Pick Your Flower, Find Your Party Theme

That’s right, finding a creative and cohesive party theme can be as easy as choosing your favorite flower!

We always love a good party theme; in fact, some of our most-read articles on PartySlate are about unique and trending themes. A flower-themed party, in particular, makes a beautiful and vibrant statement. Not only can flowers be used as décor with a floral entrance, centerpieces, garlands, and more — but flowers can inform every single element of your party or wedding (even a wedding can make a design statement with the use of only a single type of flower throughout).

Here are some ideas on how you can incorporate flowers into your party: Encourage guests to don floral printed attire, include floral arrangement or flower crown creation as an activity, choose a bright bloom-filled backdrop for photos, and incorporate edible flowers into catering and cocktails. Lastly, send guests home with small potted plants, flower seeds, or items like floral-scented candles or bath bombs.

But which flower should you choose? Read on for inspired suggestions for four popular perennials.

Sunflower Theme Party Ideas

longevity | happiness | positivity

Sunflowers stand in full bloom during the summer months, slowly rotating to turn their bright faces toward the sun throughout the day. They are warm and happy flowers, making them perfect for any joyful celebration. Their bright yellow petals add a pop of color, create a cheerful ambiance, and set a sunny tone.

Sunflowers are perfect for many wedding and party styles — from rustic and boho to traditional and modern. At a rustic celebration, they offer a vibrant vibe against a backdrop of greenery and woods. For a modern wedding, we love a single sunflower for the perfect, starkly beautiful bouquet.

Tulip Theme Party Ideas

renewal | grace | abundance

These spring blooms appear as the weather warms, making tulips an apt symbol of new beginnings. Their relatively short life offers a timely reminder to celebrate every moment.

Unlike sunflowers, tulips grow in a variety of colors, creating beautiful versatility for any kind of party or wedding design. With tulips, you can select your favorite hue and employ repetition for a wow-worthy monochrome affair. Or conjure a riot of color by making full use of the wide spectrum of tulip hues, all mixed together for a joyful scene. We happen to love an orderly ombré of fresh spring hues, with tulips marching down a table or upended overhead for a fantastical display.

Rose Theme Party Ideas

love | hope | gratitude

Roses are classic and beloved. For centuries, they have been used to communicate sentiment; vary the hue, and the meaning of a rose shifts. While deep red signals deep love, white roses can nod to new beginnings, and yellow offers gratitude — which we happen to think are all fitting reasons to celebrate.

Rose colors range from soft pastels to bold hues, which make them perfect for every kind of celebration — from baby showers and birthdays to the most romantic of weddings. Whether in full ecstatic bloom or a tight vibrant bud, a rose (by any other name) will still look as beautiful.

Orchid Theme Party Ideas

good fortune | strength | luxury

An orchid — a single bloom — evokes exotic beauty. But an entire partyscape filled with orchids? That is a striking scene, both magical and memorable. The graceful flower is notoriously rich in hue and shape. Surprisingly, though, the delicate-looking bloom is actually hearty and resilient.

From the classic white Phalaenopsis to the bold and vibrant Cattleya, there’s a perfect orchid for every style and setting. We love the sight of orchids dripping from a lush floral installation above a dance floor or dinner table. Orchids also wow trailing from a unique bouquet or starkly rising from creative centerpieces.

How the Met Gala 2023 Theme Will Inspire Future Parties & Events

Every year, on the first Monday in May, some of the biggest celebrities, designers, socialites, and influencers gather in New York City for the annual Met Gala.

Some refer to the Met Gala as the unofficial kickoff to gala season, while others view it as the biggest night out for fashion. But at PartySlate, we regard the Met Gala as an evening that best showcases how fabulous fêtes can mirror luxury fashion.

Veteran event planners, designers, and producers draw inspiration from all around them — including the fashion industry. The PartySlate team is sharing how red carpet fashion can influence event design (and vice versa). Plus, we’re highlighting how this year’s Met Gala theme honoring Karl Lagerfeld is inspiring us to host our very own black and white celebration.

But First, What Is the Met Gala?

The Met Gala is an annual charity event that raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The gala coincides with the opening of the museum’s fashion exhibition, which guests have the privilege of touring before they sit down to dinner.

Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, has been in charge of the Met Gala since 1995. Plus, each Met Gala has a group of co-hosts who represent that year’s celebration. The 2023 gala was hosted by Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Anna Wintour.

Guests walk the red carpet, visit the exhibit, enjoy a sit-down dinner, and often a surprise performance from a celebrity musical guest. Then, of course, there are the after parties — which are an extension of the already fabulous gala.

Who Attends the Met Gala?

There are different ways you might be able to score a spot on this highly exclusive guest list. First, donors to the museum are often invited to the Met Gala as special guests of honor. Fashion labels and corporations can also purchase tables, then allocate seats to specific individuals. For the fashion labels, they usually fill their tables with celebrities whom they dress for the big event.

There are always a few individuals you can assume will walk the Met Gala red carpet. Kim, Kendall, and Kylie showed up in equally stunning yet completely different attire. Gisele Bündchen was decked out in white feathers, and Naomi Campbell chose a bolder pink and silver color palette.

Plenty of fresh faces also made their way down the exclusive red carpet, from Lizzo and Olivia Rodriego to Madelyn Cline and Maya Hawke.

What Was the Met Gala 2023 Theme?

Each year, the Met Gala has a dress code that coordinates with the theme of the Costume Institute’s exhibition. For 2023, the dress code was “in honor of Karl”, referring to Karl Lagerfeld, a fashion designer who was arguably best known for his time as the creative director for Chanel.

Attendees definitely understood this year’s assignment and committed to the theme and dress code. When it came to color palette, black and white was a popular choice, followed closely by pink and black — both a nod to Lagerfeld and his time at Chanel. Pearl accents, sequins, and lace were popular detail choices for many guests, while a few attendees chose to go bolder with color, choosing reds, oranges, blues, and greens.

What Was the Design of the 2023 Met Gala

Lagerfeld loved to host dinner parties and entertain, even hosting the wedding reception for Paloma Picasso at his home in Paris in the 1970s. The Met Gala event team drew inspiration from that wedding celebration when creating the tablescapes, which included pink floral centerpieces, French linen, and hand-painted candelabras.

The event team also constructed a set that resembled Lagerfeld’s own personal library, giving guests the experience of dining in his home.

What Did Guests Eat & Drink at the Met Gala Dinner?

Caterer Olivier Cheng drew inspiration from many of Lagerfeld’s favorite foods and his international palette when curating the Met Gala menu. Guests enjoyed chilled spring pea soup and Ōra King salmon, all served on vintage china dishware. Cheng made sure to prioritize what he believed Lagerfeld would have loved, including some of his favorite ingredients, like King salmon.

Lagerfeld was also known to indulge in Diet Coke, so there was plenty of both the soft drink and delicious wines, which paired perfectly with the seasonal menu.

If Met Gala Looks Were Event Designs…

Fashion trends and runways often inspire event designs — and The Met Gala red carpet is no exception. This year’s “in honor of Karl” theme brought sleek black and white pairings, pops of pink, and bold reds to the table — and several real event albums from PartySlate.com’s endless hub of inspiration paired perfectly.

Pretty in Pink

When it comes to Chanel, pink is a very close second to the ultimate and classic color combination of black and white. From pastel pink to vibrantly hot hues, this color is equally as beautiful for event designs as it is for these gorgeous gowns.

Bold in Blue

These three Met Gala looks may share the same hue, but they couldn’t be more different in terms of style and design — just like the three real event designs paired with each red carpet moment.

Red Carpet Ready

Red roses have always been a classic floral choice for events of all kinds, and the red roses from these stunning real events paired perfectly with the red gowns, suits, and attire that showed up at the Met Gala this year.

A Material World

From classic tweed (another clear nod to Lagerfeld’s time at Chanel) to fabulous fringe, the Met Gala saw plenty of red carpet looks that played with textures in creative and elevated ways — just like many real wedding and event designs.

Black & White Is Always Classic

Is there anything that more perfectly represents Karl Lagerfeld’s time at Chanel than a black and white color palette? Black and white was the most popular color combination on the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala, and it also continues to hold strong as a classic color palette for events.

Taurus

(April 20-May 20)

You like to indulge while keeping things chill. A painting party is right up your ally. Hence, a serene art theme is perfect for your creative spirit. Other ideas for creative and relaxing soirées for you include a perfume mixing party, hands-on cocktail demo, or a yoga retreat (with a side of wine).

Gemini

(May 21-June 20)

As the life of the party, you always want to keep things interesting. Which is why you’re putting your own twist on a typical 1970s-themed party — and making it Woodstock. In fact, you can rock any decade and make it fresh again; consider 1920s glam or 1980s neon for a memorable party.

10 Romantic Wedding Ideas for Your Fairytale Wedding

“Happily ever after” still begins with a romantic wedding celebration. PartySlate is here to make your wedding dreams come true — from ceremony to reception.

PartySlate reached out to Alejandra Poupel, Founder of Alejandra Poupel Events, to learn more about how to curate a fairytale wedding experience. She tells us, “The elements that go into creating a romantic wedding aesthetic is incorporating the 5 senses.”

She goes on to say, “It’s essential to pamper the guests and curate an event design that is romantic — with opulent yet sophisticated floral design. The lighting is crucial in a romantic wedding. Candlelight and soft-toned lighting make all the difference. Horse carriages and fireworks, or video mapping that tells the couples’ story, is also helpful.”

We’ve searched through hundreds of real weddings on PartySlate to find the most romantic ideas for your fairytale wedding. From choosing an ornate wedding venue to creating a romantic reception filled with lush florals and enchanting photo ops, planning a real-life fairytale has never been easier.

Keep reading for the best romantic wedding inspiration, plus tips on how to find the right vendors to pull off your vision. As Poupel tells us, “Most of my couples say that what really made their dreams come true was when all the guests said it was the most memorable wedding of their lives.”

1. Choose a Venue With Ornate Elements

From Cinderella’s castle to The Sultan’s Palace in Aladdin, castles and palaces are the quintessential setting for any fairytale wedding. Poupel shares, “I am lucky enough to be a planner in Paris, so when my clients are looking for romantic venues, we usually guide them towards chateau weddings. They can come in horse carriages, and guests can enjoy the incredible gardens with thousands of candles.

“For example, we would recommend venues such as the Chateau Vaux le Vicomte or the Chateau de Chantilly that we work with often, since the history and gorgeous gardens and golden-gilded high ceiling ballrooms are the perfect backdrop for a fairy tale wedding.”

While castle venues do exist, and are nothing short of extraordinary, vintage ballrooms and manor houses often boast similar architectural elements. Look for venues that feature stone work backdrops, wood-paneled walls, stained glass windows, gold ceiling embellishments, and romantic gardens.

Head to PartySlate’s curated venue directory to find your fairytale wedding venue. Use the filters to narrow your search by location and amenities. We also recommend looking at “historic estates and mansions” in the venue type filter.

Show these ideas to your wedding bakery team for inspiration.

36 Best Wedding Mandap Ideas

A mandap is a temporary ceremonial structure for Hindu or Jain weddings. They were traditionally built from wood, but newer designs often incorporate draping, flowers and crystals.

Sonal J. Shah, Founder and CEO of eponymous event planning company, Sonal J. Shah Event Consultants, spoke with PartySlate about mandap trends. “Modern Indian weddings often feature mandaps with heavy florals. We like to incorporate hanging elements like blooms suspended from the canopy (which looks great in photos!), and appreciate open designs that offer great visibility for guests – especially for larger weddings,” she says.

Mandap styles can range from organic to glamorous. Shah adds natural whimsy with floral branches and adores cherry blossoms when they’re in season. She says that her team loves experimenting with less traditional shapes like oval and round mandaps.

How do I decorate my mandap?

A mandap features four pillars. These four pillars not only symbolize the four parents who raised their children, they also create the framework for beautiful mandap decorations

Your mandap will be the most visible component of the Mandap Ceremony. As such, you will want to carefully consider how your mandap can reflect your wedding style, theme, and color palette.

Draping, flowers, and greenery are just the beginning. Use a lucite structure to evoke a contemporary style. On the other hand, branches and natural woods will suggest a more rustic theme. Get creative by incorporating everything from tasseled fringe to intricate lighting.

Remember, your wedding planner and design team can help you create a stunning wedding mandap that beautifully reflects your overall wedding vision.
