13 Catering Trends You’ll See at Every Party in 2023

At PartySlate, we are always looking for creative ways to take events to the next level. We watch new event ideas come and go every year, and this year we are spotting the hottest catering trends that are to come in 2023. We also reached out to some of the top caterers around the country to get their predictions of what will be trending going into the new year.

One of our favorite approaches to catering is an increased focus on sustainability and supporting local businesses. Below, we have dedicated a section to highlighting some of the best catering companies that take this sustainability mission to heart. From growing all of their own vegetables in an on-site greenhouse to sourcing ingredients solely from local suppliers, you’ll find the best caterers with the freshest produce — and ideas.

BTWC Co. Culinary Concepts elaborates by saying, “Party hosts, and guests, are becoming more health-conscious and want to hire a caterer they can trust to serve clean food that will make them feel good. The party doesn’t necessarily end at the end of the night. When you wake up in the morning, you can feel the difference in eating clean food.”

Keep reading to discover even more of our favorite catering trends to take over 2023. You’ll be the first of your friends to host the most delectable party of the year.

1. Sustainably-Sourced Is Best

PartySlate is proud to endorse caterers that practice and promote sustainability. Leaving this world a better place than we found it is a mission near and dear to these caterers’ hearts. Read on to find their insight on catering trends that are making a difference.

Delivering Experiences notes, “Food should be dynamic, creative, and inspiring. Sustainability is a very important trend in our industry that will continue in 2023. Using locally-sourced ingredients, reducing food waste, and moving to a greener service are ways to inspire guests through food.”

Deborah Miller Catering & Events comments on this topic, saying, “Clients want to see sustainability through every step of their event. Guests want to know that each ingredient in a dish is sustainable, that there is a focus on sustainability in a company’s culture, and that the dishes they’ve come to love can be made without undue impact on the environment. A focus on local producers for every step of the catering process is pivotal in achieving this trend, as well.”

Local sourcing also introduces guests who may be traveling from out-of-town to the local flavors of your region, providing a truly unique and delicious dining experience.”

2. Support Local Every Chance You Get

In addition to sustainable ingredients, locally-sourced ingredients are just as important to hosts and guests alike. Wine Meats Cheese says, “Post-shutdown, our clients have taken a keen interest in where their beverages come from as well as the stories behind the wineries, breweries, and distilleries that we purvey. We see this support as providing more and more artisans the opportunity to share their craft with us and the events we serve.”

3. Mushroom-Infused Menus Are In

We’ve seen cauliflower, kale, and chickpeas elevate from accompaniment to main dish. Now, mushrooms are the tasty new alternative. Beyond being one of our favorite new catering trends, mushrooms are being incorporated into every aspect of the party. 4. Open-Fire Cooking Is All the Rage

Party hosts are wanting to create an immersive environment for their guests. Open-fire cooking is the perfect way to accomplish this. This preparation style not only draws intrigue from passerby, it showcases the chefs’ talents and hard work. Find a few of our favorite examples from top caterers below.

A New Twist on an “Open-Concept Kitchen”

Unique Culinary Collective told us about a recent corporate event they catered, saying, “The client wanted their food and beverage experience to be the entertainment for the evening. Our operations and culinary team accepted the challenge and built a full guest-facing kitchen behind an 18-foot-station display.

“Featuring wood fire grills and ovens, charcoal spit, and more, freshly made gyros, kibbeh, and hummus were plated right in front of the guests. A feast of the eyes and senses allowed guests to interact with our chefs, learning about the craft. This unexpected approach to catering peels back the veil and gives guests the opportunity to see the inner-workings of the culinary team.”

5. Sweet Treats Go Vegan

Considering your guests dietary needs and choices is a way of taking care of them; it shows them that they are important to you. Catering by Design offers insight into this trend by saying, “its all about an increase in dietary, vegetarian, and vegan-focused options.”

They go on to say, “It’s no secret that we as a society have begun to reduce meat consumption in the past few years. We have seen a huge increase in requests for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other less-traditional menu options. Clients want full menus, food stations, and desserts that can accommodate a variety of dietary and allergy needs. Using fresh, local ingredients, we are able to create unforgettable menus that hit every dietary need.”

6. Childhood Classics Are Here to Stay

We have seen childhood treats come back in style in many elegant ways. Marcia Selden Catering & Events compares catering trends to fashion trends, saying, “Much like fashion, trends come back in and out of style. We have begun embracing the nostalgia of comfort food with a twist, elevating the fan favorites with fun and clever presentations.”

Kuma’s Corner notes, “Comfort food reminds clients of happy moments from home and their childhood. With so much constant change, we’re all holding on to a bit of the past. Choosing food that is associated with good memories of childhood and incorporating those flavors into your wedding is one way to do that.”

7. Mocktail Shooters & Shots Are In

We have seen mocktails rise to the top of bar menus in recent years. This year, we are predicting mocktail shooters and shots as a fun twist on this trend. With our focus turned to health and wellness, guests and hosts are opting for a non-alcoholic option.

Contemporary Catering and Event Production believes, “Exciting nonalcoholic beverages will have a big impact on events this coming year.” They go on to note, “There has certainly been a big push for promoting health and wellness. This is unique as it allows people to focus on human connection — the reason we party in the first place.”

8. Walls of Fame Get a Moment to Shine

We all know party-goers love a unique serving station. Footers Catering speaks of this trend, saying, “Vertical food stations are an unexpected and fun way catch your guests’ attention. They are fully customizable and add depth and height to a display. They can be interactive between Chef and guests, allowing for a more personal dining experience. Unique vessels elevate the presentation and allow guests to enjoy delicious food and conversation at the same time.”

Gaurav Anand says, “The majority of clients and guests are attracted by the presentation and appearance of food displays more than the taste — one eats with the eyes first.”

9. Tea Gets Boozy

Last year, we predicted tea stations as one of the hottest catering trends of 2022. This year, we are loving tea in a different form. Bubbles & Brews Massachusetts speaks of a trend being served up at their restaurant, Mecha Noodle Bar, located in Brookline, Massachusetts. Come partake in this tasty Boozy Boba trend that you won’t find anywhere other than their establishments, they say.

Deborah Miller Catering & Events also comments on this hot new trend, saying, “Boozy Boba is a new drink trend that is borrowing on the popularity of the Espresso Martini, but taking it in a new direction. Clients are increasingly seeking something less sweet and more complex that blends everyday life, yet the excitement of a cocktail.”

11. Move Over Champagne, Non-Traditional Towers Are In

We all love a classic Champagne tower, but top caterers are predicting a shift. “While Champagne towers were all the rage this summer, 2023 party hosts are going to look for something a bit more personal. Espresso Martini towers are going to be the new go-to, for brides, grooms, and party hosts alike,” says Dolce & Gelato Catering Inc.

Craft Cartel Cocktail Catering notes that with cocktail towers, “The emphasis is being focused on elements that provide a creative spin on the classics and areas that make the experience more fun and entertaining.”

Not Your Typical Tower

12. Napkins & Menus Become One in the Same

This is one of the sleekest catering trends that we have seen. Printing your menu on guests’ napkins not only saves space on the table, but saves paper as well. Try graceful calligraphy, as pictured below, or any menu style that fits your event’s theme.

13. Give Guests a Cultural Culinary Experience

At PartySlate, we are honored to showcase age-old traditions of all cultures — be it cultural wedding ceremonies, receptions, or celebrations of other milestones. My House Events comments, saying, “I think something unique is that people are really wanting to highlight the cultures they are from, and focus on specific foods that represent their backgrounds. Customization is key. A lot of people share Latino heritage and are excited to provide guests with nostalgic food that reminds them of what made them.”

Food First Events & Catering Co. says, “We get asked all the time to create unique fusion menus that incorporate our couples’ multicultural backgrounds into their wedding or party menus. We love when we are asked to create fusion menus with bold flavors because it allows us to show off our chefs’ true talents of developing delicious and unique flavors that make guests and couples feel like they are getting a true culinary experience at their event. Our goal is to hear, ‘This is the best wedding food we have ever had.'”

How can I make my event stand out from others?

The best part of any party is the cuisine. Find a top caterer near you who can incorporate some of the latest trends in catering that your friends haven’t seen (or tasted) yet. There are some classic catering elements that never go out of style, and some that evolve into something even better.

For example, the Champagne tower has been a beloved trend at weddings and special events for years. Now, caterers and hosts are moving towards alternative towers. Rosé, espresso martinis, and Aperol Spritz towers are all the rage these days. You’re sure to excite your guests with an alternative tower filled with your cocktail of choice.

1. Tall Wedding Centerpieces for a Modern Soirée

Modern weddings indulge in sophisticated designs and a glamorous aesthetic. Expect plenty of non-traditional textures such as mirrored metals and translucent lucite. You’ll still find the traditional all-white wedding color palette — but this time, with gold and black accents. Of course, no wedding is complete without florals. Look to orchids, organic greenery, and lavish roses to complete your modern vision.

Regular table candlelight becomes a cloud of floating tapers. Floral vessels turn into ornate pillars. Even the floral choices, such as decadent orchids and lavish roses, exude a more contemporary luxury.

People Also Ask…

How tall should wedding centerpieces be?

Cindy Berry Ollig, CEO of the perfect petal, and Kitzel Lynn Ruth, Wedding Director, get down to the basics: “If visibility and conversation is the MOST important aspect of your dining, we would opt for low tablescapes. If drama, design, and the overall look is what you are after, height is the way to go.”

They go on to say, “There are many ways to do this that are minimally invasive to the guests. However, some couples choose to forgo all worries of sight line for killer designs, and if that really speaks to them as a couple, we are all for it.”

They also remind us that not every celebration calls for added height. “You really have to think about your venue, the land, your mood and vibe, and the textures surrounding you to consider if a tall design is something that will add that extra flavor. Is your venue indoors or outdoors? Do you have other elements that would be competing with the tall centerpieces like lighting, an entertainment stage, ceiling installations, or tree line?” Ask yourself these important questions to determine if tall wedding centerpieces are right for you.

Most importantly, they emphasize, “It is key to always consider what speaks to your soul, what is your natural aesthetic, and what feels the most “on brand” for you. The most beautiful and authentic designs are the ones that mirror the couple — and speak to their most authentic selves.”

Lean into wood décor and plenty of greenery for rustic mountain vibes. Keep things elegant with the use of florals and shady umbrellas. Whatever your wedding style, a mountain wedding is sure to please everyone on your guest list.

Winery wedding venues offer the beauty of the outdoors with all of the amenities of a luxurious ballroom. Guests will love the dramatic scenery — not to mention, the award-winning wines. Consider hosting your rehearsal dinner at your wedding venue and offering a wine tasting for the ultimate engaging activity.

While winery weddings easily accommodate any style, we recommend letting the beauty of the natural landscape shine through with softer color palettes and a touch of pampas grass. Of course, you can’t go wrong with a burst of color.

Wedding Chairs Pull Your Whole Look Together — See Our Guide by Style

Wedding chair rentals might feel like just another entry on your endless list of to-dos — or it can be a joyful part of defining the aesthetic of your celebration. We’re here to make sure it’s the latter.

When I got married almost 25 years ago, I vividly remember the statement that my mother-in-law made to our venue contact: “No offense, but those chairs are offensive.” And just like that, we left the complimentary chairs in our wake and entered the world of wedding chair rentals (and I also learned that my mother-in-law could be counted on as a source of unfiltered truth). We found the perfect fit.

To make your selection process as easy as mine, we’ve compiled a list of chair types and finishes, sorted by wedding style. We’ve also consulted top rentals companies for guidance as you design your dream wedding. Lyka Manansala of Standard Event Rentals says, “When choosing chairs for an event, it is essential to consider the aesthetics of the event, which will ultimately help you choose the right chair style.” Which is exactly why we’ve sorted our list by wedding aesthetic.

Tiffany Sabin of CORT Party Rental says, “There’s a seat for every style and each selection can create a different vibe.” Angela Sayre of Posh Couture Rentals adds, “Style is your personal flavor. It’s worth remembering that, just like your home, not all rooms need the same exact chair or linen, etc.” Read on for more advice and examples from real weddings.

Also, don’t miss the following at the end of this article: things to consider when choosing wedding chair rentals, whether you should mix and match chair styles, and how to choose the right chairs for your ceremony and your reception.

The top rental companies whose work inspired this list of wedding rental chair styles appear below; find the best wedding rentals near you for the finest that your locale has to offer — and note that many rental companies work in a wider geographic area than where they are headquartered:

Romantic Wedding Rental Chairs

Romantic weddings tend to be dreamy affairs full of lush florals, ethereal drapery, and pastel hues. Such a celebration might include harp music during cocktails or swirling smoke during the first dance. It may lean more towards a fairytale vibe or a moody ambiance.

When considering which chairs pair well with a romantic aesthetic, we suggest choosing a seat in a hue that coordinates with your décor. Whether you opt for chairs in a rich palette or ruffled covers, Tiffany Sabin of CORT Party Rental says, “We suggest creating a mock-up table with all the trimmings and experimenting with various seating options. You may be surprised by the range of choices that blend perfectly with your aesthetic and reflect your personal style.”

Boho Wedding Rental Chairs

Boho weddings feature a free-spirited style that honors nature. Often, bohemian wedding ceremonies take place in a lush garden, a field with a sweeping view, or under an aged tree with branches forming a natural canopy. Imagine a blue sky with a high-peaked pole tent as a perfect reception setting and décor that is rich with pampas grass and florals.

Your wedding rental chairs will also affect the overall vibe of your celebration. Consider raw wood seating, woven chairs, and bamboo elements (perhaps mixed with more glamorous styles if desired). Angela Sayre of Posh Couture Rentals says, “Chairs are often the first thing you see walking into a ceremony or reception. They set an essential demeanor for the overall tone of the event. Aesthetic and comfort should always be considered.”

Coastal Wedding Rental Chairs

Coastal weddings feature a beautiful combination of sand and surf, sun and style. Imagine palettes with bright whites and ocean blues that create a calming, yet celebratory, mood. Take it tropical with shiny palm fronds or lean toward New England-style with green ivy and white blooms; either way, nature is sure to play a role.

And whether you’re saying your vows at the edge of the ocean or are far from the sea, you can still create a coastal style with your wedding chair rentals. Think whitewashed or weathered wood seating, textured or patterned table linen, and lots of draping greenery and twinkly lights. Katie McAllister of Hire Elegance says, “Your style and aesthetic is the most important when selecting your chairs. You want to ensure that your chairs are enhancing your design vision and other pieces such as florals, tables, linen, and lighting; not distracting.”

Glamorous Wedding Rental Chairs

A glamorous wedding is an event that goes big on style with statement-making décor and wow moments. Think color-drenched design and lots of gold, gold, and more gold. This is the time to add diamond-inspired accents and lush velvet details. Consider a gleaming gold dance floor, a tent with drapery billowing over crystal chandeliers, or a 360-degree photo booth featuring a rich sequined backdrop.

Deep red roses can create an instantly glamorous vibe, as can gleaming gold rental chairs. When it comes to creating a bewitching scene, don’t overlook candlelight, crystals, and ceiling floral décor. Add surprise moments with creative entertainment like a cocktail caterer that engages guests with couture sips that are as interesting to watch being made as they are to sip.

Elegant Wedding Rental Chairs

An elegant wedding is timeless. Expect clean lines, metallic details, and greenery accented by carefully-chosen florals. Classic white linen creates a beautiful base for rows of dreamy flickering candlelight and flowing flower runners that spill off the tables’ ends. At an elegant wedding, toasts will be made with Champagne, and as crystal clinks fill the air, the chic custom-monogrammed dance floor will fill with loved ones.

Wedding chair rentals for an elegant affair might be upholstered or slipcovered in white or cream hues. They may also feature polished wood elements. Or consider that the metallic details might be gold chairs, which will match and further accent gold tableware and vases. All of the neutrals of drapery and fabric will create a beautifully-layered and textured celebration for a gloriously cohesive (and elegant) vision.

Rustic Wedding Rental Chairs

Rustic weddings are here to stay. They’ve evolved past the barns and mason jars of years past (though we still adore a luxurious barn-set affair). Modern rustic-style weddings often feature bright florals, industrial elements, and loads of dreamy candlelight. One thing all rustic weddings have in common is their use of wood. Whether it’s a dreamy aged-wood and gauzy drapery backdrop for your nuptials, or a geometric wooden arch festooned with flowers, wood can and should play a design role in your affair.

Imagine billboard-worthy entertainment filling your custom plank dance floor with your loved ones before they rest on raw wood or classic metal Tolix wedding rental chairs — or both. Angela Sayre of Posh Couture Rentals says, “We love mixing and matching. It’s the very ethos of our brand and creates a thoughtfully-curated element to your event. Be bold and daring.”

Modern Wedding Rental Chairs

Modern style has endured because of its clean lines and ability to make a wow-worthy statement with minimal décor. Imagine an all-white room with mirror-topped alabaster tables festooned with white vases and vividly-hued Ikebana-style florals. The wedding chair rentals for this aesthetic might be luxuriously clean and white with rounded backs, creating additional visual texture with curves.

Or consider a color-drenched affair, with each table featuring a different richly-hued linen while the chairs are Ghost-style clear, allowing an uninterrupted view of the metal menus with candlelight playing off their surfaces. All of this is to say: A modern wedding can fit any idea you have, but it’s all about choosing which element is the star, then pairing it with minimalist décor choices.

Eclectic Wedding Rental Chairs

Eclectic weddings are just about as personal as you can get. They combine your style and your beloved’s aesthetic into one joyful celebration. Mixing and matching is the name of the game for an eclectic soirée. It is a blend of textures and florals and experiences that, when put together, create a totally unique vision.

Consider an outdoor celebration rich with wildflowers and natural beauty with upholstered, tufted wedding rental chairs in all sizes and colors providing comfort and beauty for guests under sparkling chandeliers hung from the trees. Lyka Manansala of Standard Event Rentals says, “When it comes to mixing different chair styles, there is no right or wrong. Incorporating chair styles is a great way to add contrast and flair to an event. Mix two different types or mix an array of styles for an eclectic look and feel.”

You’ll want to work with a skilled décor team to ensure that your celebration is beautifully cohesive, rather than jumbled. Their design eye coupled with your preferences will create a wedding that perfectly represents your love.

People Also Ask…

How do I choose rentals for my wedding?

Katie McAllister of Hire Elegance says, “The two main points that I discuss with clients when choosing wedding chairs are: 1) style and aesthetic; and 2) budget. First and foremost, you want to ensure that your style of chair is in line with the look and feel of your wedding. Second, take a look at your budget and guest count. You may opt for a less expensive chair for your ceremony as it may only be 45 minutes to one hour and a more speciality chair for your reception where guests will be sitting for a longer period of time and needing more comfort.”

Lyka Manansala of Standard Event Rentals agrees that “comfort is vital” and suggests having a chair with a cushion if guests will be seated for more than an hour. Additionally, she advises, “The shape and the material used can have a significant impact on the occasion. Whether indoors or outdoors, the event’s location is also a factor that should be taken into account when choosing the right style.”

Liz Curlin of Party! Dallas Rentals urges couples to consider “comfort and scale” when choosing wedding chair rentals. She says, “If you have to pack in your guests due to space limitations, consider using a clear chair. It makes the room feel lighter. And remember, not all chairs are the same. Chairs wider than 17 inches at the seat, can’t fit 10 to a round!”

Can I mix chair styles at my wedding?

Tiffany Sabin of CORT Party Rental says, “Do it! Mixing chairs, benches, and soft seating creates an interesting arrangement and unique experience.” Angela Sayre of Posh Couture Rentals agrees, adding, “Mixing different styles can often be the same cost while completely elevating the overall aesthetic of your wedding. In fact, the most beautiful weddings we’ve been fortunate to work on have mixed styles and shapes.”

Katie McAllister of Hire Elegance notes that mixing chair styles is a favorite at her company and says that the practice “adds a unique look and dimension to your event.” She offers the following advice: “You can opt for a different chair at just your sweetheart table or head table. Or if you are mixing tables, try a different chair at either table. We even suggest taking it a step further and enhancing your event tables with booth and sofa seating.”

When asked about mixing chair styles at an event, Liz Curlin of Party! Dallas Rentals says, “Yes, yes, and YES! We love to mix table styles and shapes so why shouldn’t we mix chair styles as well?”

Should I choose different chairs for my wedding ceremony and reception?

Tiffany Sabin of CORT Party Rental says, “Comfort is key for reception seating as this is where your guests will be seated the longest. Chairs with a cushion will be much appreciated after an evening on the dance floor. Feel free to be completely unrestrained when selecting your ceremony seating— show off your style!”

Angela Sayre of Posh Couture Rentals says, “Is there a lounge area? A slightly different vibe from the ceremony to the reception? We have a chair for every aesthetic — from farmhouse chairs and benches and classic Chiavari to midcentury and modern silhouettes and textures. We love seeing a curated feel from a couple and planner who know how to play.”

Your Venue, Your Way: Montage Kapalua Bay

When choosing your event venue, it can be hard to envision the details of your dream event in that space. PartySlate is here to help. Read on to find real events held at Montage Kapalua Bay, a stunning Hawaiian resort venue. You’ll gain inspiration and begin to visualize how your event could look in this beautiful space.

We talked to the team at Montage Kapalua Bay to get insight into the flexible and customizable nature of this stunning Hawaiian venue. One of our favorite aspects of an event venue, especially if your locale is particularly beautiful, is an outdoor space – with weather-safe options of course. Lehua Swezey, Meetings & Events Manager at Montage Kapalua Bay, explains, “The best part about all of our outdoor spaces is that each event can be reimagined.”

She goes on to paint a visual of the stunning resort by saying, “Montage Kapalua Bay is located on the Island of Maui, perched on a cliff overlooking the crescent shaped Kapalua Bay. Comfortably spread across 24 acres, this oceanfront resort offers expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, the Islands of Lana’i, and Moloka’i.”

Montage Kapalua Bay Event Spaces

“Outdoor spaces at Montage Kapalua Bay include The Point Lawn and Namalu Lawn,” Swezey explains.

She adds, “The most unique and desired space is The Cliff House, a historic building perched on top of a cliff face that boasts 180-degree views of the Pacific with unforgettable sunsets. The Cliff House is the ideal locale for celebrations and events. The service is impeccable, with genuine care and a luxury touch that embody the ‘Aloha Spirit.’

“The Serenity Pool is also a favorite outdoor destination for our guests and is where our Sunset Luau is performed throughout the week.”

This venue is perfect for outdoor events, as Swezey notes, “The entire Point Lawn can be used for your wedding ceremony, reception, dance, and photoshoot.”

Style #1: Enchanting

This stunning and delicate event style takes the beauty of the venue’s natural surroundings and infuses it into every aspect of the event. From pastel-hued florals filling the tables to the clear-top tent covering the outdoor reception space, this event honored the venue’s beauty in every way. For a dreamy look after the sunset, string lights illuminated the ceiling of the wedding tent for a starry night feel.

Swezey notes that “all event spaces can accommodate any family gathering.” From weddings to destination birthday celebrations, Montage Kapalua Bay is a dream destination for your event.

photographer: The Grovers | planner: LVL Weddings & Events | venue: Montage Kapalua Bay

She continues, “All accommodations at Montage Kapalua Bay are residential-style, with multi-bedroom suites and grand layouts. Each room naturally connects guests attending the wedding. Guests are able to reserve a private luau in their residence or join our weekly public Sunset Luau.”

Style #2: Island-Inspired

This muted bohemian event style took elements such as floral crowns, woven lanterns, and wildflower centerpieces and blended them into an understated, yet breathtaking motif. The waves crashing behind the colorful floral arch helped set the serene tone for this wedding.

photographer: Wendy Laurel | planner: Unveiled Hawaii | venue: Montage Kapalua Bay

Swezey describes the luxe experience that you and your guests will have while staying onsite: “The resort showcases the island lifestyle with a multi-tiered lagoon pool which cascades down the center of the resort – four restaurants and bars, over 50,000-square-feet of outdoor event space, and an intimate room for indoor meetings and functions.

“The 40,000-square-foot Spa Montage harnesses the essence of Hawaii with an exceptional palette of spa therapies, beauty treatments, and wellness offerings inspired by the tropical surroundings.”

Style #3: Tropical Elegance

This tropical event style infused a boho style with tropical elements to create the perfect affair filled with palm fronds and pops of bright color. This stylish wedding, held on the breathtaking Point Lawn, featured one of our favorite examples of unique place cards.

photographer: Matias Ezcurra Photography | planner: Unveiled Hawaii | venue: Montage Kapalua Bay

Your guests will love their resort stay (and the wow-worthy fare) as well. “Dining venues range from the upscale Cane & Canoe, to the casual dinner setting at The Hideaway, to the grab-and-go Mahana Market,” explains Swezey. Also enjoy “the full-service Spa Montage, historic Cliff House, neighboring two championship golf courses, tennis courts, and zip-lines.

“A cultural ambassador will guide you through the rich history of the islands through arts and crafts, music, dance and talk story sessions. Enhance the day with daily rituals such as koi fish feeding, hikes, fitness classes, children’s programs and more. Enjoy a series of special events in the area throughout the year, including Kapalua Wine & Food Festival, the PGA Sentry Tournament of Champions, and Champagne Hale at Cliff House.”

Swezey speaks of the essence of the resort by saying, “Here, you will feel embraced by genuine island hospitality and culture. It is truly the perfect setting for multi-generational family vacations, secluded getaways, executive retreats, weddings, or any special occasion celebration.”

MaryAnn Blanchard, Director of Meetings & Events at Montage Kapalua Bay states, “This property is a beautiful canvas for the wedding or event of your dreams. We partner with an extensive list of expert planners and vendors who work hard to understand and execute the vision of each of our clients. Additionally, our talented team of chefs will go beyond your expectations to create an exceptional culinary experience for you and your guests. An event here is truly extraordinary.”

From seaside outdoor spaces to bright and lively indoor spaces, your Montage Kapalua Bay event will be everything you dreamed, and more.

16 Stunning Garden Wedding Ideas Rooted in Romance

Garden weddings, much like gardens themselves, are romantic. For centuries, gardens have represented everything from new beginnings to renewal. Cultivated rose beds share their space with wild, untamed greenery — creating a space where give and take occur simultaneously — just like love.

While a garden wedding theme doesn’t require an actual garden, it should evoke the beauty of a greenery-infused space. Imagine lavish floral décor, shady gazebos, and luminous fireflies. For more inspiration, we reached out to two top wedding planners for insight into how to perfect a garden aesthetic.

Christina Currie, Lead Event Producer and Owner at Christina Currie Events, Inc., tells us, “Be inspired by the time of the year when planning your event in a garden.” Gabrielle Stone, President and Owner of Stone Event Planning, adds, “I personally love the idea of playing against nature” for a bold and eye-catching vision.

We’ve searched through thousands of real weddings on PartySlate to find our favorite garden wedding ideas. Keep reading to discover everything from romantic wedding centerpieces to garden-fresh catering. It’s time to let your wedding vision take root.

1. Plant the Seed with Floral-Forward Invitations

Wedding invitations give guests their first glimpse of the celebration ahead. Capture your garden wedding theme from the start with a custom-made invitation suite. Work with an invitations and print company to incorporate your wedding colors and flowers into the design. We especially love how floral-forward invitations can vary in color and materials, proving the rich variety of a garden-style wedding.

2. Select a Garden Wedding Venue

While a talented event designer can transform any venue into a garden dreamscape, a garden wedding venue boasts many distinct advantages. Garden venues come with their own stunning backdrops and abundant floral décor. Additionally, garden venues often feature built-in structures such as gazebos and arches that can be incorporated into your wedding ceremony.

Use PartySlate’s curated venue directory to find an available garden wedding venue near you. Narrow your search by venue type, guest count, amenities, and more.

3. Exchange Vows Beneath a Gazebo

Gazebos are easily the focal point of any garden. Keep all eyes on your nuptials with an exchange of vows beneath a picturesque gazebo. Best of all, these stunning structures are beautiful with both minimalist floral décor and lavish drapery. Ask your wedding planner and florist on how to accentuate your gazebo so it matches your wedding style.

4. Bring on the Blooms

A garden wedding isn’t complete without — you guessed it — flowers. Use blooms to bring a pop of color to the surrounding greenery. Wedding flowers are an easy and elegant way to incorporate your wedding color palette into your celebration. Work with your florist to find in-season wedding flowers that heighten your wedding décor and ambiance.

5. Capture Garden Details With a Curated Seating Chart

Continue your garden wedding theme with beautiful escort cards and seating charts. Choose a boxwood backdrop or ornate iron gate to display your guests’ names. We also love seating charts that double as party favors. Consider attaching each escort card to a vase of blooms for a thoughtful take-home gift that guests will cherish.

6. Create a Gardenscape with Greenery

The editorial team at PartySlate is obsessed with floral décor. However, we also appreciate the beauty of pure greenery. Incorporate greenery into your wedding décor for a fresh garden aesthetic. We especially love how greenery creates the perfect contrast for delicate floral details as well as lavish floral arrangements.

7. Set Your Tablescape With Wildflowers

Gardeners may favor one bulb over another, but nature always has the final say. Every cultivated garden is subject to the whimsy of wildflowers, and we couldn’t be happier. Capture the natural beauty of any garden space with wildflower centerpieces. Make sure to incorporate natural leaves and herbs like myrtle, mint, and sage for optimal effect..

8. Decorate with Garden-Inspired Dinnerware

Elevate your wedding reception tables with garden-inspired dinnerware. Guests will easily spend a majority of the wedding celebration at their tables, so it’s important to create a beautiful space for them to wine and dine. Custom dinnerware, along with wedding centerpieces, turn an ordinary dining experience into an act of celebration.

9. Pitch a Garden Wedding Tent

Create a weather-proof sanctuary, or stunning overhead canopy, with a garden wedding tent. We especially love how tented weddings can take décor to new heights with suspended lighting, foliage, and drapery. Head to our curated vendor directory to find top tent rental companies near you. You can even click into a company’s PartySlate profile to find real examples of their work.

10. Mimic Fireflies With Twinkling Lights

There’s a reason why wedding lighting should top your to-do list. As the sun sets and fireflies light up the evening sky, gardens become a place of pure magic. Recreate the luminance of summer fireflies with creative lighting installations that range from tented string lights to sparkler send-offs. We especially recommend utilizing a wedding lighting company to perfect the look.

How can you use décor and color schemes to accentuate the beauty of a garden venue?

“I always recommend using a natural color palette with garden venues,” Currie of Christina Currie Events, Inc., shares. “After understanding your color vision, then you can move forward with making decisions with your linen and all other rental items.”

Stone of Stone Event Planning continues, “If you lean into nature and florals outside, it’s always nice to use colors that will stand out against all the greens and whites (like hot pinks, oranges or yellows). Using rustic pieces of furniture always blend in nicely, as well.”

She also offers a unique twist when it comes to garden wedding designs. “I personally love the idea of playing against nature and adding luxe chandeliers for lighting, couches in different materials, velvet, satin, in dark pinks, purples or reds. Adding items that are really modern with clean lines are also fun at a garden venue because they are so unexpected. Any direction stylistically that you go, I recommend making sure you choose strong colors that will stand out against trees, bushes, and anything naturally flowering outside.”

What should I wear to a garden wedding?

First, always look to the invitation suite or wedding website for guidance. Garden weddings range from intimate backyard celebrations to grand, black-tie soirées. When in doubt, you can reach out to the couple for further clarification.

We also recommend taking weather and location into account. For outdoor garden weddings, we suggest bringing an additional layer (like a shawl or dressy cardigan) for when the sun sets and temperatures drop. Guests will also want to consider whether the celebration takes place in grassy or gravely terrains. Ask yourself questions such as, “Will I be comfortable wearing stiletto pumps all night?”
