Private Dining in Boston Just Got Better — 19 Spots You Need to Know

Private dining in Boston has never been hotter. Food lovers around the world are taking notice of this city upon a hill. Beyond the red-brick Freedom Trail and various other landmarks steeped in history, you’ll find a thriving and innovative dining scene.

PartySlate sat down with some of Boston’s top event planners for insider tips on where to host a food-forward fête. With an eye for both room configuration and menu curation, event planners know what to look for — and the best spots to find it.

Wedding planner Phoebe Allen of AE Events tells us that private dining celebrations are perfect for “the people who want to prioritize their menu and atmosphere.” She adds, “Restaurants have already worked really hard to create their environment. These types of spaces already come with beautiful rentals. You don’t have to bring in things like lighting, for example.”

Additionally, a private dining space creates an intimate feel. “It’s sort of like hosting a dinner party in your home instead of renting out an entire event space,” Allen tells us.

From French menus to quintessential New England cuisine, these 19 restaurants with private rooms in Boston (or full-restaurant buyouts) offer a feast worth celebrating. Book your private dining event now to impress your close friends, clients, or employees.

We are passionate about mentoring the new generation of women in the events industry, guiding new planners and other creatives to a more transparent and business-like environment. Earlier this year, we launched our sister brand Mavinhouse Events. Mavinhouse Events is bringing a unique approach to wedding planning with an efficient and prescriptive model that complements the lives of busy millennial couples. We assembled and continue to mentor a team of expert planners, each with a diverse background in the industry and a shared commitment to excellence. Couples are offered transparent pricing through three partnership levels, accessibility and authenticity from the start — giving them control (and peace of mind) in a way they’ve never had before. Mavinhouse Events plans and designs weddings and celebrations throughout New England, Rhode Island, Cape Cod, and the New York region.

We have offices in both Boston and NYC, which means we often have clients who live in NYC and get married in Boston (or vice versa). It allows us to do meetings in person in one city while having a team on the ground to work with the venue and vendors in the other. We also frequently plan destination weddings and are available for travel worldwide.

We excel in personalizing and branding every event to the specific client — whether a corporation or a couple. For example, there was a set of three sisters for whom we had the pleasure of planning all of their weddings — each about two years apart from one another. We’ve never done that before! Each sister has such a different personality. We created three weekends for this family that were completely unique experiences, branded to suit each couple. The most recent bride was married at the Omni Mt. Washington Hotel in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. This wedding was very rich, velvety, and calm —with fireplaces, yoga in the morning, and snow capped mountains in the distance. The middle bride married at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. This wedding was a PARTY with crystals, sparkle, and tons of dancing. The first bride married at the family’s private home on Attitash Mountain in Bartlett, New Hampshire. This wedding had a completely boho-chic vibe: organic, tented, teepees and dream catchers.

Throughout the planning process, it is our job to help our clients celebrate each moment of the journey — not simply the wedding day! One of the most unique things that we offer is a guided tour of the New England Flower Exchange, so each couple can curate their wedding floral design and color scheme. We call this our “Market Visit.” We do not believe in making you select your wedding flowers from a book. After 10 years in the floral industry, our co-founder Moira Thomspon came up with a unique philosophy to get to know each couple personally: take couples to the Market and show them the beautiful variety Mother Nature has to offer. She takes each of our couples to the market to curate their wedding day florals — noting which blossoms they gravitate towards, favorite shades and textures, and which blooms make them the happiest! Our couples continuously tell us that market visit stands out as one of the most fun experiences in the entire planning process.

We also love creating at least one magical, unexpected moment at every event! Some examples from past events include: A rose bar before the ceremony, a flower crown bar for guests during the reception, pedicab rides around the venue, stunning floral installations vs. traditional centerpieces, surprise dancers to get the crowds going, even a parade led by a New Orleans style 2nd line band bringing guests around the block!

PartySlate Transported Top Event Professionals to 70s-Era Tokyo With Its Edgy Boston Launch Party

On October 15, PartySlate launched its 14th city in Boston with a retro-70s Tokyo-inspired party, introducing New England’s elite event professionals and tastemakers to the modern marketing platform. The bold, eclectic vision — especially fun in a town known for its rich history and tradition — was planned and produced by the skilled teams at Mavinhouse Events and TYGER | Event Design + Production in the rock ‘n’ roll-style dining space at Hojoko. This dream event team curated a celebration filled with edgy design and innovative activations.

Guests, who were donned in “street-style chic” as instructed by the hip neon invitations by Gus & Ruby Letterpress, enjoyed an evening of creative cocktails, delicious bites, and great conversation. Hojoko, a groovy Japanese tavern attached to music-inspired The Verb Hotel, provided the perfect backdrop for the celebration, with its velvet-seated lounge spots, Asian-inspired graffiti, and concrete walls. Mavinhouse Events planned a perfect guest experience in the unique space, beginning with a warm welcome by drag artists, qweentoast and Akira Oni, and a branded PartySlate photo op.

TYGER conjured a glamorous and gritty Asian underground vibe with gold and silver mirrored draping, red uplighting, and glittering disco balls. Modern rose-gold highboy tables were outfitted with gorgeous cloches holding bright red florals and hand-painted ceramic origami cranes. Mavinhouse and TYGER saw to every detail, including outfitting the pool deck with luxe lounge areas and Japanese lanterns glowing red.

Cool neon letterpress menus on mini clipboards from Gus & Ruby let guests know they were in for a tasty evening, with party-perfect passed “munchies”  like hamachi poke, shrimp toast, and tsukune chicken meatballs. Sushi chefs turned out delectable maki rolls, which the TYGER team served with creative, authentic Tokyo style via their signature cocktail conveyor belt which emerged from an eye-catching PartySlate-branded backdrop. Guests also plucked mini cocktails from the conveyor — a fun experience and perfect boomerang photo spot all in one.

Proving that Hojoko’s skilled chefs can create any type of cuisine, later in the evening, sushi was replaced by cheeseburger sliders and crispy French fries. Throughout the event, the venue’s mixologists served up fresh and innovative cocktails. Guests sipped on fun concoctions like Tokyo Tea (a mix of tequila, lemon, bittered midori, and green tea) and a new take on a Dark ‘n Stormy (Hojoko-spiced rum blend, ginger, and lime).  Meanwhile, a courtyard bar served up sake poolside.

As with any good party, music made the evening more fun. A DJ from Élan Artists spun on-theme tunes ranging from pop remixes to disco-era classics, and moderated the perfect mood for partygoers all evening — even an hour after the party ended as guests continued talking and toasting. Mavinhouse Events ensured that the locale, design, cuisine, and ambiance flowed seamlessly for an experience that partygoers would talk about long after.

When guests finally did leave, they took with them the perfect keepsake: mini pink metallic disco ball keychains with a tag — also created by Gus & Ruby — listing the evening’s top-notch event team. Ensuring the evening was not quickly forgotten were the photo and video teams. Henry + Mac Photo Co. captured dreamy images of happy guests, as well as the gorgeous décor and fare, which was no easy task in the moodily low-lit soirée. Meanwhile, StopGoLove expertly shot both video interviews and the happening scene as it unfolded.

PartySlate continues its rapid expansion with planned launches in New Orleans, Orlando, and Las Vegas on the horizon. The platform — a way for luxury event professionals and venues to beautifully highlight their work and connect with party hosts and each other — is also growing with elevated features that better allow hosts to build their event teams and save and share their inspiration.
