Neon was truly everywhere at this creative and inspired corporate event, hosted at Mezzanine SF in San Francisco. From geometric light installations to a light-up neon foosball table (and much more incredible décor from Blueprint Studios), the planners at Roar Events incorporated the neon party theme into each and every event element. Even the delicious hors d’oeuvres from Culinary Eye Catering & Events were complemented and highlighted by neon accents, including neon-printed menus (teasing chocolate-dipped donut holes) and bright orange and blue serving dishes.

Now that we’re back in the 20s again, The Great Gatsby is inspiring celebrations of all kinds. So many events, in fact, that we dedicated an entire article to the theme. But since the article’s publish date, PartySlate has seen an even bigger influx of Gatsby-themed celebrations, including this milestone birthday party, hosted at the Historic Alfred I. Dupont Building in Miami. Glitz, glam, and plenty of gold accents made this a party to remember. The planners and designers at LV Event Designs highlighted the historic venue with cascading red roses, gilded bars, and plenty of on-theme entertainment.

29 Candle Centerpieces at Weddings [Photos]

Few décor elements are able to conjure a dreamy vibe as beautifully as candles. Just as Sam I Am discovered he loved green eggs and ham, we too have realized our affection for flickering candlelight. We love candles in a glass hurricane vase; we love them in votives on a runner of lace. We love candles’ gleam and candles’ glow; we even love them hanging or afloat. Scroll through these 29 ideas for candles centerpieces at weddings to see how you like them best — and find the décor team to realize your vision.

37 Bohemian Wedding Ideas that Will Bring Out Your Inner Flower Child

Bohemians used to be defined by their interest in creative endeavors and their wandering nature. We have bohos of yore to thank for design and décor trends aplenty and inspired pairings like feathers and gold, crocheted art and fresh blooms. That wild spirit has even worked its way into one of the oldest traditions — weddings

We love the way creative couples and talented design teams have reinterpreted hippie style with rustic wood tables, vintage glassware, brass rings outfitted with florals and tassels, winding aisles, and free-flowing greenery galore. The defining feature of bohemian weddings seems to be their eclectic mix of eras, colors, and styles that create a totally unique vibe

The Galactic Glamour is Strong at These 5 Star Wars-Themed Weddings

With The Mandalorian streaming on Disney+, Baby Yoda filling our social feeds, and passionate YouTubers arguing over the fate of the Star Wars franchise, interest in the Star Wars universe is as strong as ever. For die-hard fans, a Star Wars-themed wedding is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate your big day — just check out these five epic weddings. Whether you are looking for an event planner to organize an escort of stormtroopers or a photographer to capture a lightsaber dance-off, PartySlate is here to inspire and connect you with the best event professionals and venues in the country. With the right party experts, “The Force will be with you, always.”

May the Love Be with You

Atlanta, GA

Everything about this Star Wars-themed wedding had us feeling the love. The sweetheart table boasted a Darth Vader and Stormtrooper helmet (in addition to lavish crimson florals). The bride’s lightsaber bouquet, along with the geode wedding cake (complete with Star Wars-figure cake toppers), had our hearts beating at “lightspeed.”  On-theme catering and an imaginative photo op for the bride and groom were a few of the additional details that made this wedding a four-star experience.

Duel to the Death Love

Orlando, FL

For Star Wars’ lovers, a lightsaber duel is just as romantic as that first dance. This bride and groom made their fairytale (or sci fi) wedding come true with gorgeous starlit backdrops, planetary centerpieces, and plenty of candlelight. Lightsaber props made for a perfect late night photo op. While this “elegant weapon for a more civilized age” might conjure scenes of incoming blaster bolts, we can’t help thinking of breathtaking weddings and true love.

Sign Your Name Among the Stars

Denton, TX

This rustic wedding won us over with its Star Wars details. Cocktail napkins featured Yoda’s most inspirational quote, “Do or do not do; there is no try,” motivating us to head to the bar area. We certainly did not mind the nod to Tolkien, either. We especially love how the wedding guest book took an unexpected turn with a Millenium Falcon puzzle board. We’d readily traverse the cosmos looking for love like this.

Forget Table Numbers, Show us C-3PO

Rosemont, IL

While seating charts normally organize tables by numbers, this one used various Star Wars’ characters to direct guests to their seats. Dessert was just as out of this world with Star Wars-themed cookies, including our two favorite droids. Don’t let a Jedi fool you: these are definitely the cookies we’re looking for.

Held Hostage to Love

Santa Barbara, CA

Flanked by stormtroopers, this bride and groom were happily held hostage at the marriage altar — with no escape in sight. Other on-theme ceremony details included lightsaber bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, along with a welcome sign in the style of the Star Wars’ opening crawl. After exchanging vows, these star-crossed lovers continued the celebration with a Star Wars-themed wedding reception. Table centerpieces featured glass-orb terrariums boasting (no, not plants) Star Wars action figures. And while no actual Sith were on hand to seduce guests toward the Dark Side, signature cocktails with names like Endor and The Force tempted guests to party all night long.

Garden-Themed Wedding in Luxe NYC Ballroom

New York, NY

The experienced planning team from Norma Cohen Productions worked with the designers at SBK Associates to conjure this totally-unique vision — a lush woodland in a luxe NYC ballroom. “We made a garden in The Pierre,” explains Cohen, to fulfill this couple’s dream of a “Sean Parker-type wedding” — referring to the Napster founder’s California forest-set nuptials. A relatively intimate gathering for such an over-the-top fantastical celebration allowed for highly individualized service. Tables from Party Rental Ltd. overflowed with moss, while lighting by Frost Productions and hundreds of candles ensured a dreamy vibe. It’s of note that this wedding actually took place in 2004 but remains one of our most-loved; it just affirms that an uncommon concept brought to life with beautiful design is timeless.

This stunning wedding from Crown Weddings and Events featured a beautifully-draped clear tent from Hire Elegance built on a hill in a project that took a full 10 days. How Sustainably-Sourced Catering Will Help Save the World — and Your Event Menu

Greta Thunberg was Time’s Person of the Year, and for good reason. As 2020 kicks off, we are increasingly aware of our responsibility to the planet and each other. Luckily for us, so many eco-conscious catering companies are on hand to make our celebrations sustainable — and delicious. Expect to see greener celebrations as the decade unfolds.

When it comes to sustainability in events, Walden (a full-service event space that includes planning and catering, opening in Chicago’s West Town) is at the forefront of the movement. A few of the ways they’re working to ensure more eco-friendly celebrations include eliminating single-use products, engaging in full-stream composting and recycling, investing in renewable energy, and taking steps to carbon-offset every celebration in the space. Read on to see how these seven celebrations, from New York to California, incorporated sustainable practices in their beautiful events.

This Year’s Oscars’ Menu from Wolfgang Puck Will Treat Governors Ball Guests to Innovative Fare That’s 70% Vegan

The 92nd Annual Academy Awards® continues to be Hollywood’s most glamorous and highly-anticipated evening. The wins, losses, surprises, and upsets will be talked about for days (and sometimes years) — and all of that starts right after the show at the event’s only sponsored celebration, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ official post-Oscars celebration: The Governors Ball. This year will mark the Ball’s 26th year with Chef Wolfgang Puck and his accomplished team at the helm of the very heart of the soirée: its innovative menu.

As always, there will be classics, those dishes that ever-popular stars and attendees have come to ask for by name. “After the show, people are hungry. They want the chicken pot pie, the fried chicken, our smoked salmon Oscars, oysters, and naturally our pizza,” says Puck. But in addition to these dependably delicious options, will be innovative options to meet all manner of food allergies and preferences. In fact, 70% of this year’s menu will be vegan. And when skilled chefs like Puck’s team turn their attention to a specific type of fare, the results will be creative enough to delight all manner of eaters. This year’s menu will include innovations like compressed watermelon with agave and mint, hibiscus tacos, Hunan eggplant stir fry, and other veggie delights like carrot “bacon.” This will also be the first year for a new hand-stretched mozzarella and burrata bar.

At a company where employees mark their years of service by the number of Oscar ceremonies they’ve served with Wolfgang Puck Catering, this single night is the product of a year of careful planning that begins again the day after each year’s Ball. With so much attention going into the perfect event menu, what’s exciting us at PartySlate right now is that Wolfgang Puck Catering is offering this exact menu as an option for celebrations like galas, weddings, milestone birthdays, and product launches. In fact, the catering team will be recreating a delectable sampling of this menu for PartySlate’s upcoming event in Dallas, provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering — Dallas.

Small cups with yellow and green vegetables

Back to the event at hand, here’s a breakdown by-the-numbers. The Governors Ball serves a staggering 8,500 glasses of Champagne and 40 pounds of chocolate (in the team’s iconic gold-dusted chocolate Oscars, alone) — all with careful attention to local sourcing of ingredients and stylish and interesting presentations. It will once again be hosted in the iconic Ray Dolby Ballroom on the top level of Hollywood and Highland. The floral team from Marks Garden has conjured a vision in glorious gold and purple, with a dramatic ceiling installation and 12,000 blooms in shades ranging from light lavender to deep violet hues.

Read on for more insider info from our interview with renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck as we head into yet another talked-about evening.

What new food trends are you seeing that affect your menu-planning?

Our company philosophy has always been making sure we have something for everyone and accommodate all tastes and needs. Since 2013, our menus have been 50% vegan and plant-based. This year we’re adding even more vegan options to the menu with 70% vegan/plant-based, and 30% vegetarian, meat and seafood.

What distinguishes this year’s Oscar menu from other menus of the past?

For the first time, the first bite that guests receive in the lobbies after the awards show will be completely vegan!

New plant-based menu items include Sweet Potato Tempura with Mint Cilantro Aioli, Maitake Mushroom Salad with Eggplant Baba Ghanoush, and Housemade Campanelle Pasta with Preserved Meyer Lemon, Artichokes and English Peas. And this year, our chocolate desserts are made with Valrhona’s Inspiration and Guanaja vegan chocolates.

Our company philosophy has always been making sure we have something for everyone and accommodate all tastes and needs.

Limes with small tacos inside with garnishes of pink and green vegetables

What are some of the decisions that go into creating a menu for such a large-scale event?

We want to remain true to our philosophies and our beliefs and continue to source from local farms and partners, no matter what event we’re at including the Oscars’ Governors Ball. We want to make sure that we’re being environmentally responsible.

We want to ensure we’re taking into account a number of food allergies and lifestyle eating choices and create exciting dishes that offer diverse dietary and flavor options for guests.

Pieces of red sushi on a white plate

How do you create a menu that addresses such a wide variety of food allergies and sensitivities?

Serving small plates has allowed us to have more variety in the menu. Whether vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free, we make sure we have a menu that offers something delicious for everyone. We work closely with our farmers and suppliers to make sure we receive the best quality ingredients which are responsibly sourced and sustainably farmed.

We want to ensure we’re taking into account a number of food allergies and lifestyle eating choices and create exciting dishes that offer diverse dietary and flavor options for guests.

Did the plant-based nature of this year’s Oscars menu affect how food is presented/styled?

It has enhanced us and challenged our team to get creative in finding ways to replace the usual ingredients but still keep the integrity of the dish.

20 Party Trends for 2020

This past year’s parties featured long, winding tables, creative (and sometimes personal) charcuterie, amazing arches, and experiential photo ops galore. Some of last year’s trends will continue into 2020 (people will still need pics to post, after all) and will join a host of other exciting innovations we’re seeing crop up at celebrations. Whether you’re planning a weddingbirthday partyBar or Bat Mitzvah, or gala, you’ll want to be in-the-know on what’s new so you don’t miss out on incorporating fun trends like dueling stages and interactive centerpieces into your next celebration.

A Musical Face-Off Means More Entertainment

Chicago’s most recent Wish Upon a Wedding gala featured a dance floor flanked by opposing stages. Supporters of the nonprofit — which gifts weddings to couples who face life-threatening illnesses — were treated to performances that hopped between stages and musical styles (rock ‘n roll and swing) for an immersive entertainment experience where no one had a bad spot.

Big Love, Low Eco-Impact

Guests of this New York-set wedding were wowed by delicious dishes like chilled strawberry soup and petite sweets, before ending the night with a fun Philadelphia cheesesteak station. The eco-conscious cuisine was crafted from only the freshest local ingredients, adding a seasonal touch for the celebration as well. A partnership with local farms is just one of the ways the right caterer can create social events without an environmental impact.

Grand Entrance at a Grand Celebration

Tassels and tinsel add sparkle and fun and make the statement that it’s party-time. From wow-worthy ceiling installations to shimmery backdrops, they’re flexible and beautiful. We adore how long strands of tinsel were utilized to add gold glam as room dividers and grand entrances at PartySlate’s own 4th anniversary celebration in NYC.

9. Interactive Centerpieces Liven Up Tabletops

Herbaceous (and Delicious) Décor

We love when décor details do double duty (see tassels above). Not only is the tabletop at this event professional gathering gorgeous, but it’s functional too. Amid the lovely pastel florals and greenery sat little pots of fresh herbs for guests to snip — with sweet little gold scissors, of course — and savor with their meal.

10. Menus are Popping Up in Unusual Places

Ditch the Bread Basket

Another hard-working party element has earned a spot on our top trends list; this one acting as place card, menu, and appetizer. First of all, we love any soirée that gives each guest their own loaf of bread, but the menus cleverly printed on the wrapper is simply inspired. The idea is elevated even further by the rustic-chic place cards directing guests.

A Telephone that Tells Your Table

Speaking of inspired ways of letting guests know where they’re sitting, we are wowed by the creativity at this corporate celebration. Arriving guests were greeted by a wall of vintage rotary phones which they used to dial in for their table assignments at the James Bond-themed party. See more photos to get a peek at the cool geometric backdrops and glittery projection mapping at the conference celebration.

Donut Grow Up

Why should kids have all the fun? We love this neon-themed tech event with all of its glowing décor, geometric installations (trend alert!), and playful fare. Pick a pack of popcorn from the popcorn wall (then say that 10 times fast), or better yet, catch a donut hole at the end of a sugary slide for a sweet bite.

17. The Progressive Dinner Concept is Moving into the Event Scene

Each Room, A New Scene

The 1970s saw the popularization of progressive dinners — meals with courses served across several homes throughout the course of a single evening. That concept has moved into the event scene for beautifully surprising experiences. For example, this company anniversary celebration took guests on an immersive journey through multiple spaces, including cherry blossom and lavender coves. We love how each space featured its own themed entertainment with a mariachi band, ballet dancers, gospel singers, live mannequins, and more.

New Kind of Party for a New Year

This corporate New Year’s Eve celebration employed triangles, circles, and other shapes too complex to name. The effect was pure magic. Sneakerheads Rejoice

It’s not easy to combine agate theming, effusive florals, and sneakers into a seamless experience, but this celebration does it. Featuring a live art station that resulted in super-personal swag was an inspired touch; we could watch this painter create custom kicks all night long. Except we need to leave to hit the dessert table for a slice of that stunning agate cake.

The Art of Happiness

photographer: AP Images for LG Electronics USA and Luis Antonio Ruiz

Instead of hitting the gym, more and more people are joining DAYBREAKER, a morning dance community of over 500,000 members in 28 cities. LG Experience Happiness partnered with Project Happiness to bring yoga, fitness, happiness skills, and a wild dance party to this pre-work corporate event. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered breathtaking (and meditative) views of New York City, while several activity stations helped participants learn to empower themselves with new habits and thinking patterns. We especially love the Gratitude Cube that doubled as a gorgeous photo op.

Shop ‘til You Drop — Onto a Massage Table

photographer: Christopher Costello

To celebrate one Villa Victoria Secret collection, guests got in touch with their healthier side — all within sight of a refreshing swimming pool filled with giant white balloons. Massage and facial booths, coupled with outdoor workouts, provided day-long entertainment. A Victoria Secret sports collection pop-up shop gave guests the chance to find the perfect work-out gear, while jewel-toned banquet seating offered a reprieve from all the adrenaline.

Westfield BEAUTYCON wowed guests right from the start with its message of “Beauty and Balance.” Not only did participants get to enjoy wellness activities such as yoga and a seat at the beauty bar, but they could also indulge in more traditional wining and dining. Talk about the perfect balancing act. We especially love how a jewel-toned balloon installation and swing-set photo op added a touch of whimsy to this engaging corporate event.

Self-Love Deserves to be Celebrated

photographer: KingenSmith

The Geraghty’s first ever LOVE YOURSELF Fitness + Networking event had us falling in love from the get go. Several mood-boosting workout sessions were blissfully followed by hydration therapy, massages, and delicious (yet nutritious) smoothies. We especially adore how exercise balls were utilized in gorgeous seating arrangements. With so many fun-filled activities, we appreciate the chance to sit back and relax (but not for too long, of course).

This Party was a Breath of Fresh Air

photographer: Ross Daniels Photography

Nothing brings people together like a good dating app (or an experiential activation station). This Bumble pop-up got guests mingling with an oxygen station, massage area, and luxe lounge area. With chic Bumble merchandise and specialty cocktails, guests were willing to put off hitting the nearby ski slopes and mingle for a lot longer.
