PartySlate Wows in LA With an Exclusive Members-Only Event in a Private West Hollywood Estate

On Tuesday, October 25, PartySlate gathered esteemed members for an exclusive cocktail party for networking and fun. The venerable Nick Gentile of Nick Gentile Events planned and designed the soirée which brought together Los Angeles’ top event industry professionals at LA Wheelhouse, a luxurious private estate in West Hollywood.

Gentile worked with the creatives at XO Bloom to evoke the luxury and warm terracotta hues of the estate’s formal dining room into the mansion’s party décor.

A Glimpse of the Evening to Come

The party’s invitation, custom-designed by Ceci New York, also paid homage to the estate’s chic décor. The print and invitation designer set an elegant tone with a textured umber invitation that was inspired by both the rich orange velvet in the dining room as well as the estate’s own wheel logo. That rich hue tied the celebration’s aesthetic together.

The Ceci New York team also created the party’s printed materials to showcase and honor event partners.

Design: Marvelous Marigold

Guests entered the gathering via a winding path through a dreamy lantern-lit courtyard. XO Bloom infused the estate with dramatic pops of orange. From the bright marigolds framing the PartySlate brick wall-inspired photo spot to the upended roses suspended from the trees, the warm hue added interest and beauty. XO continued the lush look with vivid arrangements throughout the party.

The Hollywood Hills mansion setting featured an epic pool and patio festooned with string lights from Distinctive Event Solutions that lit up the crisp fall evening. Its pool featured floating letters from Step and Repeat LA that spelled out “PartySlate” across the water. Drifting bright blooms spilled into the pool like a floral waterfall — making the patio into the perfect Instagrammable spot.

Further elevating the affair were truly unique candles from Vogue Candles. Vogue offered us an eco-conscious way to bring romantic flickering flames to our soirée with towering hurricane glass featuring all-white plant-based wax granules that safely — and beautifully — burned all evening.

Partygoers lounged in swanky outdoor spaces outfitted by Found Rental Co. Their brass and cream hightops, oversized lanterns, and gorgeous DJ booth and sushi bar added to the luxe vibe. Patterned and solid pillows in apricot and melon accented the seating areas, completing the chic color story of the event.

Entertainment: The Perfect Spin

It’s not easy to curate music that’s perfect for networking and connecting with each other, but also for creating a trendy vibe that fits a Los Angeles gathering. DJ Lady Sha managed to do both with style. Distinctive Event Solutions lent a hand by ensuring that all of the party’s AV and lighting needs were met, considering both the event size and sound to produce a seamless experience.

Guests also loved the interactive entertainment provided by an of-the-moment photobooth from LA Photo Party. Their “slow motion” booth recorded five-second video clips of partygoers dancing, strutting, jumping — and, in general, having a blast — in a tunnel of vertical fluorescent lights. The clips were transformed into ultra slow-motion videos instantly uploadable for partygoers to compare and share. LA Photo Party also captured guests on-the-fly with their roaming photobooth.

Fresh Fare: Sushi & Slingers

By The Way Catering Co. curated a menu of tray-passed appetizers and stations that delighted with fresh flavor. Their thoughtful fare included bites like cauliflower arancini (a healthier take on the Italian staple), a pizza grazing station, and a Tuscan buffet with trenette al pesto, pea and fennel salad, and more.

Toward the end of the evening, By The Way Catering Co. brought out their own take on late-night bites: juicy turkey burger “slingers” that our team is still talking about days later. One version featured smoky chipotle flavors while the other boasted their special sauce.

Meanwhile, Masa Sushi offered a full spread of fresh-from-the-ocean bites. Their friendly sushi chefs served spicy salmon, tuna, and toro on crispy-rice, yellowtail, scallop, and more nigiri, along with delectable rolls and sashimi. Guests oohed and aahed over the clean and creative flavors, as well as the warmth of their team.

And what’s a party without a signature cocktail? LA’s Cocktail Academy over-delivered with two custom drinks: “clover club” with gin, vermouth, and a raspberry foam that matched our party’s colorway, and “cafe colada” which combined absinthe, coffee, and coconut for an uncommon sip. The cocktails were accented with fresh herbs and edible florals as well as chic stirrers from Acrylic Sticks, who created two styles of the wheels that signified the venue’s branding.

Our every-event partner MY DRAP provided custom, eco-friendly cocktail napkins with PartySlate’s logo and the venue’s wheel graphics printed in the event’s signature orange.

All of the Memories Made (& Captured)

This was an evening worth remembering, and the skilled team at Chris J Evans Photography beautifully captured the soirée. They shot rich candid pictures of guests interacting and having fun, perfectly-posed pics in front of the PartySlate backdrop, as well as photos of the bright and fun scene.

Moving images from the Siren & Co also told the story of the celebration with a video that will remind the guests of their good time (and will make those who weren’t there — wish they were).

And More Thanks

Producing a thoughtful celebration like PartySlate’s latest Los Angeles gathering requires a talented team of partners. We’d like to offer our sincere thanks to BreLuxe Beauty who ensured that our team looked our best. They made us all feel party-ready with on-point hair and makeup styling.

We would like to extend additional gratitude to The London West Hollywood whose luxurious guest rooms ensured that our well-traveled team was comfortable and well-rested.

Which vendors do I need for private dining in Los Angeles?

Before you begin to assemble your vendor list, you need to know which services your private dining venue will provide. Many restaurants will have an onsite events team to help facilitate your event.

Next steps? We always recommend hiring an event planner. Smaller celebrations like rehearsal dinners, baby showers, milestone birthday parties, and other celebrations with lower guest counts can still benefit from an experienced event planner. Hiring an event planner takes a huge part of the planning process (as well as day-of coordination) off your shoulders. This way, you can actually be present and enjoy your celebration.

While your needs may vary depending on the size of your event, we always recommend enlisting the services of the following vendors for an unforgettable celebration:

To take your event to the next level, we also suggest hiring an entertainment company. While you might not need a 12-piece band, your guests will appreciate engaging acts such as DJs, photo booths, immersive activities, and more. Lastly, consider hiring a videographer to capture the most important moments of your celebration. You’ll be happy to have video footage in addition to a beautiful event album.

What is the best month to have an outdoor wedding?

September and October tend to be the most popular months to get married in Los Angeles. While the weather in Los Angeles is beautiful year-round, these autumn months boast comfortable temperatures and less crowds.

Couples should keep in mind that venue prices and availability will reflect the popularity of the season. Consider less popular months to widen your venue options. We do, however, suggest avoiding the rainy season of January and February for an outdoor wedding celebration

Event Industry Luminaries Travel From Near & Far for PartySlate’s Glamorous 7th-Anniversary Celebration in Los Angeles

On Wednesday, April 27, PartySlate hosted an epic anniversary party full of wow-worthy entertainment, unique fare, and a no small amount of Old Hollywood glam. The top professionals in the events industry traveled from all over to gather in Los Angeles and toast atop the W Hollywood hotel. The buzzed-about evening was concepted and curated by a duo of skilled event designers and planners Charley Izabella King of Bluebell Events and Thomas Bui of Thomas Bui Lifestyle, and brought to life with beautiful (and over-the-top) details by Eddie Zaratsian of Eddie Zaratsian Lifestyle & Design.

King’s vision for the gathering was driven by her background with musicals on Broadway and in London. She says, “I really wanted the evening to be heavy on entertainment — to have unannounced surprise performances every 15 minutes.” Guests were wowed by the nonstop showmanship. King shares that the evening also paid tribute to “late and great talents like Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire who lived the Hollywood dream.”

The Hollywood dream-themed celebration took a nod from its setting and was inspired by the ending of the movie Pretty Woman. Nowhere is a “What’s Your Dream?” fête more perfectly-placed than in Los Angeles, where hopefuls come from the world over to chase their dreams. Julie Roth Novack, Co-Founder and CEO of PartySlate, shares, “The theme holds personal meaning for me as well. For years, I dreamed out loud about my vision for PartySlate. Seven years ago, I took the leap into the unknown. I’m proud to share that today we help people around the world celebrate the moments that matter and create life-long memories.”

A Glimpse of the Evening to Come

Guests were invited to PartySlate’s anniversary celebration via a luxe digital invitation, custom created for the gathering by Wiley Valentine. Wiley invoked the glamour of the gathering with flowing gold lettering paired with a chic black and scarlet palette inspired by the upcoming celebration. The team also created the party’s printed materials directing guests and honoring event partners.

Design & Décor: Red Carpet & Gilded Glamour

Top Los Angeles planners, Charley Izabella King of Bluebell Events and Thomas Bui of Thomas Bui Lifestyle worked hand-in-hand with the uber-talented Eddie Zaratsian of Eddie Zaratsian Lifestyle & Design. Zaratsian re-imagined the gorgeous W Hollywood’s The Loft and WET Deck spaces as a vintage Hollywood dreamscape set against the glittering hills of Los Angeles.

Partygoers arrived and walked a lush red carpet from Absolutely Fabulous Events flanked by two kitschy paparazzi who asked for poses and complimented guests’ dapper duds (the gathering was “black tie optional,” after all). The paparazzi duo from Fortune Entertainment made guests laugh as they strolled past cool custom “Hollywood Walk of Fame” stars displaying the names of the epic event’s vendor partners from Gift of Fame Enterprises.

Before heading to the rooftop, guests struck one more pose against a black-and-white PartySlate-branded backdrop with look-alike talents Susan Griffiths as Marilyn Monroe and Ben Cornish as Leonardo DiCaprio. A trio of stunning gold mannequins from Oh Mannequin! & All Things Visual flanked the entrance outfitted in the most glamorous gowns from fashion designer Rminé. Rminé designs custom beautiful and bold wedding and evening gowns from her Los Angeles design boutique.

More design delights awaited guests as they entered into the party. Thousands of rich ruby red roses from FiftyFlowers cascaded down and around the hallway leading partygoers into the loft space, with its open space and stunning views. Quest Events draped the space in burgundy velvet with gold tassel accents, a nod to Hollywood’s movie palace past.

Further outfitting the space were modern-glam black and gold high tables from Town & Country Event Rentals and ruby-red lacquer tables from MTB Event Rentals, offering places for guests to connect and dine on the fabulous fare.

Memorable Menu: Creative Fare, Served in Unique Ways

Luxe Linen provided the rich red velvet table coverings for all of the soireé’s tables, including the “glamorous grazing station.” The trend has gone on long enough that we can no longer say that “charcuterie is having a moment” — it’s now a bona fide must-have for stylish gatherings. And no one does it better than This Messy Table LA who created levels and levels of curated bites, accented by a floral arch.

Good Gracious! Events graced PartySlate’s anniversary with their signature style of creative fare. The team amazed guests with a “noodle wall,” consisting of gold containers filled with lemongrass shrimp, spicy tofu, or chicken noodles — all hung at angles for a delightful vision that was easy to self-serve. Additionally, the team tied their fare to the dreamy theme by preparing “clouds of cupcakes” against a blue sky backdrop. The cupcakes surprised with their savory flavors: beef bourguignon and cheesy yellow lentil ratatouille (both topped with creamy clouds of duchess potatoes).

Another show-stopping element was the seemingly miles-long dessert table. Joanie & Leigh Cakes baked up a dessert spread that featured chic branded moments (PartySlate cookies that tasted as good as they looked) and surprises (a bubble-filled bathtub that was actually cake).

Partygoers also enjoyed a whiskey lounge area outfitted with a towering custom PartySlate-branded ice luge (yes, you read that right) and branded ice cubes from Ice Bulb. The cool sculpture chilled drinks in a stylish way. AQUAhydrate wetted whistles with electrolyte-enhanced water.

Additionally, W Hotel bars served up wine, beer, and party-perfect “Hollywood Old Fashioned” drinks and smoky mezcal cocktails — that actually smoked. W Hotel also offered passed bites featuring Hollywood accents like mini pita crackers cut into star shapes with flavorful toppings and an always-busy seared tuna station (blowtorch included).

Entertainment: Interactive Moments, Unique Acts  & One Amazing Crooner

PartySlate’s company anniversary party featured talked-about entertainment at every turn.

Musical Performances

DJ MisterE took guests on a musical and visual journey with deep-cuts from his video vault, all inspired by Hollywood history. Guests enjoyed the tunes on an iconic LED dance floor from Distinctive Event Solutions

Cirque Berzerk Productions’ Drag Queen MC gathered all partygoers around with some fun banter before handing the mic over to the party’s host, planners, and décor lead. Their welcome words ended with dramatic flair as cold fireworks from The Lighter Side created a spectacle. In between the fireworks, on the deck’s second floor overlooking the celebration, were graphic marquee letters spelling out “PartySlate” from Alpha-Lit

Then Mr. Chris Norton took the stage for an epic set that evoked the glamour of days-gone-by with songs from Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Prince, and more. His 14-piece band accompanied his signature showmanship, walking through the crowd to serenade lucky guests.

Interactive Moments

Magic Castle magician HUBB Magic kept guests mesmerized while they rode the elevator to the rooftop. A-Max Entertainment greeted guests at the rooftop with a Fred Astaire-inspired tap dancer that set the tone for the entertainment to come. The team also made good use of the W Hotel rooftop pool with Marilyn Monroe-inspired mermaids floating on clamshells serving Champagne to passers-by.

Meanwhile, Official Kiss Print Reader provided lipstick readings (predictions made from examining a lipstick print). And, in addition to making the entire PartySlate team party-ready with perfect hair and makeup, Domenica Beauty offered a “Glam Station” with makeup touches, fluttery lashes, and even a new hairstyle for party guests. Gift of Fame Enterprises curated a selfie station that allowed each guest to become a star, complete with a Hollywood backdrop.

Zaratsian worked with Pixster Photo Booth to create a hidden 360-photo opportunity complete with four sides of drapery from Quest Events, florals, and PartySlate signage. Guests perched on a platform while a camera zoomed around them, capturing a unique clip, perfect for remembering the moment and/or posting on social media.

Unique Acts

Guests were also treated to a breathtaking fire dance show and choreographed dance act from Cirque Berzerk Productions. A-Max Entertainment took us back in time with a Fred and Ginger-inspired routine.

Encore Global helped pull off every act with ease by providing AV and production services, allowing guests to be immersed in full sound and visuals played on several screens and projected on multiple walls. Town & Country Event Rentals provided the staging from which each act wowed.

All the Memories Made (& Captured)

This was an evening worth remembering and the inimitable team at John & Joseph obliged with gorgeous candid images of guests sharing a moment, as well as pictures of breathtaking décor. Meanwhile, Custom Made Productions captured the soirée in beautiful, moving detail — including drone footage which will show the rooftop soirée in all its glory — for the totally-stunning video that will remind us of our good time.

6 Los Angeles Caterers With Crave-Worthy Offerings During COVID-19

Eating delicious cuisine just got a whole lot easier. While parties and milestone events slowly return, six of Los Angeles’s top caterers are continuing to reinvent the notion of at-home fine dining with their exclusive catering menus for pickup or delivery.

Without a doubt, COVID-19 forced caterers to think outside the box and reimagine their offerings. As 24 Carrots Catering and Events shared in the early stages of the pandemic, “In a time like this, we find the best in us, and the best in each other . . . How we do it is a little different for now, but with the help of amazing clients and wonderful community, we’re still delivering what 24 Carrots is known for – phenomenal food and exceptional service.”

In addition to providing an online market place, Good Gracious! Events met the times by providing over 5,000 meals per week to the Children’s Hospital of LA. As they shared on their website, “Our culinary team has come together to make this happen curating delicious, healthy, and freshly prepared lunch and dinner for the hospital staff, doctors, and nurses.”

Sourced Craft Cocktails brought the work-time happy hour back by hosting a streamed experience where employees could order the cocktails of their choice and have them delivered to their homes. Sourced Craft Cocktails shared, “This program benefits local bartenders by putting them to work delivering your cocktails across NYC, Austin, Dallas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, and 5% of each order goes to the US Bartenders Guild relief fund to help support bartenders on a national scale.”

Those words still ring true today, even as we are evolving past lockdown. And while we are happy that we aren’t in the same restrictive position we were then, we are still loving all of the at-home fine dining options still available to us.

So whether you put on a cocktail dress for a virtual Zoom dinner party with friends — or don a pair of comfy pajamas for a gourmet-take on the traditional TV dinner — check out these six LA catering companies. It’s not every day that you get to eat like you’re at a Black-Tie event.

Los Angeles, CA

  • This Messy Table LA was created by accident, when owner Kabrel Geller was having her friends over for a cocktail party and arranged her usual charcuterie platter; during the hour before the guests arrived, she was inspired and added an assortment of overflowing cornucopia that included organic fruits, crisp veggies, nuts, chocolates, syrup, honeys, and more
  • At this gathering, she created her version of a “messy table” — and her friends immediately began requesting that she make them for their parties, so This Messy Table LA was born
  • This Messy Table LA wants you to bring a crowd favorite to Thanksgiving, without having to do all the work; they can specialize your charcuterie board based on specific diets or make them kid friendly
  • Due to the pandemic, they are now offering the same boards, but reproducing them in a box that comes with all the ingredients needed to make your board (and even fresh flowers)
  • Good news for planet-lovers: The box is sustainable, recyclable, and delivered straight to your doorstep (perfect for guiltless Thanksgiving catering)

This Fairytale Wedding Twisted Tradition with Cannabis-Studded Florals, Custom Velvet Sneakers, & Vodka That Transformed Into Gin

Once Upon a Time in Las Vegas

Every love story has a beginning. For Sarah and Brent, it began almost 13 years ago in Las Vegas — a fantastical city built on glamour and imagination. It didn’t take long for the two to develop a strong connection. Sarah, a successful Las Vegas business woman known as “the Sorceress,” possessed a unique ability to help friends find insight into their true beings. As the owner of Coterie, the clothing boutique at the center of Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s “Downtown Project,” she knew Brent was destined for big things. She gave Brent the initial seed money to start his career as a cannabis entrepreneur. With the help of his brother Barry, Brent formed Tradecraft Farms, a family-owned cultivator and purveyor of cannabis and cannabis products.

For the next 12 years, Brent’s cannabis-based business continued to grow throughout Oklahoma, Los Angeles, and Vista, California — with products sold nationwide via retailers. At the same time, the two fell deeper and deeper in love. In addition to having two beautiful children with Sarah (and another on the way), Brent has long been a father to Sarah’s son from her first marriage. While pregnant with Ivy, the couple decided it was finally time to tie the knot. Having already once walked down the aisle, Sarah knew that she wanted a wedding that portrayed the magic of her life with Brent. With a focus on throwing a great party (with a wedding ceremony thrown into the mix), they began to plan their wedding day.

A Vision is Born

From the beginning, Sarah knew that she wanted to host her wedding at The Houdini Estate in Laurel Canyon — she had visited the venue early in her pregnancy with Ivy and booked it on the spot. She envisioned something “magical and unexpected.” Eschewing traditional summer-wedding color palettes and décor, Sarah imagined a scene that was both theatrical and sumptuous. With a vision forming in her mind, she knew it was time to find her wedding planner.

Bespoke wedding planner David Pressman of David Pressman Events received a message on his website from Sarah. She explained how she hoped “to create an evening of magic under a full moon” and make her guests “feel that they stepped into another realm.” The planner and bride-to-be met, and after four hours of talking and developing a close bond, Sarah knew that David could transform her dreams into reality.

By the time they met with Wanda Wen of Soolip to decide on Save-the-Dates, Sarah and David had decided on the “look” of the celebration. As David shares, that meant “a deep, moody color palette with unexpected floral specimens.” Dried flowers and cornucopias of fresh fruits would go hand-in-hand with natural mosses, hanging vines, and green amaranthus.

The Not-So-Secret Ingredient

They also knew that the wedding celebration would pay homage to the thriving cannabis market across California — with floral designs and consumable products grown at Tradecraft Farms. To safely incorporate cannabis into the celebration, David understood that communication with guests had to start from the very beginning. For Sarah and Brent, that began with their save-the-date cards and invitation suites.

Beige envelopes made from Kraft paper evoked the dime bags of the 70s, while maple leaves gave a subtle nod to cannabis leaves. Other beautiful details included custom wax seals (with an elegant horse imprint) and velvet-wrapped metal cards — a foreshadowing of the animal motifs and velvet Curry-colored linen with gold-silk Shantung napkins by La Tavola Fine Linen that would be featured throughout the wedding reception.

Perfectly-Hued Cannabis Florals

While most people think of Cannabis as a product, it is also a lavish plant — beautiful in its own right. David found subtle ways to incorporate cannabis into the wedding décor, starting with bouquets and boutonnieres that featured a mix of cannabis flowers and buds in a hue grown specifically for the celebration. Sarah chose a particular strain to produce the desired color palette. Sarah also showed David how to trim the flowers and remove the stalks from each plant. A few days before the wedding, David met with the grower to gather fresh cannabis plants from Tradecraft Farms and deliver them straight to the florist — eschewing the need for any refrigeration that would affect the fragrance.

In addition to the beautiful floral arrangements featured throughout the ceremony and dinner reception, Owner of Lilla Bello Toby Kassoy also designed bouquet and boutonnieres that fused cannabis with traditional blooms. The toss bouquet showcased dried cannabis and dried roses, creating a combination of soft and moody tones. Brent’s boutonniere — switched mid-day for freshness — boasted black Scabiosa buds, seeded eucalyptus, and rubicon spray rose bud.

A Kid-Friendly Celebration

When it came to integrating consumable cannabis products into the celebration, David used the same degree of sensitivity that he uses for tackling any wedding matter. “A lack of clear, unambiguous communication with guests,” he says, “can turn any wedding celebration into a disaster — with or without cannabis products.” From the beginning, Sarah and David decided to “kid-proof” the celebration by not mixing cannabis with any other food items. David shares, “That meant cake or anything that might catch the eye of a child who would have no reason not to eat something that looked tasty.”

A Magical Concoction

To create the cocktail menu, David reached out to CEO and Chief Liquidizer Claudine Kielson of Scarlette Bartending, home to Laboratory by Scarlette. In the end, Sarah chose to feature a specialty “Apple Bong Sour” cocktail, as well as a full-spectrum of CBD-infused tinctures. Guests also had the option of indulging in THC elixirs, crafted from Tradecraft Farm products — as well as visiting an experiential station that transformed vodka into gin with the help of Japanese coffee siphons. Cannabis herbs and a CBD-infused “Butterfly Pea Pod Tea Tincture” were available upon request.

Thoughtful Planning & an Imaginative Dining Experience

As guests arrived at The Houdini Estate for a pre-ceremony cocktail hour, with tray-passed hors d’oeuvres and custom cocktails, Fifth Avenue Gospel Choir performed against a backdrop of luxuriant summer foliage. Staff made sure that no one was given an infused drink without their knowledge and that all finished cocktail glasses were immediately cleared. This vigilance continued with the post-ceremony cocktail hour and sit-down dinner crafted by Jennifer Naylor Catering and Special Events and inspired by the fantastical dining scene in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”

The Clock Strikes Midnight

As soon as dinner ended, guests received a take-away gift of 2oz infusion gift bottles called “The Last Word” — with custom-designed labels signed by Sarah and Brent. Guests were then whisked away in Uber SUVs to Kimpton La Peer Hotel for a rooftop dance party. Midnight approached, and the fairytale continued with an adult-only afterparty in the Courtyard Bar until 2AM, where guests had the option of enjoying stick.e.vape pens in a designated vape-friendly smoking area.

A Planner With a Few Surprises

Of course, as David reminds us, “Whether it’s a cannabis wedding or not, it’s the personalized details and thoughtful planning that distinguish a bespoke celebration.” For David, that meant going the extra mile from the moment that he began planning the wedding. David’s intuition and knack for understanding his clients means he was able to find the perfect event partners for Sarah and Brent on the first try.

Knowing that a motif of horses and snakes would be present throughout the celebration, David began collecting on-theme napkin rings — then secretly ordered uniform rings from China as a surprise for Sarah. Additionally, he surprised Sarah by having the Fifth Avenue Gospel Choir learn a beloved song for her recessional. Other special details included finding the perfect pair of new Varvatos suede boots from David’s own closet and having custom-velvet sneakers with embroidered monograms designed for Brent and his two brothers. As David confides, “Now, more than ever, it’s important to have fun with people.”

Material from Sarah’s customized gown was transformed into a chic dress for daughter Ivy — while sons Jack and Noah wore whimsical floral-print suits.
