26 Futuristic and Space-Themed Party Ideas [Photos]

It goes without saying, futuristic and space-themed party ideas will never be passé. Whether we are binge-watching The Mandalorian (yes, it’s on Disney+ right now) or reading about the latest mission to Mars, the thrill of future worlds constantly beckons. If space is a blank canvas, our imaginations are the paintbrushes.

As the world wrestles with uncertainty, and the endless news cycle often feels more science fiction than fact, we continue to look to the event industry — one of the most innovative industries in the country — for inspiration.

Planner and event designer Annie Lee of Daughter of Design and PLANNIE, along with many other talented vendors, recently produced PartySlate’s “out-of-this-world” Miami industry gathering. Guests enjoyed an LED entranceway, iridescent backdrops, and robotic stilt performers. Needless to say, we love a futuristic party theme.

These 26 futuristic and space-themed party ideas not only remind us of the endless creativity of event planners and designers — they have us dreaming of celestial landscapes and new lifeforms.

So whether you are looking to host a corporate holiday party with LED robots or throw a Bar Mitzvah with Virtual Reality stations, the possibilities are endless. Without a doubt, your imagination is the “final frontier.”

C’mon Barbie, Let’s Go Party — 18 Barbiecore Party Ideas

It’s been called an interior design trend by Homes & Gardens, a fashion trend by CNN, and a “trending aesthetic” by Who What Wear — but PartySlate is here to tell you that Barbiecore is also a fun party theme.

The flirtatiously fun fad is fueled by pink, pink and, you guessed it, more pink. The trend isn’t the hue of your grade-school eraser or carnival cotton candy; rather it is the hot pink of the neon-drenched 80s. It is both monochromatic and over-the-top. Think exaggerated proportions, lots of glitter, and luxurious details that would make Barbie herself pink with envy.

When planning a Barbie theme party, just ask yourself, “What would Barbie do?” and let the plastic princess be your guide. Plus, we’re here to help with fab ideas — from a wow-worthy entrance to cool party favors.

1. Make an Entrance Like an Icon

Impress your guests from the start with an entrance that wows. Think pink. Balloons, flowers, and drapery set a luxe tone from the very beginning.

What are some things I should consider when planning my destination winery wedding?

Our Senior Events Manager, Kylie, notes a few things to remember while planning your winery wedding: “You’re not there in person — obviously that’s the point of a destination winery wedding, but it can make planning a bit tricky. Hire a planner who can be your local expert and boots on the ground.

“Remember: Book early! Smaller destination markets means local vendors, venues, and hotels will be in high demand.”

Bridget Flynn, Lead Planner and Founder of Bridget Mary Weddings & Events, comments, “Guest transportation is key for a destination winery wedding.

“If guests are traveling all this way, I highly recommend having shuttles to bring guests to and from the hotel, ceremony location, and reception location. If you want to be extra kind, arrange shuttles to the airport the day after the wedding.”

Should I host a winery wedding?

Our Senior Email Marketing Manager, Chelsea, eloped in The Douro Valley of Portugal in 2022. She spoke about her decision of having a destination winery elopement, saying, “We weren’t specifically looking for a winery wedding, but knew we wanted to have an intimate elopement in a beautiful, relaxing location. Six Senses Douro Valley ended up being the perfect venue because a winery is all about slowing down, taking the time to appreciate nature’s bounty, and celebrating together. The gorgeous backdrop of the vineyards did the heavy lifting as the décor during the ceremony and allowed us to feel more in the moment.

“My favorite detail was that once my husband and I exchanged the vows we wrote, we sealed them up, along with a bottle of port wine from the winery, bottled the year we met, inside of a wooden wine box to open in 5 years on our ‘wood anniversary.’

“Another fun element was when the resort’s sommelier personally made us port tonics, my new favorite drink, during our cocktail hour.” These special details made it a no-brainer for Chelsea and her husband to choose a destination vineyard for their nuptials.

Flynn, of Bridget Mary Weddings & Events, explains, “Winery weddings are perfect for out of town guests who want to explore the area while they are only there for the weekend. You are automatically creating an experience for your guests, while also supporting a local business. It’s honestly the perfect kind of venue.”

7 Wedding Table Number Ideas to Fit Your Wedding Style

After you finalize your wedding theme and style, it’s time to plan out the details. Wedding table numbers are a simple way to elevate your tablescape and tie in a cohesive theme.

We reached out to Christena Devaney, Owner and Lead Planner of Elegant & Sophisticated Affairs, to learn how table number designs can evoke your wedding aesthetic. Devaney shares, “Table numbers are an extension of your stationery design, and, thus, your overall wedding vision. At a minimum, your table numbers should be the same design as your invitations, menu cards, escort cards, etc. Whichever print company is doing your invitations should also design your wedding day stationery, which includes your table numbers. This way, everything has a cohesive look.”

Keep reading to find the perfect table number design to complement your wedding style. From whimsical LED lights to romantic golden frames, the possibilities are endless.

Mara Brown, Graphic Designer and Marketing Associate at Catering by Design, tells us, “We took the themes of the 60s and 70s, with flower child vibes, and interwove the colors and the four signs of the zodiac: water, fire, air, and earth. We then created food stations and hors d’oeuvres for the cocktail hour that centered around those themes. They were also completely new items, as it was a priority that the guests at this event hadn’t experienced these presentations in the past.

“We sourced seasonal ingredients that tied together color themes from the overall event, including pops of orange, green, yellow and red — and truly brought to life ‘A Fabulous Feast of Rebirth and Renewal.’”

Some of the highlights and experiences offered to guests included an interactive cocktail reception with a themed ‘pin bar’ where guests could take and wear custom-printed pins in different sizes and shapes as well as a wine and spirit pull (with wine and spirits donated by the host committee and sold to guests to raise money).

“Other elements included a fun silent auction, a social justice table to raise awareness of local causes, a vintage tee shirt ‘merch’ store where guests could purchase items to raise money, two amazing rock bands, and more.”

5. Activity Gala Themes

Engaging activities make for — you guessed it — engaging themes. Activity-based themes create a wonderful opportunity for immersive activities that supplement more traditional entertainment acts.

Use PartySlate’s curated entertainment directory to find everything from magicians to performance acts that will bring your gala theme to life.

JDRF
photographer: Iris Photography – West Hartford CT | design, planning & production: Marina Luri Events

The Kentucky Derby

Marina Luri-Clark, President of Marina Luri Events, shares, “The focus of this event was to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The committee had chosen the theme to coincide with the Kentucky Derby. Instead of going with the typical Derby colors, we were inspired by a high-end garden party and gave it a twist.

“We used gerbera daisies on grass-lined trays to display auction items, and we created a fun photo backdrop wall with the same elements. In the VIP lounge, we combined boxwood and mid-century modern furniture — whereas in the main dining room, we kept it a little more traditional with green striped linens, tall gold vases, and Derby-themed printed materials.”

The World is a Circus

Ann Marie Arzt, President of EventScape, Inc., shares the idea behind “Le Monde est un Cirque!” — The World is a Circus: “Over 500 guests witnessed the thrill of high-flying acrobatics while being inspired by wonder and whimsical delight at the Alzheimer’s Association Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala held at The Fairmont Chicago.

“The Imperial Ballroom was transformed by colorful lifted arrangements with brightly colored feathers and florals by Kehoe Designs. Bags of blue and pink cotton candy were placed at each setting. Purple, pink, and amber lighting filled the room which featured a center stage dance floor with aerial rigging and four separate performance stages.”

Casino Night

Casey Plasch, Co-Owner of 1440 Event Design, shares, “We were able to make this annual Gala for the Chicago Association of Realtors a hit by playing with color inside the clean modern space at Venue SIX10.  We focused on bringing a luxury Casino night to life, while featuring their key sponsors, by using creative décor with high visibility.”

Chicago Casino Suppliers was also on hand to entertain guests all night long.

Homecoming

Ty Kuppig, Founder and Creative Director of TYGER Productions, tells us, “For Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s 2022 gala, we worked with the theme of ‘Homecoming’ as we welcomed guests back to this 600+ guest annual event (in person for the first time in several years).

“We took a decidedly contemporary approach using a bold color palette in the décor, strong visual messaging, and thoughtful details such as pennant-shaped menus with collegiate-inspired typeface. The overall effect was a modern, elevated environment that felt remarkably warm and inviting.”

6. Location Gala Themes

A great gala planner and design team can transport your guests to any location in the world. Capture the sights, cuisine, and entertainment of your favorite locale for a theme that immerses guests into a whole new experience.

Wish Upon a Wedding's 11th Annual Blissful Wishes Gala

Moulin Rouge

Lauren LePine, Event Director at Urban Allure Events, shares, “Wish Upon a Wedding’s gala this past November was such a labor of love among the amazing vendor community of Chicago. The theme this past year was Moulin Rouge, and it really started with our showgirl silhouette that was the inspiration for our marketing and collateral pieces.

“The showgirl was the jumping off point for everything creative, and our vendors really embraced that — incorporating her feathers into floral designs, her vibe and energy into custom performances peppered throughout the night, and even the attendees really came through with attire! A great theme is the way to infuse so much energy into a non-for-profit event, and our team is looking forward to bringing 2023’s gala to life this fall.”

Cambodia

Alayna Koop, Social Media Manager at Good Gracious! Events, reminds us that catering is just as important when it comes to theme rollout (including this Cambodia-themed California Science Center Discovery Ball).

“From cocktails all the way through dessert,” Koop shares, “our culinary team leaned into flavors of Cambodian cuisine by using exotic tropical fruits, leafy greens, fermented sauces, and herbs like kaffir lime leaves, sweet basil, and lemongrass.”

Mardi Gras

Kelley Troia, Chief Astonishment Officer at Clandestine Events and Experiences, shares, “We leveraged a Mardi Gras masquerade ball concept filled with surprise elements such as a pop-up Hurricane bar, a second line parade with a local brass band and private police escort through downtown, aerialists, feather dancers, a drum line, and a secret speakeasy that featured tarot readers along with a swing band.

“The event was so successful, the client insisted we extend the celebration an extra hour, and we were happy to oblige.”

7. Science & Tech Gala Themes

Look to science and technology for cutting-edge ideas that transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. This type of theme promises to bring an aura of magic to your gala — whether it’s through transformative lighting or immersive activities.

World Science

Ryan Hill, Principal at Apotheosis Events, shares, “The World Science Festival Gala is always a creative tour de force, and the inspiration has come from a different place each time that we have planned this event. In this case, as basic as it may seem, the entire design sprung from the tablecloth.

“In general, we worked in the cosmos for the overall theme this year, and, as it turned out, once we found that tablecloth, the entire design came to life from there. Brian Green, the head of the World Science Festival and world famous physicist, came up with the idea of dusting that formula onto the plates as an easter egg for anyone attending who was smart enough to understand. I thought that was very fun — and a few people got it.”

Got Light created a futuristic setting for California Academy of Sciences’ annual gala. Abstract lighting structures with ever-shifting neon colors made the future look bright. An LED bar area and LED reception tables complemented the aesthetic.

31 Disco Theme Party Ideas That Will Take You Back in Time

Decades come and go, but disco theme party ideas will be some of our favorites forever. From bouncy beats to hair that scrapes the ceiling and disco balls as far as the eye can see (oh how we love those disco balls), there’s nothing quite like taking your first step into a disco-themed party (and never wanting to look back).

Through the ups and downs of the 1970s came an epic era that would go down as one of the best decades in history — especially when it came to events and celebrations. Enter: the birth of our beloved disco and its parties.

These 31 disco theme party ideas are sure to bring out your inner dancing queen. So let’s all do a little dance, and start planning our disco theme parties tonight.

1. Come & Skate a While

Palo Alto, CA

Roller disco and a silent disco were merged together to create one unforgettable event experience. With a retro arcade, a throwback roller rink, and an entrance lined with 1970s music legends, this party would make moguls from Diana Ross to the Bee Gees proud.

2. Décor From the Ground Up

photographer: Casey Jade Photography | planner: Kat Napolitano | design: MRE | venue & caterer: The Mirage | entertainment: Infiniti Creative | a/v & lighting: Encore Creative

Las Vegas, NV

It only makes sense that a disco ball this grand belongs to a Las Vegas New Year’s Eve event. With a sequin-filled club and hair so big you know it’s from the 70s, this party welcomed 2020 right.

3. A Design That Has Us Spinning

New Orleans, LA

Remind us to look at this design next time we’re seeking seating chart ideas. Who wouldn’t want to find their table with a turntable place card display? “Groovy glamor” was the design inspiration, to which we say, a job well done.

4. This One’s for the Girls

Washington, D.C.

Who said disco is dead? Even our little ones can appreciate a good disco ball — or in this case, a disco ball-inspired party cup. We love how this at-home kids birthday party put a French twist on our favorite decade.

5. No Panic at This Disco Party

With shimmering disco ball escort cards and metallic footwear provided at the door, guests were led into this Bat Mitzvah party with a pleasant experience in mind.

The promise of comfortable feet meant there was no hesitation when it came to letting loose on the disco ball-topped dance floor — and we can’t help but dream of the day we’ll be groovin’ to our favorite tunes again.

The queen of disco deserves nothing but the best party the theme has ever seen. The opening for The Cher Show on Broadway was filled with mylar fringe, tassels, mirrorballs, and the most iconic palette to support the era’s superstar.

Nothing embodies the 70s like a psychedelic event design. Silver streamer-covered walls paired with moody red uplighting and an on-theme DJ booth created one of the most enticing 50th birthday parties we’ve seen.

8. Saturday Night Wedding Fever

Are you digging this theme as much as we are? We’re obsessed with the combination of disco and dim sum at this corporate dinner party — not to mention the incorporation of sparkling sequin table linens, the niftiest menus, and kaleidoscopic wall prints.

10. Disco Theme Party Ideas Dare to be Different

Droga5 turned disco into an on-brand disc5 for their annual company holiday event. We love their unique take on the popular party theme, with disco balls arranged into throw pillows, the addition of gold disco balls above the dance floor, and the eclectic furniture placed throughout the party.

If disco went on a tropical vacation, we imagine it would look like this. Pampas grass — one of our favorite wedding trends — came together with leafy palms to top the party’s center disco ball in a way we never would have thought of — and now can’t live without.

12. Reaching New Heights of Glitz & Glam

One dance floor disco ball may be enough for some, but certainly not for this Bar Mitzvah boy. We’re in awe of the way the light reflecting spheres remind us of both a starry night and the infamous party era.

13. After the Party It’s the Disco Party

A modern reception gave way to an exclusive, “disco inferno” wedding after party — and we’re obsessed with every detail. The monochromatic palette, cluster of mirrored balls reflecting onto the dance floor, and retro-inspired lounge areas, ensured every guest was ready to keep the party going into the morning.

14. Studio 54, Brought Back to Life

By now you know the drill: disco balls hovering over dance floors, sparkling silvers reflecting off of every corner, and the best music the 1970s had to offer filling the room.

But what you don’t know is that every groovy get together is different — including this Studio 54-inspired birthday. A living sushi display — yes, you read that right — sparkling floral centerpieces, and even on-theme bathroom décor, made this bash truly epic.

15. Read Our Lips — & This Book

We love how every inch of this birthday party was covered in groovy elements — including the guest book corner. Illusional wall coverings and mystifying lava lamp décor proved to be the ultimate throwback elements at this foxy fête.

Michael Kors teamed up with Interview Magazine to transform a fashion-forward NYC event into a Studio 54 flashback. We never thought we’d love something more than a disco ball-covered ceiling — branded, disco ball furniture convinced us otherwise.

This milestone birthday party was as epic as it looks. To guests’ surprise, they were led to a private hotel suite-turned event space, where an intimate dinner turned into the ultimate dance party.

Foil fringe-covered walls, disco ball-inspired menus, and classic 1970s sweets from Twinkies to Ding Dongs made this a night they won’t soon forget.

18. An Abba-Worthy Stage

Friday night and the lights are certainly not low. This colorful 65th birthday bash has us mesmerized from floor to glistening ceiling. Put marquee “disco” signage and a silver candy bar on our next birthday wish list.

We just discovered tie dye florals — and we’re never going back. It’s only fitting that a 70th birthday was celebrated with the most incredible 70s décor, from a disco ball photo wall to a light up dance floor, unforgettable outfits, and costume props served to guests on silver platters. Talk about good vibes.

A cotton candy fun room was far from the only creative set up at this corporate holiday party. That’s right: an actual “caro-soul” took guests on a ride around the party as they listened to 70s hits and danced the night away.

26. Manhattan Flashback

New York, NY

Everyone will turn into a dancing queen at a celebration like this. Pampas grass and marquee signage met illuminating disco décor to create the most glamourous, Studio 54-chic party New York City has seen since 1978.

27. When Disco Went Daytime

photographer: Shannon Olesak | planner: Stacey Events | venue: Colonial Lake Park

Charleston, SC

We’re not sure if disco had ever seen daylight before, but it turns out it looks just as glam under the sun. The disco-inspired park party was the perfect combination of carnival-chic and 70s glam.

28. Call It a Corporate Comeback

What’s not to love about a product launch with a Studio 54 spin? Flashy photo ops made of metallic tinsel and disco balls (what else?) were too good not to pose in front of as guests enjoyed their time above the New York City skyline.

The party somehow merges futuristic vibes with retro glam, and we’re absolutely here for it.

29. Disco Wouldn’t Exist Without the 70s

photographer: Alisha Maria Photography | planner: Nicole Guilmartin Events | venue: 9Ofs | caterer: MAX Ultimate Food | rentals: PEAK Event Services

Boston, MA

There’s a lot to love about the 70s — and big hair is most certainly one of them. Studio 54 wouldn’t feel right without luscious locks towering the dance floor.

So we had to pay our respects to this 70s-inspired anniversary, which had guests rocking their grooviest tie-dye and even better bell bottoms (you know, the ones that make our modern flare jeans look skinny).

The rooftop event’s mobile catering station is just one of the elements we’d love at our next outdoor event.

30. Don’t Be Afraid to Do The Hustle

Dancing the night away is not an experience unique to the disco era, but we sure do have it to thank for some of our favorite dance moves.

Hire a top entertainment company, like Toast & Jam DJs, to get the party going — and to keep it going all night long. This Disco fever wedding featured shining disco balls above the dance floor and a neon sign with a nod to the couple’s favorite decade.

31. Make Sure to Get All the Right Angles

One of the best things about a disco party is the photography that comes along with it. Make sure you work with your planner to create a photo booth — or photo room — where you can capture these epic moments.

AJ Events planned this iconic milestone birthday party, complete with a rotating photo booth platform where photographer, Michael Blanchard, captured all the right angles.

People Also Ask…

How do you throw a disco theme party?

First things first. We always start by selecting a venue (or deciding to party from home). After you have a place, date, and time, hire a party planner (especially for events with over 20 guests). Your party planner will help guide you in your decision making process based on your event type (birthday, wedding after party, anniversary, and so on). And speaking of guests, invitations are up next.

Now it’s time to discover your style. Do you want to deck your party out in disco balls? Are you going for a more subtle design? We love metallic tinsel and tassel for disco theme parties, along with bold lighting (think spotlights that sway across the dance floor), and of course, you can’t count out a good DJ, band, or playlist. You can find all of your disco party vendors from caterers and florists to a/v and entertainment companies in PartySlate’s directory (just filter by company type and city).

What do you wear to a disco theme party?

Invitations set the tone for what to wear to a disco theme party, but more often than not it’s encouraged to go all out. Think bulging wigs, bright patterned tops, neon headbands, bell bottom pants (and you can never go wrong with sparkling sequins). Need some visuals? You can’t go wrong with boots like these, dresses or jumpsuits like these — or take it in a more casual direction with an outfit like this.
