26 Event & Wedding Photo Ideas With Our Favorite Images of 2020 [Photos]

We have to say it — we’re glad that 2020 is in our rearview mirror. But it is still worth a look back. While the year presented struggles galore, it also gave us the opportunity to learn new ways to connect with each other. What we discovered: people still want to celebrate together.

Last year, gatherings took new forms with Zoom anniversary parties, driveway proms, drive-by birthday celebrations, backyard socially-distanced weddings, virtual fundraising galas, and more. We saw unparalleled creativity from the events industry — and luckily, skilled photographers were around to capture every special moment.

Behold 26 event and wedding photo ideas to inspire all of your upcoming events (whatever form they take). Some of these images were captured during the global pandemic, and they depict couples who wanted to marry now and celebrate later as well as groups who worked with their event teams to celebrate safely.

Yet more of the event and wedding photo ideas featured here were from the beginning of the year, when we had no idea how lucky we were to be gathering together at all. Some of the images might be from years past, but just shared on PartySlate this year.

Whenever these photos were actually taken, we’re convinced that they will make you as happy as they’ve made us. In these images we see unfettered joy, special glances, secret moments, glorious eventscapes, and more.

Most of all, we see resilience. Celebrations are already coming back — intimately and safely — and we know that in the not-so-distant future, we will be able to clink our glasses and crowd dance floors once again. In the meantime, find event and wedding photo ideas here (and don’t forget to save your favorites by clicking the “heart” symbol on the images and/or events you love).

16 Rustic Wedding Ideas [to Make Your Country-Chic Dreams Come True]

We’ve searched through thousands of photos on PartySlate to bring you the very best rustic-wedding ideas. Imagine a barn transformed with glittering candlelight, endless garlands of greenery, and suspended lanterns. Or picture an outdoor ceremony with a wrought-iron arch and wine casks laden with fresh blooms. Whether your wedding celebration is large or small, hosted at a private event space or closer to home, a rustic-chic wedding never goes out of style.

Jennifer Kraft of Kraft Events tells us, “Rustic-style weddings continue to be popular because they offer a less formal environment without losing any of the beauty and magic of a wedding.”

But wait, there’s more. For couples who want to know how to decorate for a rustic wedding, Jennifer suggests, “more casual event elements and materials that allow them to break away from traditional expectations and design.” She goes on to say, “Elements of wood, metal, wildflowers, and sustainable products can all be included and fit into an event format that may not necessarily resemble the standard seated, 3-course-plated meal.  It allows the couple to experience a wedding celebration that represents who they are, as well as their preferred lifestyle.”

What does this mean for you?

Read on to discover 16 rustic-chic wedding ideas that bring the beauty of the countryside to your timeless celebration — while offering modern, elegant, or glamorous twists to a much-beloved style.

28 Catering Trends for a Mouthwatering 2021 [Photos]

The New Year always means new catering trends and food styles. 2021, however, will mark far more than just a new year with new fads.

As 2020 draws to a close, and we look toward the future, we are filled with hope for a better year. We yearn to connect with loved ones, visit new places, and celebrate the important milestones in our lives.

As restaurants begin to reopen, and celebrations return in all of their glory, we at PartySlate are excited to predict what new catering trends are on the horizon.

While the end of the pandemic is finally in sight, we expect catering and events to maintain certain safety precautions implemented over the last year. Keep on the lookout for single-servings, covered dishes, and sanitary packagings.

But that’s not all. We expect 2021 to be a year defined by ingenuity and innovation — after all, caterers and other event professionals spent a long year overcoming challenges and reinventing themselves.

Anticipate creative catering displays and a meticulous attention to detail. Look for new colors and sensory engagement. Of course, keep an eye out for a resurgence of virtual food kits and catering classes. After all, the party is always better when everyone (including out-of-town guests) can attend.

Join PartySlate as we explore the hottest catering trends that we expect to see in 2021. Moreover, check out PartySlate for all of your party-planning needs. Whether you are looking to connect with venues and vendors or simply find inspiration, PartySlate is here to help you celebrate in style.

Here’s to 2021…

Safety Precautions With Food

As the proverb goes, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” COVID-19 has forced all of us to rethink the way we serve food. Over the last year, caterers and other event professionals have used innovative thinking and problem-solving skills to adapt to the times.

At PartySlate, we’ve seen adaptations on everything from individually served meals to buffet lines. While we remain hopeful that a vaccine is on the horizon and events will return in full capacity, we expect these new safety-precaution trends to continue in 2021 (and even beyond). After all, making guests feel safe and cared for never goes out of style.

Rethink the Rainbow With These Unexpected Hues

We tend to take certain things for granted: Wedding cakes are white, strawberries are red. However, 2021 is the year to let go of certain preconceived notions.

Food, as we know it, is about to “try on” some new colors. Look for edgy and original trends in 2021 like black wedding cakes or gold-plated fruit.

For now, it’s time to rediscover what the rainbow has to offer.

Backyard Dining is About to Get Delicious

Backyard weddings and other events are more popular than ever. As celebrations move outdoors, it’s time to reimagine al fresco dining.

We expect 2021 to be the year where restaurants come to you in the form of food trucks and where camping “snacks” gets elevated to gourmet cuisine.

Think of your backyard as the next Michelin-starred restaurant — with help from the right caterers, of course.

Freedom to Move With Handheld Fare

As much as we love sit-down dinners, we are excited to see how the classic cocktail hour is influencing meals across the country. Outdoor celebrations and social-distanced gatherings mean caterers are thinking outside the box (or in this case, the dinner table).

Handheld fare allows guests to mingle freely while enjoying delicious cuisine. Talk about a move in the right direction.

Shared Meals Across the Globe With Virtual Entertainment

Even as in-person celebrations return, we expect to see a component of virtual and hybrid events continue into 2021 and beyond. After all, virtual events allow guests to overcome the obstacles of time and distance.

When it comes to planning a virtual or hybrid event, it’s important to think beyond the Zoom call. Keep guests satiated and engaged with food kits and remote catering classes. Sharing a meal in two different time zones is about to become easier — not to mention, fun.

21. Remote Catering Classes Bring Us Closer Together

Indulgent Sensory Experiences

We have a new appreciation for taste and smell these days — and it looks like caterers do too. Look for dramatic sensory experiences (along with your dinner) in 2021.

After all, aromas and taste go hand-in-hand. Cue the edible perfumes, warming flames, and scented coasters. After a year of paired down gatherings and late-night dinners over Zoom calls, we’re ready to indulge all of our senses.

We always love cocktails with a twist. This summer dinner soirée, planned by Amanda Price Events, featured an updated Old Fashioned with smoked rum, orange bitters, and Madagascar vanilla bean. Quinn Richard, owner of Cocktail+Creative, tells us how “it’s complemented with a malty, bitter cocoa Guinness ice ball and sealed in a jar to be infused with 100% Nicaraguan ligero tobacco leaves.” The result: “A bold smokey flavor giving this cocktail an alluring sophistication.”

Cheers to Creative Cocktails

You may be sensing a theme here. 2021 is the year where creativity reaches new heights — both with catering and other celebratory trends. With that in mind, we look forward to seeing the art of bartending continue to flourish.

Expect craft cocktails to benefit from unique garnishes and mimosa stations to experiment with new flavors. There will be so many reasons to toast as in-person gatherings come back. So why not do it in style?

26. Go for Unique Garnishes

Brunch and Mother’s Day generally go hand in hand — and this annual Mother’s Day brunch in Chicago, hosted at The Estate by Gene & Georgetti, had unique details that made it extra special. A green, pink, and teal color palette offered a vibrant spring color palette, and guests enjoyed special dishes and treats from the reputable in-house catering company.

Best of all, the spacious brunch venue offered elegance and plenty of room for roaming.

This brunch wedding was more invigorating than the best cup of coffee. We love the luxe velvet lounge areas, boxwood backdrops, and lucite chuppah with encased florals. And we just adore an outdoor brunch venue when the weather is nice.

In addition to the richly-hued décor, a Bloody Mary and smoothie bar starred in plenty of Instagram posts with its unique geometric shelving. We love an Instagrammable moment at celebrations.

4. Get Creative with Place Cards

Chic gold accents — from sleek chairs to complementary flatware — elevated an otherwise-understated dusty blue wedding color palette at this Washington, D.C. celebration, hosted at The Hay Adams.

Unique luggage tag place cards added an unexpected element that also doubled as a takeaway gift for guests. One brunch party idea we love is little elements of surprise like this for your guests; they really make a daytime gathering feel considered and well-planned.

5. Consider Square Tables to Encourage Conversation

Note to self: large square tables are the new round tables. Pacific Standard Time was the perfect restaurant venue for this intimate brunch event in Chicago.

The corporate client chose a floor plan and setup that clearly fostered discussion and conversation, while restaurant staff worked to provide its guests with a delicious and fulfilling breakfast. We appreciate how the modern space requires little in the way of décor for a chic brunch.

We happen to adore a daytime event as we can’t think of a better way to spend daylight hours than celebrating a special moment with friends and family.

6. Curate Beautiful Place Settings & Menus

How do you throw a good brunch party?

When it comes to throwing a great brunch party, a skilled team is your best resource. Hire an event planner. They will help you every step of the way from choosing a fun or elegant theme and composing the perfect venue to developing a delectable menu and selecting a photographer to capture it all.

When it comes to brunch — just like all events — the more personal and creative your gathering, the more enjoyable and memorable it will be for you and your guests. Consider every moment from how you will welcome your guests to how you will thoughtfully seat them and you might send them off with care.

One brunch party idea for welcoming your guests is to serve a signature cocktail upon arrival. When it comes to seating your guests, you can get creative with a seating chart. For example, if your event style is bohemian, use dreamcatchers as seating cards or if you’re having a rainbow theme, use cards in every color of the rainbow for a stunning display.

When it comes to tabletops, of course your décor will reflect your chosen style and theme, but you also have an opportunity to offer something a little special at each seat. You can write a personal note to each guest tucked into their napkins or have sprigs of fresh rosemary or mint on each plate to heighten their senses.

Guests will remember your party because it was a special event, but you can also send them home with memories in the form of photos or a small, meaningful gift. A photo booth is a fun addition to any event and allows guests to capture fun moments as they happen and take them home that day.

In terms of brunch party favors, you can theme to the event or season or simply something you love. For example, at daytime holiday event, you can send guests home with Christmas ornaments. We also love the idea of giving things from a city you love — bagels straight from New York or infamous Garrett’s Popcorn from Chicago.

What do you serve at a brunch party?

The beauty of hosting a midday celebration, is that you get to serve your favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. Some ideas:

  • Mix it up with sweet and savory dishes
  • Offer some menu items as passed bites and others at each table
  • Make sure there is a “wow” moment with one dish that is either:
    • interactive (donuts with lots of toppings for a custom experience)
    • dramatic (a towering display of fried chicken and waffles)
    • infamous (macarons straight from Laduree)
    • surprising (individual ice towers with single servings of fresh seafood)
  • Serve the meal in small courses to keep guests engaged
  • Curate a custom cocktail with a creative name

There are some items that are always surefire hits at brunch: cinnamon rolls, crepes, omelets, shrimp cocktail, steak and eggs, fresh fruit, Mimosas, and Bloody Mary cocktails.

You can also choose dishes that adhere to your chosen theme.

For example, a tropical-themed gathering with tabletops filled with palm leaves and exotic florals would be a good fit for island juices like guava or fresh coconut water (served right in the coconut) and a rice dish.

A rustic celebration might feature tables of candles flickering in mason jars and colorful wildflowers along with sips of fine rye and charred chicken with a side of biscuits.

Other popular themes include 1920s, Mardi Gras, Paris, rainbow, disco, and space. Styles can range from beach bohemian to elegant mountain, and oh-so-many more.

13 Mini & Memorable Bar and Bat Mitzvah Parties [Photos]

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony is a special milestone worthy of celebration. A year of change, 2020 welcomed new experiences and traditions. Specifically, we love all of the inspiring small Bar and Bat mitzvah celebrations we’re seeing. Our team at PartySlate loves how these thirteen micro Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties reimagined their original party plans in order to follow COVID-19 regulations — while still amazing guests with out-of-the-box ideas.

If your celebration can’t be big, why not make it bold? The saying “quality over quantity” definitely applies to these Bar and Bat mitzvah celebrations.

In recognition of new safety procedures, creative party favors include branded masks and take-home hand sanitizers. Catering took a different approach at these Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties by directly delivering food to guests from a mini food truck parked right outside the venue or pre-portioned into chic individual containers. And friends and family still danced the night away — but under the stars and on the streets.

This outdoor luncheon catered to sweet tooths and fulfilled salty cravings. The Bar Mitzvah party incorporated the accent colors of blue and neon yellow into the food and drinks as well.

A non-buffet celebration is the safer choice during a pandemic, and lucky guests were served their own plates of either salmon or Chick-fil-A. To top it off, an ice cream truck was parked right outside the event.

Mini personalized hand sanitizers were distributed and encouraged for use. Black, sleek masks were also gifted to guests to maintain safety and style. Beautiful transparent pink balloons hovered above guests and a towering wall of pink and cream flowers created the perfect backdrop.

But it didn’t stop there. We love the colorful tie-dye station that was followed by a sushi-bar and many other food options. This Micro Bat Mitzvah was filled with memorable ideas that sparked creativity and delighted tastebuds.

A Bat or Bar Mitzvah party is a celebration that kids look forward to for many years. While the COVID-19 pandemic turned many 2020 plans upside down, these kids found a way to celebrate this important milestone.

During this difficult year, PartySlate has continued to recognize small celebrations. This year showed us the beauty of outdoor venues, the importance of making your guests feel included (even if they’re attending virtually), and how to host an epic party — all while following COVID-19 guidelines.

PartySlate’s State of Celebrations: What Inspired You in 2020

The struggle was real in 2020. A worldwide pandemic put our lives in peril and halted everyday activities, but it also brought new heroes to the forefront as healthcare workers finally got the notice they deserve. Our national news was dominated by the violence of police brutality and riots, but also peaceful marches and mobilization on social media that brought long-needed attention to America’s race relations.

When it came to celebrations, large events were postponed, but smaller gatherings flourished. We witnessed a renewed appreciation for celebrating together. More than anything, one message is clear: We still want to share our most meaningful moments with the special people in our lives.

As such, we saw an increased interest and creativity around producing safe celebrations. In fact, it was a year rife with event innovation. Entrances were modified to allow for social distancing, COVID-19 testing and temperature checks were done on-site, sanitizer and masks were provided (themed to the party, of course). We also saw the rise of beautiful new seating designs and catering ingenuity. Technology stepped in to allow groups to connect and gather virtually in new and exciting ways.

Such a unique year requires closer examination. In PartySlate‘s first “State of Celebrations,” we are gathering and sharing insight from what you liked, favorited, shared, saved, Pinned, and more to remind you what inspired you in 2020 — and predicting what’s to come in the new year.

Balloons are Decorating the Most Elegant of Events

Most Viewed Events of 2020

More than half of PartySlate‘s most viewed events of 2020 feature stunning balloon installations. They spark the imagination with whimsy and elevate celebrations with elegance. We’re seeing balloons as stand-ins for arches, backdrops, ceiling décor, and more. In terms of hues, ombré and rainbows are making 2020 more beautiful (and bearable).

Party Themes are Alive & Well

Most Searched Themes & Most Popular Articles Published in 2020

Our top on-site searches as well as a few of our most read articles published in 2020 show an increased interest in creative theming. As events shrunk in size this year, they grew in creativity — and there’s no better way to tie together every detail of a celebration than with a cohesive theme that can be expressed everywhere from the entrance and the ceiling décor to the fare being served and even the guest dress code.

Your top searches on PartySlate included halloween-themed parties (which can happen any time of year), circus motifs, and neon celebrations (which had such strong interest that we designed an entire article around the theme this year).

Some of our most read articles of the year also show your interest in creative themes for all kinds of events, even those hosted virtually.

Monochrome is Magic

Most Saved Images on Idea Slates

We are seeing more and more events built around a single-hued palette. Textures and lighting are being employed to create depth in grand monochrome visions.

Ever since Pantone named Ultra Violet their Color of the Year for 2018, the hue has been setting the stage for parties with a capital P. Violet creates a festive scene for dance-all-night parties and cocktails clinked at midnight (and beyond).

Meanwhile, as Billy Idol crooned in the 80s, white weddings are still the most popular. And we’re not just talking about the dress, but entire soirées positively drenched in white from floor to ceiling. Mixed metals and glass elements allow white florals to take center stage at lush ceremonies and receptions.

Technology Allows Events to Continue

Most Saved Events on Idea Slates

The most saved events on Idea Slates show the breadth of the types of celebrations on PartySlate as well as the types of events that you’re actively planning right now. Specifically, weddings, birthdays, and corporate events are not cancelled. You are still actively planning these gatherings for the future or adapting to our current limitations.

Technology is playing a vital role in the latter, offering party hosts the ability to entertain a small group in person while including a much larger number of guests from remote locations. Projection mapping isn’t just creating event dreamscapes, but is integrating faraway guests more fully into the in-person event experience. We predict that these new elements of virtual events will be around for a long time.

While many of the most saved events of 2020 were from years past, one of this year’s celebrations perfectly shows how technology can be leveraged for an elegant and inclusive event.

Hybrid Wedding in NYC

On of your most saved events of the year was this hybrid wedding. It featured extraordinary technical features that elevated the décor as well as connected guests near and far. It is appropriate for our times that this event was so well-loved as it is  a shining example of people find innovative ways to still share special moments even in difficult times.

Events Have Moved Outdoors

Most Liked Posts of 2020 on Instagram

It’s no surprise that 90% of PartySlate’s most-liked posts on Instagram depict outdoor celebrations. Not only does 2020 have us feeling cooped up, but it’s also safer to gather out in the fresh air. Your most-liked photos depict parties in gardens and backyards, next to vineyards and the ocean, under afternoon skies and lights strung over tables. Sigh.

You’re also still loving more of last year’s trends. Hello again circular arches at beautiful weddings and pampas grass lending its feathery elegance to altars, ceilings, and tabletops.

A Return to the Natural & Neutral

Most Saved Posts of 2020 on Instagram

It’s one thing to “like” a post on Instagram — but it’s quite another to “save” it. That means you want to revisit the image, that it inspires you.

We’re seeing a return to the natural and neutral. There’s an infusion of greenery and raw wood — as well as the queen of event neutrals and one of our faves: sand-hued pampas grass.

When color is employed, it’s in palettes not found on the color wheel: white, cream, and black.

Gathering Safely is Top of Mind

Most Shared Posts of 2020 on Instagram

Sharing is caring — and sometimes a scene is so gorgeous and an event so memorable, that you just can’t keep it to yourself.

The events of this year have us all considering how to gather safely, and while a full five of your top 10 are food-related, two of them are especially timely: personal charcuterie boards and tiny individually-boxed gourmet pizzas.

Individualized presentations like these show the ingenuity that caterers have shown this year to ensure that their fare is served both beautifully and safely.

We love that PartySlate’s Instagram is serving as inspiration for all of your future celebrations (and current dreams).

Dramatic Visions Require Talented Event Teams

Most Saved Images of 2020 on Pinterest

Pinterest can often tend towards do-it-yourself visions, but the event elements most Pinned from PartySlate tell a different story. They spin a tale of elevated celebrations rich with the kind of attention to detail and over-the-top visions that only a team of talented event professionals can conjure.

Your Pins have told us that you love engaging entrances — whether it’s a clown beckoning into an off-kilter circus, a glass-like wedding aisle, a unique iridescent brand installation, or a path created by criss-crossing neon beams of light. You’re also fond of a good dose of dramatic design like a stunning ballroom with a ceiling of inverted alabaster blooms or a celebration that glowed lavender under the desert sky.

It’s no easy task to sum our most Pinned images, but one message is clear: we all still yearn to gather and are always looking for inspired ways to do so. And often, that requires the help of a team of talented vendors to realize a grand vision.

We find ourselves hopeful as we head into 2021. This year has been a great teacher with lessons on resilience, priorities and the importance of staying connected with others. We’re looking forward to gathering with each other in the new year.

Working tirelessly to treat patients and putting everyone else before themselves, they deserve to feel special. 1. One Night Only: A Brady Bunch Reboot

Austin, TX

“Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.” Are we aging ourselves? This backyard birthday party did a brilliant job at bringing a vintage family favorite back to life. From the retro furniture to the eclectic patterns reminiscent of old school wallpaper, this soirée successfully sent waves of nostalgia through our screens with the photos alone. The host family’s rounded pool edges and landscaping just so happen to correspond with typical homes from the 70s (and perhaps even prompted this unique party theme). So kicking off our list is the at-home 50th birthday party that recreated the purest of pure 1970s sitcoms, The Brady Bunch

2. The Fyre Festival (That Actually Fulfilled Its Promises)

Los Angeles, CA

Who could forget Billy McFarland and the infamous Fyre Festival of 2017? If you’ve been living under a rock, let us bring you up to speed. Influencers and supermodels alike (unknowingly) promoted a fraudulent, Coachella-like music festival in the Bahamas — and when attendees arrived it was anything but. Pillows were few and far between, and if you thought you were getting a decent meal — forget it. That being said, this remake of the Fyre Festival, which poked fun at the mishaps and debacles that came out of “paradise,” was an easy addition to the list. Except at this one, the booze was flowing, water bottles were abundant, and the cuisine was divine.

3. This Bat Mitzvah Defied Gravity — and All Our Expectations

Creative Wicked themed Bat Mitzvah | PartySlate
photographer: VMAstudios

Palm Beach, FL

We absolutely love a creative Bar or Bat Mitzvah party theme — and when this celebration hit PartySlate.com, it was instantly “Popular” among our team. A few of the many details we’re obsessed with: the mini broom place card holders, the totally enchanted living centerpieces, textured linens that magically brought each table to life, the musical’s famous story line cleverly embedded into menus, and so much more. We can only imagine guests of all ages flocked to the “Wicked”-scrawled dance floor as an upbeat remix to “Defying Gravity” filled the pre-pandemic party room. Speaking of entertainment, this event introduced us to the concept of a “TikTok” booth in place of photo booths, and we can only assume it was a huge hit among the tweens in attendance.

4. A Garden (of Good & Evil) Wedding is Absolute Magic

Creative good and evil themed wedding | PartySlate
photographer: Belathée Photography

New York, NY

We didn’t think we could love anything more than a magical, garden-inspired wedding. That is, until this “Midnight in the garden of good & evil” reception came along. As you can imagine, guests were treated to plenty of surprises, from a snake charmer to a forbidden forest menu, and more. Dark jewel tones, velvet-lined furniture, and ruby red florals set the mood for a one-of-a-kind celebration. The bride and groom, of course, stole the show sporting oversized wings and glitter masks that radiated whimsy through our screens — and made for the most unique wedding portraits we’ve ever seen.

5. This Construction Party Needs No Work

Construction themed third birthday creative idea | PartySlate

Charleston, SC

Yes, we’ve viewed construction-themed kids parties before, but the execution of this birthday’s design was one of the most creative we’ve seen. If you love a good pun, the photos from this backyard bash will delight you, from detailed shots of the gift “dump” to the food signage that will make you want to “dig in.” Signature neon orange filled the space, from construction cone “cups” to corresponding pool floats, centerpieces, and more. Plus, the intricately designed cake pops will blow you away (and they just so happen to be on our list of kids party trends for 2021).

6. Let it Be the Beatles Theme

Creative vinyl idea for a centerpiece | PartySlate
photographer: Marlon McLeod Photogaphy

Winnipeg, MB, Canada

This theme needs no introduction. A progressive dinner party took guests on a trip through The Beatles’ career (we know, it’s brilliant). Guests started the night at a black and white dinner (symbolizing the group’s early days and their iconic promotional photos), and later found themselves at a colorful reception reflective of the group’s wilder era filled with stardom and success. We can’t decide which setting is our favorite, but we will point out the chic record centerpieces that caught our eyes (and our ears) from the start.

7. Cotton Candy Tastes Sweeter With a Vintage Twist

Creative cotton candy theme party idea | PartySlate
photographer: Corbin Gurkin

San Francisco, CA

Trust us, this is the creative party theme you never knew you needed. Rows of cotton candy-inspired bouquets spun into sky blue and taffy pink linens to create the sweetest of dinner party designs. The backyard celebration’s wispy, whimsical pastel arrangements, twinkling tent, vintage glassware, and heavenly balloon wall melted together into a mesmerizing assortment of shapes, hues, and textures. We never knew an event design could make us crave so much sugar (and it’s not just because of the fluffy passed cotton candy pictured in the event album).

Myrtle Beach, SC

We love when two lobsters get a fairytale ending. This groom-to-be surprised his now fiancé with a Friends-themed proposal. A replica of the show’s iconic Central Perk couch sat in front of a flowing fountain and adjacent a vintage floor lamp — a strikingly familiar setup (see the sitcom’s theme song for reference). No one told us we were gonna cry today, but this couple is winning over our hearts with their adorable (and 2020-approved) milestone moment.

9. Oh, The Pastel Places You’ll (Wish You Could) Go

Pastel creative theme baby shower | PartySlate
photographer: Shawn Connell Weddings

Quogue, NY

This baby shower did succeed, indeed, at bringing one of our childhood favorites to life. Aside from the design’s swirls and twirls of color, the pastel palette added an extra layer of fun to the backyard bash. The catering alone makes us want to jump into the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss with treats including martini milkshakes (with sprinkle-frosted rims) and fluffy passed whoopie pies. Another reason to love this summer soirée? Upon entry, each guest received a color coded bracelet indicating their comfort level at the social-distanced celebration (an element that just so happens to be on our trends list for 2021).

10. Beach Clubs Brought Back(yard)

Beach club themed kids birthday party | PartySlate

Miami, FL

Okay we’ll admit it, we’re totally jealous of this little girl. She was treated to the perfect backyard birthday bash inspired by her hometown of Miami’s luxe beach clubs (we think Mom and Dad may have had a say in this one). Branded French fries, hair braiding stations, and a mini “totes and sweets” cart are elements we’re adding to our own adult birthday wish list. From the chicest strawberry cake to a private DJ and custom, kid-friendly beverages, this party proves the perfect venue might be closer than you think.

11. Dive Into a Pool-less Pool Party

Creative 2020 Bat Mitzvah pool themed party | PartySlate

New York, NY

Making a splash without water seemed like an impossible feat — that is, until we laid eyes on this incredibly unique Bat Mitzvah party theme. The guest of honor’s love for a summer soirée shined through thanks to elements like a tennis-inspired cocktail hour activity and pool bag party favors. Our favorite part has to be the LED dance floor and stage backdrop duo, which looked so reminiscent of a sun kissed pool, we can hardly believe guests couldn’t jump in. Other details to admire: The chic blue chandelier with glistening crystals reminiscent of small water droplets, metallic-coated desserts, and a sparkling soda bar.

12. Sign Us Up for This Anti Summer Camp

Syosset, NY

When we talk about camp, it’s usually synonymous with summer. But this kids birthday party introduced us to camp in a whole new season — and we’re never going back. Traditional plaid linens, plush faux fur throws, evergreen foliage, and a hot apple cider station made this the coziest camp of all. The sweetest part might be the dessert bar, consisting of a snow-dusted birthday cake, mini moose antler-topped confections, and rustic signage bearing cake pops. “River water” bottles with custom plaid coverings and a “supplies station” confirmed that good things come in small (creative) packages.

13. Anthropologie is the New Boho

A anthropolgie-chic wedding idea from 2020 | PartySlate

Bryan, TX

This bride wanted a wedding inspired by the boho-chic store, Anthropologie. Walk into an Anthro store, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by garments saturated in color, patterns, and texture. The brand’s interior design line is the perfect blend of traditional and boho: two beautiful wedding styles. It’s rare to find a unique wedding theme so thoroughly executed from start to finish, but this celebration managed to do so from the moment the bridal party started getting ready to the newlywed’s grand exit. The bride and her squad got ready in a Victorian home covered in floral-patterned wallpaper and steel blue exteriors. The special women in the bride’s life (from mother to bridesmaids) wore what we would call Anthro-approved gowns — not to mention the groom’s eclectic pink tie. From the venue’s loft-style brick wall to colorful goblet glasses, and delicate, floral-patterned china, we’d agree this wedding was the “epitome of Anthropologie-chic.”

14. “Black Is King” Makes for a Beyoncé-Approved Birthday

This kids birthday party took two scenes from Beyoncé’s Black Is King film and turned them into absolute birthday magic. The backyard affair was filled with Instagrammable photo ops for all ages, from the tea party’s oversized chess board and living wall, to the matte black balloon installation, floral-adorned throne, and red rose-draped cheetah convertible. The celebration took an innovative approach to safety measures, with a “faux” birthday cake, which preserved the experience of blowing out birthday candles (and saved the real confections from any resulting germs). To this family (and event team, of course) we say a job well done for making a theme out of one of 2020’s most powerful films.

15. It’s the Retro Rainbow for Us

You know we love a rainbow design — but pair it with a 70s theme, and we’re simply over the moon. We’re especially obsessed with the innovative use of florals throughout. To start, the bride accessorized with a baby’s breath hair piece. Each bridesmaid (and the bride herself) carried a monochrome bouquet (consisting of one flower type each). The bride’s crisp white tulips met bunches of sky blue orchids and radiant flamingo lilies, which created one of the most chic and eclectic rainbows we’ve ever seen as the women stood together. As for the reception, a true ROYGBIV arrangement created a mesmerizing centerpiece — and the only reason we’d pull our gaze away from the floral-lined table would be to stare at the dreamy red and white lanterns lighting up the room from above.

16. A Night Under the Stars — and in the Sky

Aviation themed birthday celebration | PartySlate

Westlake Village, CA

Go ahead and take your seat. This outdoor dinner party transported guests to an aviation-inspired experience. Bundles of white hydrangeas formed cloud-like arrangements across the table, while LED-lit globes and twinkling, star-like candles seamlessly took guests from day to night. A “check in” station, passport photo favors, and a suitcase-inspired cake were just a few of the details that make this unique party theme one of our new favorites (and best performing on Instagram).

Ventura, CA

A modern video game brought to life. We rarely see a Bar Mitzvah with two distinct parties, but this one takes the cake for innovation. Young guests were transported by an on-theme bus to find themselves at a “boot camp” where their real life skills were tested. Following outdoor activities came a perfectly camouflaged reception thanks to patterned linens, menus, and napkins, lounge areas coated in rustic netting, and custom labeled water bottles, among other exciting details.
