon | hair & makeup: Wallett | paper goods: Osage Collective
This deep dip made us smile wide. Jen Philips Photography chose a wonderful angle on this couple’s first dance finale, allowing us to appreciate not only the loving moment between the grooms, but also the delighted and awed expressions of their loved ones.
PartySlate Founder and CEO Julie Roth Novack sat down with International Event Planner Colin Cowie and Managing Editor Pamela Rothbard to discuss the state of destination events for 2021. Colin, founder of Colin Cowie Lifestyle, plans and designs destination weddings and events — with a focus on epic décor and transformative spaces that reflect the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
The panel began by discussing the appeal of destination weddings and events. A destination event “is not just an event,” Colin tells us. “It’s a statement of style.” He goes on to say, “It’s much more meaningful over a period of a weekend where guests can share quality time together.”
For events in the future, he says that party hosts will have a whole new level of responsibility. They need to be part of the collaboration on safety and precaution. He also thinks that domestic destinations will become more popular since people can travel by car and support their local economy in the process.
While Colin can’t say for sure what the future of destination events will look like, he knows that we have to keep moving forward. Events will inevitably look different post-pandemic, and we will continue to learn more as time goes on. One thing is certain, however. Colin knows to keep looking ahead and be grateful for the opportunities of the present moment.

The New Year always means new catering trends and food styles. 2021, however, will mark far more than just a new year with new fads.
As 2020 draws to a close, and we look toward the future, we are filled with hope for a better year. We yearn to connect with loved ones, visit new places, and celebrate the important milestones in our lives.
As restaurants begin to reopen, and celebrations return in all of their glory, we at PartySlate are excited to predict what new catering trends are on the horizon.
While the end of the pandemic is finally in sight, we expect catering and events to maintain certain safety precautions implemented over the last year. Keep on the lookout for single-servings, covered dishes, and sanitary packagings.
Anticipate creative catering displays and a meticulous attention to detail. Look for new colors and sensory engagement. Of course, keep an eye out for a resurgence of virtual food kits and catering classes. After all, the party is always better when everyone (including out-of-town guests) can attend.
Join PartySlate as we explore the hottest catering trends that we expect to see in 2021. Moreover, check out PartySlate for all of your party-planning needs. Whether you are looking to connect with venues and vendors or simply find inspiration, PartySlate is here to help you celebrate in style.
As the proverb goes, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” COVID-19 has forced all of us to rethink the way we serve food. Over the last year, caterers and other event professionals have used innovative thinking and problem-solving skills to adapt to the times.
At PartySlate, we’ve seen adaptations on everything from individually served meals to buffet lines. While we remain hopeful that a vaccine is on the horizon and events will return in full capacity, we expect these new safety-precaution trends to continue in 2021 (and even beyond). After all, making guests feel safe and cared for never goes out of style.
1. Buffets With Safety Precautions

Good Gracious! Events keeps the buffet line sanitary with masked servers and separate serving dishes. Of course, sanitary can still be chic. See how glittery face masks complement the surrounding décor.
photographer: Trevor Ekanger | planner: Elle R. Jae Events | venue: Felicity Church | caterers: My House Events, Salt and Light Pasty Co., Elysian Events Catering, & Meribo
My House Events, renowned for supporting local chefs and bringing communities together, believes in using food to make the world a better place. We think this sanitary oyster bar does just that.
Bring the food to your guests — while practicing social distancing — with tray service that features individually-packaged food. Discover how M.Studio Events keeps food on theme with a cohesive branding strategy.
Lidded shots keep the party both sanitary and festive. They’re also a great opportunity for corporate or personal branding. Don’t forget to use a florist like The Style Marc who knows how to maintain a continuous color palette with lavish pink and Champagne-hued floral décor.
Elegant Affairs Caterers elevates summer fruity cocktails with rustic-chic mason jars. We love how the sealed lids keeps CDC guidelines — while also keeping your beverage free of pesky summer insects.
Glass cloches aren’t just a catering trend; they’re one of PartySlate’s top party and wedding trends for 2021. Le Basque is ahead of the curve with these gorgeous glass domes that make tray-service possible (as well as photo-worthy) during a global pandemic.
Cloches aren’t just for appetizers. We love how these glass domes add drama and beauty to the dining experience. In this case, the cuisine by STYLE Catering, Inc. is just as beautiful as the floral décor.
These gorgeous mini cakes with glass-dome coverings show us how to celebrate while social distancing. Click to see how other gorgeous dessert spreads by Sweet Guilt & Ktering Desserts at this gorgeous baby-naming celebration planned by LV Event Designs.
The events industry knows how to reinvent itself year after year — even during a global pandemic. As weddings, corporate events, and milestone celebrations narrowed in size and capacity, caterers and event planners turned their attention to the details. With that in mind, we anticipate 2021 to be the year where creativity reaches new heights — and every element of a meal is elevated to perfection. Expect to see clever catering displays and stunning food presentations. After all, nothing brings people together like a shared meal. It’s time to shine a spotlight on cuisine.
We know we’re not supposed to play with our food, but this salad by MAX Ultimate Food is almost too fun to eat. Of course, when a salad is this delicious, we have to take a bite.
photographer: Villa Visuals | florals: Lavenders Floral | venue: The Yost Theater | caterer: 24 Carrots Catering and Events | rentals: Found Rentals | linen: La Tavola Fine Linen
Forget the traditional bowl. These soup cans by 24 Carrots Catering & Events bring Pop Art sophistication to the first course. We also love how they create an opportunity for personal or corporate branding.
Lucite shelving paired with glass teapots meant more views of the gorgeous surroundings at Park Hyatt Aviara Resort. Click to see how candlelight illuminated this gorgeous beverage display after sunset.
We love how this gorgeous dessert by Betty Zlatchin Catering & Events looks like it’s floating in mid air thanks to lucite shelving. Click to see closeups of this wow-worthy dessert spread.
As caterers and event professionals continue to rethink safety-precautions, expect personalized fare to receive all the fanfare in 2021.
Forget the personal pan pizza of your youth. Expect your personalized cuisine to receive the same care and attention as any gourmet meal.
Instead of servings of wedding cake, imagine your own mini cake crafted just for you. Forget crowding around a charcuterie spread at a baby shower or holiday party.
2021 is the year for individual charcuterie boards and more. It’s time to get personal.
8. Individual Desserts of Our Dreams
photos courtesy of, planner, design, & florals: Amy Zaroff Events + Design | floral: Arts and Flowers | venue: Private Residence | invitations & printed accessories: Two Paper Dolls | rentals: Apres Party & Tent Rental | a/v & live stream: AVEX | entertainment: Élan Artists | specialty décor: Girl Friday & Material Girl Graphics | caterer: D’amico Catering | bar service: A Proper Pour
Who wouldn’t want a wedding cake all to themself? This gorgeous wedding, planned by Amy Zaroff Events + Design, has us dreaming about dessert (and future catering trends) with these individually-packaged wedding cakes.
Viola’s Kitchen Catering & Event Planning certainly knows how to keep everyone at the party satisfied. These individual dessert pies, served in glamorous goblets, make us want to spend a quiet moment alone before rejoining the celebration.
The appetizer spoon is about to get a whole lot sweeter. We are obsessed with these passed dessert bites by Chef CW. Now you can mix and mingle post-dinner without worrying about missing the best course of the meal.
AP Events and Catering Inc.turns individual charcuterie boards into a gourmet main course. We especially love how the colorful (and absolutely delicious) cuisine pops against modern dinnerware.
Sweetwater Farms knows how to make small plates that are big on style. These individual cast irons turn any sit-down meal — be it a wedding, milestone celebration, or corporate event — into a sumptuous dining experience.
Great food — like this party cuisine catered by Unique Catering Design — goes even better with Champagne. Mini Champagne bottles make for great party favors. Of course, we might be tempted to indulge in such a gift before the party’s over.
We tend to take certain things for granted: Wedding cakes are white, strawberries are red. However, 2021 is the year to let go of certain preconceived notions.
Food, as we know it, is about to “try on” some new colors. Look for edgy and original trends in 2021 like black wedding cakes or gold-plated fruit.
For now, it’s time to rediscover what the rainbow has to offer.
12. Midnight Black Wedding Cakes

This black wedding cake by Betty Zlatchin Catering & Events makes us rethink what we know about wedding color palettes. While 2020 may have brought us social distancing and take-home catering, 2021 is the year to try new out new hues.
We’ve heard of chocolate covered strawberries, but we’ve never seen anything like these gold-plated strawberries by Déjà vu Sweets. Dessert is about to get even more luxurious.
At-home birthday parties are more popular than ever. As such, caterers are finding new ways to bring the party to you. This birthday party, planned by SPACE EVENTS, turns dining into an interactive experience with a sleek food truck.
Turn the backyard into a campsite with delicious treats around the campfire. These popcorn bags from Blue Plate Catering make us want to linger under the stars. Don’t forget to use the bag as an opportunity for personal branding.
A campsite — or backyard bash — isn’t complete without a s’mores station. Discover how this s’mores station by Abigail Kirsch Catering complements the camping theme at this outdoor corporate event.
Even weddings can benefit from a campfire and s’mores station. Occasions Caterers made this tented wedding celebration a memorable affair with delicious cuisine that culminated with a shared dessert around a toasty fire.
While these Diwali Treasure Boxes by Sukhadia Caterers are gorgeous keepsakes that are meant to last a lifetime, they inspire us to make snacks that are easy to bring with us wherever we go — including the backyard. We expect to see grazing boxes hit the party scene in 2021.
Ceci of Ceci New York is a renowned trendsetter in the events industry. So it’s no surprise that her son’s social-distanced outdoor birthday party was filled with one creative idea after another. We especially love these tackle boxes filled with delicious snacks awaiting guests at their own personal campsites. Click to see more exciting trends from this innovative celebration.
As much as we love sit-down dinners, we are excited to see how the classic cocktail hour is influencing meals across the country. Outdoor celebrations and social-distanced gatherings mean caterers are thinking outside the box (or in this case, the dinner table).
Handheld fare allows guests to mingle freely while enjoying delicious cuisine. Talk about a move in the right direction.
18. Beyond the Ice Cream Cone — Savory Delights
photographer: Catchlight Group | venue: The Astorian | caterer: Wolfgang Puck Catering – Houston | rentals: Swift Events
Who says cones are just for ice cream? Renowned trendsetter Wolfgang Puck Catering – Houston takes salad to new dimensions with these stylish paper cones. We have to admit, they look good enough to eat.
How do we like our popcorn with garlic-anchovy butter? On the go, of course. Work of Art Catering creates the perfect handheld treat for a celebration on the move.
This Great Gatsby-themed birthday party, planned and designed by KeAira Chantell Events, brings Art Deco back to the 21st century. It also wows with delicious cuisine, including these mac & cheese cones. Finally, this beloved side dish gets dessert status.

This dessert by Michael Scott Events might be easy to consume on the go, but it begs to be savored. We especially love how it evokes a cocktail with its chocolate “salted” rim and elaborate garnishes.
We’ll take our martini “shaken, not stirred.” Or in this case, we’ll take this gorgeous fruity dessert (complete with a chocolate-covered pretzel stir stick) by Windows Catering Company just as it is.

True, cake pops have been around for awhile. However, 2021 is the year where they’re going to be elevated to works of fine art. These gorgeous cake pops are one of many stunning elements at this swan-themed birthday party planned by Valia Rose Events. Click to see more details.
Shared Meals Across the Globe With Virtual Entertainment
Even as in-person celebrations return, we expect to see a component of virtual and hybrid events continue into 2021 and beyond. After all, virtual events allow guests to overcome the obstacles of time and distance.
When it comes to planning a virtual or hybrid event, it’s important to think beyond the Zoom call. Keep guests satiated and engaged with food kits and remote catering classes. Sharing a meal in two different time zones is about to become easier — not to mention, fun.
21. Remote Catering Classes Bring Us Closer Together
photo courtesy of caterer: Labaratory by Scarlette
Virtual cocktail making classes, like this one by Labaratory by Scarlette, create instant engagement for any virtual event — be it a corporate holiday party, wedding shower, or milestone birthday party. Laboratory by Scarlette also allows you to send cocktail kits to each guest in advance. Sitting in front of the computer has never looked so fun.
This bento box by Constellation Culinary Group has us wishing for that next virtual event. Sharing a meal (especially without the clean up) makes for a more meaningful celebration. We expect virtual meal kits to keep us well fed in 2021.
We have a new appreciation for taste and smell these days — and it looks like caterers do too. Look for dramatic sensory experiences (along with your dinner) in 2021.
After all, aromas and taste go hand-in-hand. Cue the edible perfumes, warming flames, and scented coasters. After a year of paired down gatherings and late-night dinners over Zoom calls, we’re ready to indulge all of our senses.
23. A Spritz of Delicious

While modern perfumery began in the late 19th century, its origins date back to some of the first human civilizations. After so many thousands of years, perfume continues to evolve. This glamorous cocktail by Constellation Culinary Group (with a spritz of edible perfume) has us ready for 2021.

We always love cocktails with a twist. This summer dinner soirée, planned by Amanda Price Events, featured an updated Old Fashioned with smoked rum, orange bitters, and Madagascar vanilla bean. Quinn Richard, owner of Cocktail+Creative, tells us how “it’s complemented with a malty, bitter cocoa Guinness ice ball and sealed in a jar to be infused with 100% Nicaraguan ligero tobacco leaves.” The result: “A bold smokey flavor giving this cocktail an alluring sophistication.”
This PartySlate D.C. launch party brought together some of the best vendors in Washington, D.C. and beyond. It also foreshadowed one of our favorite trends we expect to see in 2021. Courtesy of The Liquor Laundry, guests were instructed to lift their custom coasters which released a puff of scented smoke from each whiskey-based cocktail.
You may be sensing a theme here. 2021 is the year where creativity reaches new heights — both with catering and other celebratory trends. With that in mind, we look forward to seeing the art of bartending continue to flourish.
Expect craft cocktails to benefit from unique garnishes and mimosa stations to experiment with new flavors. There will be so many reasons to toast as in-person gatherings come back. So why not do it in style?
Garnishes provide beautiful embellishments to any cocktail. However, it’s time to think beyond the olive. We love how this photo-worthy cocktail, crafted by Wolfgang Puck Catering, boasts a dried hibiscus garnish.
Of course, Mimosas never go out of style. However, 2021 is the year for trying new flavors. Double points for matching your mimosa station with your décor (like this one by Colette’s Catering & Events).
At PartySlate, we are always on the lookout for creativity and innovation. This unique take on the mixed drink by Ram Caterers has us ready to be our own bartenders (especially if it comes with tray service).
Occasions Caterers always know how to bring innovation to a party. Without a doubt, these colorful cans with elaborate fruit garnishes are Instagram-worthy. We also love how kids get to partake in the festivities with alcohol-free options.

Brunch and Mother’s Day generally go hand in hand — and this annual Mother’s Day brunch in Chicago, hosted at The Estate by Gene & Georgetti, had unique details that made it extra special. A green, pink, and teal color palette offered a vibrant spring color palette, and guests enjoyed special dishes and treats from the reputable in-house catering company.
Best of all, the spacious brunch venue offered elegance and plenty of room for roaming.
A clear sign of a good time is happy people — especially at a party. This adorable brunch wedding in Charlottesville, Virginia features guests chatting and laughing, while also enjoying delicious brunch cuisine.
Hungry guests could dine in style while those who weren’t done chatting, cozied up to the bar for sips and chat. We imagine the bride and groom also made memories to last a lifetime.
This brunch wedding was more invigorating than the best cup of coffee. We love the luxe velvet lounge areas, boxwood backdrops, and lucite chuppah with encased florals. And we just adore an outdoor brunch venue when the weather is nice.
In addition to the richly-hued décor, a Bloody Mary and smoothie bar starred in plenty of Instagram posts with its unique geometric shelving. We love an Instagrammable moment at celebrations.
Chic gold accents — from sleek chairs to complementary flatware — elevated an otherwise-understated dusty blue wedding color palette at this Washington, D.C. celebration, hosted at The Hay Adams.
Unique luggage tag place cards added an unexpected element that also doubled as a takeaway gift for guests. One brunch party idea we love is little elements of surprise like this for your guests; they really make a daytime gathering feel considered and well-planned.
Note to self: large square tables are the new round tables. Pacific Standard Time was the perfect restaurant venue for this intimate brunch event in Chicago.
The corporate client chose a floor plan and setup that clearly fostered discussion and conversation, while restaurant staff worked to provide its guests with a delicious and fulfilling breakfast. We appreciate how the modern space requires little in the way of décor for a chic brunch.
We happen to adore a daytime event as we can’t think of a better way to spend daylight hours than celebrating a special moment with friends and family.
The Bali-inspired jewelry line of corporate client John Hardy provided design-forward inspiration for this lush client luncheon. Vibrant orange and fuschia florals popped against textured linen, keeping with the tropical theme. Gold serve-ware further elevated the daytime gathering.
Guests enjoyed an intimate luncheon, which included remarks from both the CEO and Creative Director of John Hardy, as well as a menu infused with traditional Balinese cuisine.
This Bat Mitzvah brunch completely won us over with lavish balloon installations, rosé-all-day signage, and photo-worthy catering stations. A coffee station and cereal station made for scrumptious dining, while stylish kiddy cocktails tempted even the adults. Guests received custom to-go coffee cups and Bat Mitzvah-girl approved perfume.
Breakfast flatbreads, biscuit sandwiches, freshly-baked pastries — this brunch party in Orange County, California was filled with comfort dishes we want to eat. White serving dishes, greenery-filled arrangements, and rustic wood accents complemented the cuisine, which already looked so delicious on its own.
It’s nearly impossible to choose our favorite element of this art-inspired corporate luncheon in Miami, but the fresh waffle cone station is high on our list. Guests could then fill their waffle cones with sweet toppings for an epic customizable dessert. Other lunch options included a spud smash bar and a sweet spin station, a creative take on edible art.
Guests at this spring luncheon had the chance to choose their own donut toppings at this sleek, modern donut station. Donut towers featured glazed and chocolate donuts just waiting to be decorated, while clear bins of toppings (including what looks like every type of cereal ever created) let guests’ imaginations run wild.
Is it just us or is everything better with a little bit of drama? This brunch with Executive Chef Johanna Hellrigl at Yours Truly DC showed guests the range of her talent. From bruléed donuts to flaky croissants, guests enjoyed delightful bites in the new, modern space. Nifty gift bags sent guests home with a smile as they dreamed about hosting events at the hotel.
What’s a delicious brunch without platters of pastries? The expert team at Tarallucci e Vino Events would agree, which is why they featured plenty of sweet treats at this corporate conference in New York. Mini croissants and fresh fruit, as well as multiple savory options like fluffy scrambled eggs, gave all of the conference-goers ample options throughout the event.
This branded brunch for Frida Baby was hosted at Duryea’s Lobster Deck right on the beach in Montauk. You would have thought the beach would be the focal point, but it was actually a creative and bold floral wall that kept guests’ attention. Click to see more photos from this perfectly-branded brunch event, including the unforgettable Instagrammable element.
When it comes to throwing a great brunch party, a skilled team is your best resource. Hire an event planner. They will help you every step of the way from choosing a fun or elegant theme and composing the perfect venue to developing a delectable menu and selecting a photographer to capture it all.
When it comes to brunch — just like all events — the more personal and creative your gathering, the more enjoyable and memorable it will be for you and your guests. Consider every moment from how you will welcome your guests to how you will thoughtfully seat them and you might send them off with care.
One brunch party idea for welcoming your guests is to serve a signature cocktail upon arrival. When it comes to seating your guests, you can get creative with a seating chart. For example, if your event style is bohemian, use dreamcatchers as seating cards or if you’re having a rainbow theme, use cards in every color of the rainbow for a stunning display.
When it comes to tabletops, of course your décor will reflect your chosen style and theme, but you also have an opportunity to offer something a little special at each seat. You can write a personal note to each guest tucked into their napkins or have sprigs of fresh rosemary or mint on each plate to heighten their senses.
Guests will remember your party because it was a special event, but you can also send them home with memories in the form of photos or a small, meaningful gift. A photo booth is a fun addition to any event and allows guests to capture fun moments as they happen and take them home that day.
In terms of brunch party favors, you can theme to the event or season or simply something you love. For example, at daytime holiday event, you can send guests home with Christmas ornaments. We also love the idea of giving things from a city you love — bagels straight from New York or infamous Garrett’s Popcorn from Chicago.
What do you serve at a brunch party?
The beauty of hosting a midday celebration, is that you get to serve your favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Some ideas:
Mix it up with sweet and savory dishes
Offer some menu items as passed bites and others at each table
Make sure there is a “wow” moment with one dish that is either:
interactive (donuts with lots of toppings for a custom experience)
dramatic (a towering display of fried chicken and waffles)
surprising (individual ice towers with single servings of fresh seafood)
Serve the meal in small courses to keep guests engaged
Curate a custom cocktail with a creative name
There are some items that are always surefire hits at brunch: cinnamon rolls, crepes, omelets, shrimp cocktail, steak and eggs, fresh fruit, Mimosas, and Bloody Mary cocktails.
You can also choose dishes that adhere to your chosen theme.
For example, a tropical-themed gathering with tabletops filled with palm leaves and exotic florals would be a good fit for island juices like guava or fresh coconut water (served right in the coconut) and a rice dish.
A rustic celebration might feature tables of candles flickering in mason jars and colorful wildflowers along with sips of fine rye and charred chicken with a side of biscuits.
Other popular themes include 1920s, Mardi Gras, Paris, rainbow, disco, and space. Styles can range from beach bohemian to elegant mountain, and oh-so-many more.
The struggle was real in 2020. A worldwide pandemic put our lives in peril and halted everyday activities, but it also brought new heroes to the forefront as healthcare workers finally got the notice they deserve. Our national news was dominated by the violence of police brutality and riots, but also peaceful marches and mobilization on social media that brought long-needed attention to America’s race relations.
When it came to celebrations, large events were postponed, but smaller gatherings flourished. We witnessed a renewed appreciation for celebrating together. More than anything, one message is clear: We still want to share our most meaningful moments with the special people in our lives.
As such, we saw an increased interest and creativity around producing safe celebrations. In fact, it was a year rife with event innovation. Entrances were modified to allow for social distancing, COVID-19 testing and temperature checks were done on-site, sanitizer and masks were provided (themed to the party, of course). We also saw the rise of beautiful new seating designs and catering ingenuity. Technology stepped in to allow groups to connect and gather virtually in new and exciting ways.
Such a unique year requires closer examination. In PartySlate‘s first “State of Celebrations,” we are gathering and sharing insight from what you liked, favorited, shared, saved, Pinned, and more to remind you what inspired you in 2020 — and predicting what’s to come in the new year.
Balloons are Decorating the Most Elegant of Events
Most Viewed Events of 2020
More than half of PartySlate‘s most viewed events of 2020 feature stunning balloon installations. They spark the imagination with whimsy and elevate celebrations with elegance. We’re seeing balloons as stand-ins for arches, backdrops, ceiling décor, and more. In terms of hues, ombré and rainbows are making 2020 more beautiful (and bearable).
Most Searched Themes & Most Popular Articles Published in 2020
Our top on-site searches as well as a few of our most read articles published in 2020 show an increased interest in creative theming. As events shrunk in size this year, they grew in creativity — and there’s no better way to tie together every detail of a celebration than with a cohesive theme that can be expressed everywhere from the entrance and the ceiling décor to the fare being served and even the guest dress code.
Your top searches on PartySlate included halloween-themed parties (which can happen any time of year), circus motifs, and neon celebrations (which had such strong interest that we designed an entire article around the theme this year).
Some of our most read articles of the year also show your interest in creative themes for all kinds of events, even those hosted virtually.

31 PartySlate Zoom Background Images for All of Your Virtual Parties & Celebrations
From intimate virtual dinner parties to festive baby showers, our selection of real event photos will make the perfect themed Zoom background for your next celebration.
We are seeing more and more events built around a single-hued palette. Textures and lighting are being employed to create depth in grand monochrome visions.
Ever since Pantone named Ultra Violet their Color of the Year for 2018, the hue has been setting the stage for parties with a capital P. Violet creates a festive scene for dance-all-night parties and cocktails clinked at midnight (and beyond).
Meanwhile, as Billy Idol crooned in the 80s, white weddings are still the most popular. And we’re not just talking about the dress, but entire soirées positively drenched in white from floor to ceiling. Mixed metals and glass elements allow white florals to take center stage at lush ceremonies and receptions.
The most saved events on Idea Slates show the breadth of the types of celebrations on PartySlate as well as the types of events that you’re actively planning right now. Specifically, weddings, birthdays, and corporate events are not cancelled. You are still actively planning these gatherings for the future or adapting to our current limitations.
Technology is playing a vital role in the latter, offering party hosts the ability to entertain a small group in person while including a much larger number of guests from remote locations. Projection mapping isn’t just creating event dreamscapes, but is integrating faraway guests more fully into the in-person event experience. We predict that these new elements of virtual events will be around for a long time.
While many of the most saved events of 2020 were from years past, one of this year’s celebrations perfectly shows how technology can be leveraged for an elegant and inclusive event.

Hybrid Wedding in NYC
On of your most saved events of the year was this hybrid wedding. It featured extraordinary technical features that elevated the décor as well as connected guests near and far. It is appropriate for our times that this event was so well-loved as it is a shining example of people find innovative ways to still share special moments even in difficult times.
It’s no surprise that 90% of PartySlate’s most-liked posts on Instagram depict outdoor celebrations. Not only does 2020 have us feeling cooped up, but it’s also safer to gather out in the fresh air. Your most-liked photos depict parties in gardens and backyards, next to vineyards and the ocean, under afternoon skies and lights strung over tables. Sigh.
You’re also still loving more of last year’s trends. Hello again circular arches at beautiful weddings and pampas grass lending its feathery elegance to altars, ceilings, and tabletops.
We’re seeing a return to the natural and neutral. There’s an infusion of greenery and raw wood — as well as the queen of event neutrals and one of our faves: sand-hued pampas grass.
When color is employed, it’s in palettes not found on the color wheel: white, cream, and black.
Gathering Safely is Top of Mind
Most Shared Posts of 2020 on Instagram
Sharing is caring — and sometimes a scene is so gorgeous and an event so memorable, that you just can’t keep it to yourself.
The events of this year have us all considering how to gather safely, and while a full five of your top 10 are food-related, two of them are especially timely: personal charcuterie boards and tiny individually-boxed gourmet pizzas.
Individualized presentations like these show the ingenuity that caterers have shown this year to ensure that their fare is served both beautifully and safely.
We love that PartySlate’s Instagram is serving as inspiration for all of your future celebrations (and current dreams).
Pinterest can often tend towards do-it-yourself visions, but the event elements most Pinned from PartySlate tell a different story. They spin a tale of elevated celebrations rich with the kind of attention to detail and over-the-top visions that only a team of talented event professionals can conjure.
Your Pins have told us that you love engaging entrances — whether it’s a clown beckoning into an off-kilter circus, a glass-like wedding aisle, a unique iridescent brand installation, or a path created by criss-crossing neon beams of light. You’re also fond of a good dose of dramatic design like a stunning ballroom with a ceiling of inverted alabaster blooms or a celebration that glowed lavender under the desert sky.
It’s no easy task to sum our most Pinned images, but one message is clear: we all still yearn to gather and are always looking for inspired ways to do so. And often, that requires the help of a team of talented vendors to realize a grand vision.
We find ourselves hopeful as we head into 2021. This year has been a great teacher with lessons on resilience, priorities and the importance of staying connected with others. We’re looking forward to gathering with each other in the new year.
We’re bringing you the top 20 events of 2020 to wrap up an unforgettable year. 2020 wowed with larger, pre-pandemic celebrations — and then inspired with smaller (and sometimes virtual) gatherings. We want to celebrate all those milestones in life.
We look back at this year where so much has happened. We lost the legend Kobe Bryant. Prince Harry and Meghan quit the royal family. TikTok became everyone’s new favorite app, and everyone binge watched way too much Netflix as we lived through a global pandemic.
With all this change, people still found a way to celebrate and bring us some of our favorite events of all time.

Fast forward to the outdoor reception with a crisp white dance floor surrounded by long tablescapes and suspended upside down floral arrangements. Guests had the options to relax at vibrant lounges or take a ride on a ferris wheel. This celebration is one that can’t be missed.

This rustic-inspired San Diego wedding was filled with gorgeous autumn colors. The bride and groom celebrated their love under a chuppah delicately covered in various colored florals. Every detail of this celebration was unforgettable.

Later, everyone dined under twinkling lights suspended from the trees — while surrounded by vibrant décor (and even a giraffe). Guests ended the night with a special visit from their favorite celebrity impersonator.

This wedding, set in Brazil, wowed with its jaw-dropping ceremony and vivid details. The bride glided down a mirrored aisle that looked like water and was surrounded by lilac, baby blue, and coral bouquets. As the bride and groom receded down the aisle, guests held heart-shaped balloons for a picture-perfect photo op. Afterward, the couple headed into the reception where each table was covered in colorful linen and stunning floral arrangements.

What better way to celebrate a 70th birthday than with an epic 70s-inspired celebration? Guests arrived in their favorite disco attire and danced all night long. Disco balls hung from the ceiling while go go dancers danced in cages next to the dance floor. We love how disco balls were incorporated into every part of this celebration from the drinks to the floral arrangements. Without a doubt, this was one of the most epic birthday bashes of the year.
Guests may have been in Mexico to celebrate this birthday, but the décor made them feel like they were transported to Morocco. We love that guests sat under a translucent dome that was covered in string lights and gave the illusion of being under the stars. Each lounge area was unique with a mix of floor cushions, love seats, and lounge chairs for guests to relax. There were hookah stations and glowing candle centerpieces, as well. The views of the ocean and orange color scheme also made this birthday so unique.

A black and gold balloon arch (along with branded signage) greeted guests as they entered this micro backyard dinner party. Before sitting down for dinner, guests were offered mini Lego jello shots —which made for an unforgettable dining experience. Each guest received a mini Star Wars-inspired place card as they sat down to a stylish and modern tablescape complete with gorgeous golden chandeliers. We love all the unique details of this Star Wars-themed backyard soireé.
Who could forget the fish camp-themed birthday celebration? This was the perfect social-distanced celebration, with all the fun elements that a kid’s party should have. Guests received a custom invitation box that stirred excitement before the party even began. From the colorful balloon art entrance, social-distanced camping sets, and charcuterie tackle boxes — every detail of this celebration was thought out and perfectly executed. We especially loved the matching mother and son face masks.
Guests entered into a CandyLand extravaganza through a pastel balloon arch. Guests were then transported into a magical venue that was transformed into a world full of color and lots of candy. Balloon arrangements, custom signage with the birthday girl’s name, and plenty of sweet treats made this an unforgettable birthday celebration.
This Bat Mitzvah celebration was one of the sweetest of 2020 — literally. Each table had different sweets as their centerpieces: one with colorful ice cream, another with life-size popsicles. Catering included a design-your-own individual pizza and life-size candy bars for dessert. An air brush station, hip-hop dancers, and all-out neon décor made this celebration a hit.
If you are obsessed with Wicked the musical, you will absolutely fall in love with this Bat Mitzvah party. The design team carefully thought out every detail of this celebration, which made it all the more wicked. Everything was customized; from the cocktail napkins, to the chapstick, toilet paper, and more. Entertainment for the night included both a photo and Tik Tok booth, a drag queen show, temporary tattoos, and an eyelash and hair extension station. Lastly, guests grabbed some French fries from a fry food truck as they said their goodbyes.
Slack showed us how to celebrate an anniversary in the best way possible. Everything at this event — from the colors to the bowling pins — was branded. Each guest received branded pop sockets, buttons, and even a beanie. Of course, a celebration wouldn’t be a hit without multiple photo ops like the colorful bathtub, life-sized cake, and the classic photo booth. Lastly, even the DIY food station was organized by Slack’s brand colors.
For all the beauty lovers out there, this corporate event is for you. Benefit launched their new product in the middle of the desert and gave guests an unforgettable experience (and a once-in-a-lifetime photo op). Guests entered into a cave-like room and were able to get their lashes enhanced by the latest product. They received cocktails from a dome-inspired bar and then sat down to enjoy their dinner. Benefit achieved its goal of going “wild wild west” and making this an event that no one would forget.

This rehearsal dinner was the most glamorous way to prepare for the couple’s big day. This celebration was both rustic and chic with a neutral color scheme, wooden chairs, and simplistic pink floral arrangements placed throughout the long reception table. Monochromatic florals and stringed candles suspended from the ceiling transforming this outdoor celebration into the most romantic setting. You could tell every detail was thought out and carefully curated to make for the perfect tablescape.
This elegant dinner party boasted gold décor that made the whole celebration glow with the sun. Chic white linens draped the side of an open pavilion as glamorous white feathers were suspended from the ceiling. Guests sat at lucite-backed chairs while each place setting had matte-black plates and utensils and gold-accented centerpieces. Golden hour had a whole new meaning after this Shabbat diner.
One thing we can agree on in 2020 is that healthcare workers are the real heroes. They are the ones on the front lines of the pandemic. Working tirelessly to treat patients and putting everyone else before themselves, they deserve to feel special. This Mother’s Day, all mothers (as well as doctors, nurses, and patients fighting COVID-19) were celebrated with a beautiful floral décor backdrop. This artistic installation inspired a little positivity and brought a smile to anyone entering the hospital.

While we look back at 2020, a year no one could have predicted or imagined, we have certainly learned a lot. Here, at PartySlate, we learned that you can’t postpone joy. Milestones in life deserve to be celebrated. Whether you celebrate small, celebrate from afar, celebrate virtually, or celebrate soon — it’s important to recognize these meaningful moments in our lives.
We hope these events — some which were celebrated before the pandemic — can bring you joy and inspiration for your future celebrations. PartySlate will always be a platform for party hosts to find venues, event professionals, and inspiration for their gatherings.
By now you know that each year, thousands of gorgeous real events flood PartySlate.com. Our team excitedly scours the newcomers from January to December to spot innovative details and concepts we’ve never seen before.
It’s hard not to love a creative party theme for adults and kids alike, which is why this collection of 17 pre-pandemic parties and social-distanced soirées are some of our new favorites. From bringing back the infamous Fyre Festival to turning a beloved clothing store into a wedding design, prepare to be wowed by the creativity put forth with these ingenious, inventive, and innovative events. They might even spark a new idea of your own.
“Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.” Are we aging ourselves? This backyard birthday party did a brilliant job at bringing a vintage family favorite back to life. From the retro furniture to the eclectic patterns reminiscent of old school wallpaper, this soirée successfully sent waves of nostalgia through our screens with the photos alone. The host family’s rounded pool edges and landscaping just so happen to correspond with typical homes from the 70s (and perhaps even prompted this unique party theme). So kicking off our list is the at-home 50th birthday party that recreated the purest of pure 1970s sitcoms, The Brady Bunch.
Who could forget Billy McFarland and the infamous Fyre Festival of 2017? If you’ve been living under a rock, let us bring you up to speed. Influencers and supermodels alike (unknowingly) promoted a fraudulent, Coachella-like music festival in the Bahamas — and when attendees arrived it was anything but. Pillows were few and far between, and if you thought you were getting a decent meal — forget it. That being said, this remake of the Fyre Festival, which poked fun at the mishaps and debacles that came out of “paradise,” was an easy addition to the list. Except at this one, the booze was flowing, water bottles were abundant, and the cuisine was divine.
We absolutely love a creative Bar or Bat Mitzvah party theme — and when this celebration hit PartySlate.com, it was instantly “Popular” among our team. A few of the many details we’re obsessed with: the mini broom place card holders, the totally enchanted living centerpieces, textured linens that magically brought each table to life, the musical’s famous story line cleverly embedded into menus, and so much more. We can only imagine guests of all ages flocked to the “Wicked”-scrawled dance floor as an upbeat remix to “Defying Gravity” filled the pre-pandemic party room. Speaking of entertainment, this event introduced us to the concept of a “TikTok” booth in place of photo booths, and we can only assume it was a huge hit among the tweens in attendance.
We didn’t think we could love anything more than a magical, garden-inspired wedding. That is, until this “Midnight in the garden of good & evil” reception came along. As you can imagine, guests were treated to plenty of surprises, from a snake charmer to a forbidden forest menu, and more. Dark jewel tones, velvet-lined furniture, and ruby red florals set the mood for a one-of-a-kind celebration. The bride and groom, of course, stole the show sporting oversized wings and glitter masks that radiated whimsy through our screens — and made for the most unique wedding portraits we’ve ever seen.
Yes, we’ve viewed construction-themed kids parties before, but the execution of this birthday’s design was one of the most creative we’ve seen. If you love a good pun, the photos from this backyard bash will delight you, from detailed shots of the gift “dump” to the food signage that will make you want to “dig in.” Signature neon orange filled the space, from construction cone “cups” to corresponding pool floats, centerpieces, and more. Plus, the intricately designed cake pops will blow you away (and they just so happen to be on our list of kids party trends for 2021).
This theme needs no introduction. A progressive dinner party took guests on a trip through The Beatles’ career (we know, it’s brilliant). Guests started the night at a black and white dinner (symbolizing the group’s early days and their iconic promotional photos), and later found themselves at a colorful reception reflective of the group’s wilder era filled with stardom and success. We can’t decide which setting is our favorite, but we will point out the chic record centerpieces that caught our eyes (and our ears) from the start.

Trust us, this is the creative party theme you never knew you needed. Rows of cotton candy-inspired bouquets spun into sky blue and taffy pink linens to create the sweetest of dinner party designs. The backyard celebration’s wispy, whimsical pastel arrangements, twinkling tent, vintage glassware, and heavenly balloon wall melted together into a mesmerizing assortment of shapes, hues, and textures. We never knew an event design could make us crave so much sugar (and it’s not just because of the fluffy passed cotton candy pictured in the event album).
We love when two lobsters get a fairytale ending. This groom-to-be surprised his now fiancé with a Friends-themed proposal. A replica of the show’s iconic Central Perk couch sat in front of a flowing fountain and adjacent a vintage floor lamp — a strikingly familiar setup (see the sitcom’s theme song for reference). No one told us we were gonna cry today, but this couple is winning over our hearts with their adorable (and 2020-approved) milestone moment.
This baby shower did succeed, indeed, at bringing one of our childhood favorites to life. Aside from the design’s swirls and twirls of color, the pastel palette added an extra layer of fun to the backyard bash. The catering alone makes us want to jump into the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss with treats including martini milkshakes (with sprinkle-frosted rims) and fluffy passed whoopie pies. Another reason to love this summer soirée? Upon entry, each guest received a color coded bracelet indicating their comfort level at the social-distanced celebration (an element that just so happens to be on our trends list for 2021).
Okay we’ll admit it, we’re totally jealous of this little girl. She was treated to the perfect backyard birthday bash inspired by her hometown of Miami’s luxe beach clubs (we think Mom and Dad may have had a say in this one). Branded French fries, hair braiding stations, and a mini “totes and sweets” cart are elements we’re adding to our own adult birthday wish list. From the chicest strawberry cake to a private DJ and custom, kid-friendly beverages, this party proves the perfect venue might be closer than you think.
Making a splash without water seemed like an impossible feat — that is, until we laid eyes on this incredibly unique Bat Mitzvah party theme. The guest of honor’s love for a summer soirée shined through thanks to elements like a tennis-inspired cocktail hour activity and pool bag party favors. Our favorite part has to be the LED dance floor and stage backdrop duo, which looked so reminiscent of a sun kissed pool, we can hardly believe guests couldn’t jump in. Other details to admire: The chic blue chandelier with glistening crystals reminiscent of small water droplets, metallic-coated desserts, and a sparkling soda bar.
When we talk about camp, it’s usually synonymous with summer. But this kids birthday party introduced us to camp in a whole new season — and we’re never going back. Traditional plaid linens, plush faux fur throws, evergreen foliage, and a hot apple cider station made this the coziest camp of all. The sweetest part might be the dessert bar, consisting of a snow-dusted birthday cake, mini moose antler-topped confections, and rustic signage bearing cake pops. “River water” bottles with custom plaid coverings and a “supplies station” confirmed that good things come in small (creative) packages.
This bride wanted a wedding inspired by the boho-chic store, Anthropologie. Walk into an Anthro store, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by garments saturated in color, patterns, and texture. The brand’s interior design line is the perfect blend of traditional and boho: two beautiful wedding styles. It’s rare to find a unique wedding theme so thoroughly executed from start to finish, but this celebration managed to do so from the moment the bridal party started getting ready to the newlywed’s grand exit. The bride and her squad got ready in a Victorian home covered in floral-patterned wallpaper and steel blue exteriors. The special women in the bride’s life (from mother to bridesmaids) wore what we would call Anthro-approved gowns — not to mention the groom’s eclectic pink tie. From the venue’s loft-style brick wall to colorful goblet glasses, and delicate, floral-patterned china, we’d agree this wedding was the “epitome of Anthropologie-chic.”

This kids birthday party took two scenes from Beyoncé’s Black Is King film and turned them into absolute birthday magic. The backyard affair was filled with Instagrammable photo ops for all ages, from the tea party’s oversized chess board and living wall, to the matte black balloon installation, floral-adorned throne, and red rose-draped cheetah convertible. The celebration took an innovative approach to safety measures, with a “faux” birthday cake, which preserved the experience of blowing out birthday candles (and saved the real confections from any resulting germs). To this family (and event team, of course) we say a job well done for making a theme out of one of 2020’s most powerful films.
You know we love a rainbow design — but pair it with a 70s theme, and we’re simply over the moon. We’re especially obsessed with the innovative use of florals throughout. To start, the bride accessorized with a baby’s breath hair piece. Each bridesmaid (and the bride herself) carried a monochrome bouquet (consisting of one flower type each). The bride’s crisp white tulips met bunches of sky blue orchids and radiant flamingo lilies, which created one of the most chic and eclectic rainbows we’ve ever seen as the women stood together. As for the reception, a true ROYGBIV arrangement created a mesmerizing centerpiece — and the only reason we’d pull our gaze away from the floral-lined table would be to stare at the dreamy red and white lanterns lighting up the room from above.
Go ahead and take your seat. This outdoor dinner party transported guests to an aviation-inspired experience. Bundles of white hydrangeas formed cloud-like arrangements across the table, while LED-lit globes and twinkling, star-like candles seamlessly took guests from day to night. A “check in” station, passport photo favors, and a suitcase-inspired cake were just a few of the details that make this unique party theme one of our new favorites (and best performing on Instagram).
A modern video game brought to life. We rarely see a Bar Mitzvah with two distinct parties, but this one takes the cake for innovation. Young guests were transported by an on-theme bus to find themselves at a “boot camp” where their real life skills were tested. Following outdoor activities came a perfectly camouflaged reception thanks to patterned linens, menus, and napkins, lounge areas coated in rustic netting, and custom labeled water bottles, among other exciting details.

2020 was a year we’ll never forget. Through all the difficult days, we still managed to appreciate the little things. From Walgreens coming through with oh-so-precious toilet paper, to Dropbox providing seamless collaboration while working from home, and the return of NBA basketball, we’re looking back on the brands and companies that kept us going in 2020 — and highlighting their branded celebrations from years past.
By now, we know that swoop on the side of our packages like we know our own name. While staying safe at home, Amazon was there to deliver all the essentials. From groceries, school supplies, and even quarantine puzzles and games, we couldn’t leave this powerhouse off the list.
Speaking of supplies, by now you may know that Amazon’s back-to-school backyard event is one of our favorites. From two adorable photo ops and celebrity attendees to the chicest display of products, this event is surely one to remember.
Where would we be without the occasional mask-wearing Target run? We’ve all walked through those red-framed doors with a checklist and walked out with plenty of things we definitely didn’t need — and now can’t live without. From holiday decorations to candles, throws, slippers, wall art, and more, we have to thank this brand for sprucing up our homes during the year we needed it most.
So to top off our love for Target, we’re sharing one of its most brilliantly-branded events. From a recognizable logo-shaped bar to products in the shape of, well… targets, we’d say this event was a success from the photos alone.
Seriously though, where would we be without Slack? From the PartySlate team’s daily exchanges of “you have to see these new event photos!” to “we’re waiting for you on Zoom,” we couldn’t work from home without Slacking up a storm each and every day. And yes, the company name is now a frequently-used verb in our vocabulary.
After you Slack your team about this article, go inside the event that blew us away from the moment we saw it. The branding is unparalleled — every inch of the event space was beautifully decked out in the company’s four recognizable hues, from the bar to the bowling alley, food presentations, and even the sauce bottles (talk about dedication).
Working for a photo-rich platform like PartySlate, Dropbox is a tool we hold near and dear to our hearts. With “cloud-like” storage and the ability to easily share large event albums, we couldn’t have efficiently organized the thousands of event photos that were submitted to our team in 2020 without our dear friend Dropbox.
And on the topic of photos, the images from Dropbox’s Curiosity Ball are a true treat. Guests meandered from room to room with no idea what they would stumble upon next, from whimsical moss-covered walls to lavender-lit lounges. When large-scale celebrations return, we can’t wait to see what Dropbox has in store.
Yes, we’ve all ugly cried watching Google’s end-of-year video, smiled with John Krasinski as he debuted his YouTube show Some Good News, frantically searched for presidential election updates, and learned about a virus that would change our world forever. In a year like 2020, the ability to ask questions, discover resources, and find information is one we can’t value enough.
Although Google and YouTube’s corporate holiday party won’t look quite like this striking green and red celebration this year, we know both brands have plenty of fabulous events in their future.
Supporting small businesses while also treating ourselves to a feast on the futon? Say no more. It’s only a slight exaggeration to say we ordered daily food delivery, which shows that DoorDash was our go-to brand when it came to crazy cravings — or simply indulging on a Friday night. With new in-app features and search tools, the platform’s 2020 updates made it easier for consumers to support small and Black-owned businesses. Their mission is to “empower local businesses” — a mission we can proudly support.
If you need help deciding what to get, take a look at their “Dash-a-palooza” holiday party, which of course, brought in an assortment of unique cuisines, from dangling donuts to a make-your-own nachos bar.

How would we have gotten through March without the distracting craze that was Tiger King? And we can’t forget when everyone jumped to order label makers after binging The Home Edit. In 2020, we’re forgiving Netflix for dropping our beloved Friends thanks to new content like The Queen’s Gambit to Big Mouth. They gave us back Gilmore Girls, shared a new season of The Crown, introduced us to the calming nature of The Great British Baking Show, and the list goes on.
So as you prepare for an exciting weekend on the couch, we think you’ll appreciate the photos from Netflix’s throwback soirée — and how their signature orange hue was used in the most mesmerizing ways.
Any brand that gives us more Oscar-winning Nicole Kidman is going to get love from our team. HBO outdid themselves this year with entertainment that took us out of 2020 and into a variety of new worlds, from The Undoing to Euphoria (and even some classics like Entourage and Sex and the City).
HBO Max has big plans on the horizon, and as we patiently (or not so patiently) await the Friends cast reunion and a Gossip Girl reboot, we’ll distract ourselves with one of their many extravagant celebrations. Floral floors, decadent bites, and larger-than-life branding reminds us why this company is so iconic when it comes to events.
We waited all year for our personalized end-of-year round up from Spotify. The platform gives you details on your 2020 listening habits, from your favorite decade of music to your most played artist and the songs you had on literal repeat (raise your hand if Taylor Swift’s Folklore album was all over your list, too).
This brand is clearly in tune with its music-loving consumers, and when it comes to their celebrations, they always hit the mark. Take this 2017 holiday party. From the elongated, LED-lit tables to the neon photo ops, we’d love to be a fly on the wall (or a guest on the dance floor) at one of their future fêtes — and you just know the music will be epic.
If there’s one thing we appreciate most about Pandora, it’s the wonderful assortment of podcasts and playlists you can discover on their platform. The radio-style app is perfect for those of us who don’t want to select each and every tune ourselves, thanks to their curated selections.
It’s no surprise a company that prioritizes a pleasant consumer experience also hosts memorable experiential events around the world. This sleek gathering took place in France at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, and we are so envious of every guest that got to enjoy the breezy bash by the water (with amazing music, nonetheless).
Where do we even begin with TikTok? A launch of fresh-faced teenage influencers, new dance crazes, play-with-your-pet trends, and the introduction of our beloved Blink182 to today’s youth, it’s hard to believe that the social media platform gained popularity just this year. Somehow, minutes turn to hours when flipping through complete strangers’ humorous and heartwarming content — and we’d have it no other way.
It’s no surprise TikTok’s global rebrand launch was filled with creative details and video-worthy backdrops. Plush cotton candy-inspired walls, rows of neon lights, and a chalk board for content creators are just a few of our favorite elements.
You guessed it: Instagram easily made the list. The social media giant helped us stay connected while staying apart. To say that 2020 was hard would be an understatement, but Instagram brought us the content we needed to stay inspired, entertained, and the list goes on. We love following endless accounts, from @tanksgoodnews to @upworthy, which bring smile-worthy content to our daily scroll.
And of course the app’s own events are completely Instagram-worthy themselves — just take one look at this stunning dinner party, and you’ll be convinced the brand was made for event hosting.
In a year where the bar scene was cancelled, many turned to Bumble for precious social interaction. From finding a peer to chat with on BFF (Bumble for Friends) to connecting (and might we add, flirting) with others, the Bumble app kept 2020’s youth safely mingling.
While we wait for the return of this brand’s fun parties, we’re looking back on one of our favorites. The “Winter Bumbleland”-inspired event brought après ski to the desert with “frosted” trees, winter igloos, and a slope-inspired water slide. If anyone knows how to get on the list for this brand’s post-COVID events, please let us know.
By now, every Peloton rider has their favorite instructor, class, and pedaling routine. Cycling reached peak popularity in 2020 and provided an outlet for many while staying at home. Now passionate conversations between fitness gurus have turned from which fitness company’s cycling class you love most to a debate on the most engaging Peloton classes. The at-home machines provide a small sense of normalcy for those who had community-based exercise highly ingrained into their routines.
We love how Peloton hosted a pre-pandemic product launch that took guests to the tropics with Caribbean-inspired décor and branded, ratan swing photo ops. The photos alone have us craving vacation (after a high intensity spin session, of course).
If you’re not familiar with Twitch (a live streaming application for gamers), maybe you know the platform’s star streamer, Ninja (and if you still have no idea what we’re talking about, go ask a younger relative). Twitch has reached peak popularity as professional gamers stream themselves playing the latest video games for those of us quarantined at home.
Kylie Jenner’s famous baby daddy, Travis Scott, drew in millions of viewers in April as he dropped a new song through a virtual Fortnite concert. Not to mention congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, attracted hundreds of thousands to the platform in her live stream of the game Among Us in November. If you didn’t know Twitch, now you do, just in time to check out their annual tech conference after party.
Starbucks kept us caffeinated during quarantine with pickup stations outside of stores across the country. We eagerly await their seasonal beverages, from Pumpkin Spice Lattes to Peppermint Mochas, and we love the brand’s inclusive policies. Starbucks opened its very first US “signing store” in 2018 in Washington, D.C. to support the deaf community, and recently dedicated an Annapolis store to hiring special needs individuals and offering them a space in the workforce.
Although the Starbucks-themed event we’re highlighting wasn’t hosted by the company itself, we think the design’s on-point branding (with a feminine twist) was too good not to include for our coffee-loving friends.
From the tragic loss of beloved Lakers star Kobe Bryant to a Los Angeles championship win in his honor, the NBA reminded us why we love live sports. At the start of the summer, the franchise took the league’s playoffs to what’s now known as “the bubble” in Florida, where they successfully finished their 2019-2020 season. And while basketball revived a sense of passion and entertainment in our homes, players from around the nation also brought a powerful social statement to our screens (sporting jerseys in support of the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement).
From former favorites to current champions including Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard, this launch party was filled with basketball stardom we can only hope to see more of in 2021.
If you’re suddenly a wine connoisseur in 2020, you’re not alone. And by connoisseur, we mean you have gone through too many bottles and brands to count. But Kim Crawford will always be a favorite — and not only because the label has hosted some of the most amazing corporate events.
This launch kicked off the sale of the company’s first rosé bottle, and the details are too good to leave out. From wine-infused popsicles to a literal wall of rosé (and blush florals to match), there’s more than one reason we always come back to this beautifully branded celebration.
Who remembers the early days of 2020, going from store to store in search of hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, and toilet paper? Walgreens was one that always had our backs, with supplies in stock and safely social-distanced service. Every year, Walgreens dedicates a “Red Nose Day” to giving back to children in need.
Their philanthropic efforts are going virtual, but in years past they came with beautiful events like this crisp and clean gathering that boasted a few catchy hashtags — and a lot of sleek red and white décor.
ABC shows are basically scheduled into our 2020 weekly routines. From an audience-less season of Dancing With the Stars (with their highest ratings ever, hello quarantine), to casting their first-ever black lead on The Bachelor (long overdue), their reality shows have our attention like never before.
If you’re not currently watching Tayshia steal numerous men’s hearts (along with our own) on The Bachelorette, or excitedly replaying the trailer for Matt James’ new season of The Bachelor, you might not appreciate this red rose-filled premiere as much as we do. Nonetheless, the floral photo backdrop is truly a stunning sight.
