49 Unique Bar Mitzvah Themes You Won’t See Twice

Becoming a Bar Mitzvah will be one of the most important days in your child’s life. Such an important milestone deserves to be celebrated in style. Therefore, we’ve rounded up 47 unique Bar Mitzvah themes that promise to make your child’s Bar Mitzvah party one for the history books.

While it’s not essential to have a party theme, themes tie every element of a celebration together — from the décor to the entertainment. We reached out two of the top Bar and Bat Mitzvah planners in the industry for insight:

“Lately, the idea of a theme has turned more into creating the right vibe and experience,” Davis tells us. “We need to plan each element coming back to what the B’nai Mitzvah young adult wants to feel at their party.”

Kraft agrees. “We always want our Mitzvahs to be very personal, unique, and memorable,” she tells us. “If we have a boy that wants to do a sports-themed Bar Mitzvah, as an example, then we spend time drilling down that idea for something less common — like turning the venue into a sports broadcasting studio.”

Keep reading to discover 47 unique Bar Mitzvah ideas. You’ll also find tips for executing your chosen party theme from some of the best planners in the industry. With PartySlate, planning a Bar Mitzvah party has never been easier — or more fun.

People Also Ask…

Do Bar Mitzvah parties have themes?

While party themes are a great way to tie a celebration together, they’re not essential. At the end of the day, the Bar Mitzvah party is a celebration to honor your child’s important milestone. As such, the party should reflect your child’s interests and preferences.

“For teens that do not have a clear vision, we ask a lot of interest-type questions, and eventually, it becomes clear what resonates with that child,” Kraft of Kraft Events tells us. “We have produced all types of different themes from rock climbing to comic books to camping!”

When it comes to themes, think beyond the obvious. Does your child have a favorite color? Does he gravitate toward a specific style? He can even combine several interests to create a unique Bar Mitzvah theme of his very own. See below for some of our favorite ways to reimagine a party theme:

Lean Into a Color Scheme

Let your color palette do the talking. Color is a subtle way to tie disparate elements of a celebration together. See the examples below from LV Event Designs and Gem Events to discover how color can influence décor, florals, catering, and more.

How do I Bring a Bar Mitzvah Theme to Life?

First and foremost, hire an event planner. Your event planner will work with your additional vendors to create your child’s dream celebration.

Davis of Tess Davis Events walks us through how she considers every element of planning a Bar Mitzvah party: “For our dance focused events, we want the room to scream fun, sophisticated, and ‘ready to party.’ However, it’s not just the ambience (lighting, style of seating, table styles, tablescapes, etc.) but also the various experiences we’re giving our guests. Food has become more interactive, photo ops need to feel social media worthy, and giveaways should feel branded like a great marketing strategy. Every element should have your guests leaving saying, ‘Wow! That was so fun, so different, and the best party I’ve ever been to!’ And our ultimate goal is for it to truly feel like a party that the guest of honor is proud to put their name on.”

See below how Jaclyn Watson Events creatively reflected a basketball party theme in everything from the invitations to the centerpieces and onsite activities. 7 Ways to Wow With a Blue Wedding

There’s something about the color blue that both revives and relaxes. It’s also a hue of contradictions. You’ll find it in abundance above and below (hello, sky and ocean), yet almost nowhere in between. We dare you to come up with a list of ten blue flowers.

Of course, we’re up for the test. We’ve searched through thousands of real weddings on PartySlate to find our favorite blue wedding color schemes and combinations. Blue runs the gamut from light and preppy to dark and dramatic. As such, there’s a shade of blue for everyone — regardless of wedding style.

Your wedding invitation suite sets the scene for your impending nuptials. Choose a color palette and design that will complement your wedding décor. For a softer, more romantic look, lean into ribbons and custom seals. For a more modern approach, go with a sleek design and bolder blue hues.

2. Blue Bouquets for Floral Flair

Blue florals are rare in nature — and all the more stunning when incorporated into wedding floral décor. Some of our favorite blue blooms include hydrangeas, sea holly, and blue delphiniums. For a more luxurious look, blue-violet orchids are always stunning. Of course, weddings without flowers are increasingly popular. Consider a non-floral bouquet for a contemporary blue wedding ceremony.

Best Wedding Colors [Guide]

Wedding colors determine the tone, mood, and style of your celebration. Much like the sun in a solar system, a color palette is the guiding force that sets every element of your celebration in motion.

Think about it. An all-white wedding evokes a completely different feel than a technicolor reception with vibrant wedding color schemes. Similarly, a red and black wedding feels different than a pastel-toned affair.

Before you begin the fun-filled process of selecting wedding décor and attire, it’s important to know your color schemes. Your wedding color palette will create an experience for your guests — starting from the moment that they open their wedding invitations.

How to Pick Wedding Colors

With all of the possible color combinations, you might be wondering “What should my wedding colors be?”

Several factors may determine your final wedding colors. Colors — found everywhere in the natural world — come with psychological and cultural associations. Even the seasons come with their own set of color associations.

For example, you’re more likely to find a jewel-toned palette at a winter wedding than a spring wedding. Likewise, summer weddings tend to feature more citrus tones than autumn celebrations

Of course, no two humans are the same. Consequently, different people may have different connections with the same colors. When it comes to choosing your wedding colors, we recommend starting with a list of your favorite colors. Compare your list it to your beloved’s list to narrow your palette to hues you both adore.

What Are Examples of Color Schemes?

Wedding mandap with light gray, gold, pale pink, and light blue wedding colors | PartySlate
photographer: Nayeem Vohra Photography & Films | planner: Tum Hi Ho Events | décor: L’Ambiance Weddings | venue: Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina

According to color theory, a color scheme is the selection of specific color combinations used in design work. For those of us afraid of making the ultimate “clashing” error, there’s no need to worry. Colors schemes offer a simple set of guidelines for selecting stunning color combinations. Here are three popular color schemes used throughout the design world:

Monochromatic Color Scheme: Emphasis on a single hue with various shades, tints, and tones

Complementary Color Scheme: The combination of a primary and secondary color

Analogous Color Scheme: Three closely-related colors on the color wheel

A basic understanding of color schemes can help guide you as you select your wedding colors. We also recommend relying on your wedding planner for direction and inspiration when it comes to choosing color combinations.

What Are Popular Wedding Colors?

Wedding trends may come and go, but some wedding color schemes will always be popular. For example, we’ve all heard of the “white wedding” (thank you, Billy Idol). Other classic combinations include black and white — as well as navy and blush.

Moreover, couples often select their wedding color palette based on their wedding date. Spring colors, for example, tend to be light and ethereal. Winter colors, on the other hand, are often dark and bold. Click to discover PartySlate’s top seasonal wedding color palettes:

Spring

Summer

Fall

Winter

Lastly, couples often rely on the “Pantone Color of the Year” to inspire their wedding palette and décor. For over two decades, the Pantone Color Institute has used trend-forcasting research to to select the “colour of the year.” You can read about much-discussed color choices of 2021 here.

What Are Traditional Wedding Colors?

Traditional wedding colors tend to eschew eclectic or funky combinations. At PartySlate, we often see monochromatic color schemes that revolve around a single color —  be it white, pink, or blue.

We also find many wedding color palettes that combine two contrasting colors. Popular examples of this dual-color combination include:

Black and White

• Red and Black

• White and Gold

• Navy and Blush

• Burgundy and Gold

• Coral and Navy

Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg (or should we say, rainbow?). Search PartySlate’s Wedding Gallery to see real wedding celebrations. You can even filter your results by wedding colors and styles.

What Do Colors Mean in a Wedding?

Three couples on their wedding day.
from left to right: Olujr Photographer | photographer: Duke Images | photographer: Santiago Almada Photography

It’s true, colors have always conveyed psychological and cultural meanings. Go back as far as Ancient Rome, and you’ll find the color purple representing “authority” and “wealth.” It turns out that there’s a reason why togas were dyed purple, as opposed to green.

Of course, wedding colors mean different things in different cultures. For example, American brides tend to wear white (representing innocence and purity) on their wedding day. Chinese brides, on the other hand, often wear red — as red represents happiness and good fortune.

Even the shade of a color can affect its meaning. Take a look at the color red, for example. A darker shade of red might evoke drama and passion in Western culture, while a softer shade (like pink) might elicit thoughts of softness and gentleness

Remember, colors can also have personal meanings. One couple may associate the color “blue” with sadness (aka, “the blues”). A different couple, however, may think of whimsy and playfulness. Ever hear Rhapsody in Blue?

With this in mind, make sure to consider your own personal preferences and associations when selecting your wedding color palette.

35 Unique Wedding Chuppah Ideas From Top Design Teams

PartySlate’s Regional Lead Katie Leviton knew that she wanted her wedding chuppah to be different from the others that she had seen throughout the years. “I went to 12 weddings prior to my own,” she tells us, “and I really wanted our chuppah to be a center focus of the event.”

Many couples share Katie’s wish. Nina Vosko, Director of Sales and Marketing at Yanni Design Studio, a luxury event design company, shares, “The chuppah design is one of the most important elements of a Jewish wedding. The ceremony that occurs between the newlywed couple underneath the chuppah symbolizes two souls becoming one and the creation of a Jewish home.”

Chuppah designs continue to evolve over the years. “In the Jewish religion,” Vosko tells us, “a chuppah requires a cloth canopy and four poles to symbolize the creation of a jewish home.” From there, styles diverge. Vosko continues, “Once a couple comes in for their design consultation, we build off of their design ideas while adding a YDS touch!” You’ll find some of their gorgeous designs below, ranging from one style to the next.

Katie’s own chuppah, designed by HMR Designs, began with her wedding style. “I wanted my wedding to be modern, with the chuppah as the wow statement for the ceremony. I originally saw a whimsical chuppah with strung flowers and loved how different it looked,” she told us. “But after finding a photo of one with crystals, I was sold. I loved that there were no flowers and it sparkled in every photo.” The beauty of the design continued to dazzle guests even after the ceremony ended. “We used the ‘roof’ of the chuppah as a canopy over the band, and it was the perfect addition to the stage,” she tells us.

Finding the right Jewish wedding chuppah is an important part of your wedding to-do list. As Katie explains, “To this day, three years later,  I still have people compliment the chuppah.” Keep reading to discover some of our favorite chuppah designs to complement your own wedding style. We’ll also connect you with the best design teams in the industry. With PartySlate, planning a wedding has never been easier.

Best Spring Wedding & Event Ideas: PartySlate’s 2024 Spring Hot List

Welcome to spring: a season defined by longer days, warmer weather — and a surge of celebrations. As 2024’s heightened wedding and event season kicks off, new seasonal trends are emerging alongside it.

Like any spring clean up, it’s out with the old and in with the new. Party hosts and guests alike are craving fresh spring wedding ideas, seasonal party inspiration, and crisp color palettes. We’ve rounded up the 13 trends you’re going to see everywhere over the coming months — and will want to adopt for your own occasion.

1. Icy Blue Hues

posted by: Levy Lighting NYC | MIA || photographer: Elizabeth Burgi Photography | posted by: Bright Blue Events || photographer: Jose Villa Photography | posted by: Mosaic Inc

From the runways to ceremony aisles, icy blue hues are going to be popular all season long. Not to be mistaken for classic or preppy blue palettes, this color scheme will reinvent how we picture blue at a spring wedding or event. While these icy blue moments can vary in shade, their overall tone brings a cool presence to a warm spring day.

2. Sheer Statements

photographer: JOHN CAIN PHOTOGRAPHY  | posted by: Acrylic Sticks || posted by photographer: Vicki Grafton Photography || photographer: John & Joseph Photography | posted by: Ashley Chanel Events

When it comes to creating a memorable design, sometimes less is more. Nothing makes that more clear than a sheer décor moment. Acrylic menus, engraved cocktails, or even a glass place card cloche can make ordinary event elements feel elevated and exciting — not to mention, perfectly light and airy for spring.

3. Butter Yellow Color Blocks

photographer: Kelly Hornberger Photography | posted by: Chic Bahamas Weddings and Events || photographer: dani. fine photography | posted by: KG Events & Design || posted by photographer: Dmitry Shumanev

Smooth like butter, this soft shade of yellow is finally getting its day in the sun — and we can’t wait to start churning out inspiration. From photo ops to floral notes and monochromatic bouquets, you can expect to see the subtle yet stimulating hue go from background color to starring role in 2024 palettes.

4. Elevated Fringe

posted by photographer: JESUS DUPAUX || photographer: THE GOLD COLLECTIVE | posted by: Found Rental Co.

Formally associated with bohemian weddings and events, fringe is back. However, it’s swapping its boho reputation for a place in the Western world. This new take on fringe makes the perfect statement piece from above or below, with layers that resemble the fringe angled on a denim jacket or Western pants. If the release of Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter” taught us anything, it’s that country aesthetics are most certainly peaking.

5. Subtly Serpentine Tables

photographer: Jessa Schifilliti | posted by: La Affitto || posted by: RentQuest

Over the past year, we’ve seen an influx in weaving wedding aisles. So it was only a matter of time before we saw the serpentine table trend slide back into action (something we haven’t seen trending since 2019). This time around, designers are putting a mix of rounds together to resemble one long winding tablescape. The compact look can be further exaggerated by alternating each table’s linen pattern or color.

6. Custom Embossing

photographer: Shaimaa Photography | posted by: Events by Picnics In The City

Experiential entertainment doesn’t have to be music. We’ve seen permanent jewelry stations and tattoo artists surprise guests at celebrations of all kinds. This season, people planning events are getting even more creative. Depending on the theme of an event, guests might receive luggage tags, passport holders, small bags, or useful items for spring and summer to customize with on-site embossers. Keepsakes you’ll remember forever aren’t just party favors — they make for memorable party experiences.

7. Polly Pocket Pairings

photographer: Jarrod J. Photo | posted by: Found Rental Co. || photographer: Perry Vaile | posted by: Floressence Flowers || photographer: Smith House Photo | posted by: Industry City

Say goodbye to Barbie, and hello to your old Polly Pocket. From fashion to fêtes, Polly Pocket palettes are about to saturate spring with flirtatious tones and vibrant color schemes. Think of color blocking — but you can only use bright neon shades and sharp borders. Fun and fresh, this spring style reminds us that popular trends can come from even the smallest sources of inspiration.

8. Drum Soloists

photographer: Jessica Bordner Photography | posted by: The Colony Palm Beach

Have you heard? Drum solos are becoming the main event. Spring occasions like showers, birthdays, and corporate gatherings — where guests want to mingle and be able to hear one another — are the perfect time for mood-setting background music. The sound of drums evokes a tropical feeling, perfect for warm-weather occasions and outdoor soirées.

9. Draped Ceilings

photographer: Adonye Jaja | posted by: KEHOE DESIGNS || photographer: Anna Anikina Photography | posted by: Revelry Event Designers

Billowing drapery is about to be the ceiling installation of the season. Forget foliage and florals; fabric offers a versatile and eye-catching way to decorate from above. From eclectic folds to orderly arrangements, and neutral tones to pops of color, draping your venue’s ceiling is the perfect way to add originality to a spring wedding or event. Trust us, your guests will be looking up all night.

10. Long-Stem Roses

photographer: JC Lemon Photography | posted by: Delivering Experiences || photographer: Jarrod J. Photo | posted by: Found Rental Co. || photographer: Sarah Porter | posted by: Enjoué Studio Events

We know what you’re thinking: “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking….” However, long stem roses stand apart from your average spring flower. Forget tulips, daffodils, lilacs, peonies, and other traditional, dainty spring botanicals. Instead, lean into roses in their most rugged form. Keep the thorns, leaves, and length — and you’ve got a chic arrangement for a 2024 spring wedding idea.

11. Bouquet Baskets

photographer: Camera Shi Photography | posted by: Valley & Company Events || posted by: Vow + Voyage

Bouquet baskets are exactly as they sound. These spring-forward floral vessels, specifically designed for wedding party bouquets, add seasonal style to weddings and portraits. As more couples opt for wedding party members to choose their own attire, bouquet baskets provide a clear constant between your loved ones — balancing out photos and making your wedding party look more cohesive.

12. Full-Table Centerpieces

photographer: Jonathan Connolly Photography | posted by: YSD Events

We like our spring centerpieces like we like our dinner plates — packed to the brim. Heavily decorated centerpieces — low in height with lots of depth — are taking over. Whether it’s an all-candle clad arrangement like this viral setup, or a floral-filled tablescape that spans the furniture’s length and width, this new take on centerpiece design is making more room for conversation about (and across) the table.

13. Meal 2.0

photographer: Shaimaa Photography | posted by: Events by Picnics In The City || posted by: Events by Picnics In The City || photographer: Lorren & Braman | posted by: The Major Food Events Space

We all know the feeling of leaving a party and immediately ordering a late night bite for delivery. Instead of offering guests hangover kits or other frequently seen favors, give them what they really want: a second meal. Make it to-go, from a bagel and cream cheese bag to custom-boxed burgers and pizza. Your guests won’t forget that final farewell in the form of food.
