Bar Mitzvah parties are known for their epic décor and creative party themes. So it’s no surprise that the best Bar Mitzvah centerpieces capture the vibe of the party — and turn each tablescape into the perfect photo op.
When it comes to choosing the look and feel of your child’s Bar Mitzvah party, it’s important to work closely with your Bar Mitzvah planner. We reached out to Victoria Dubin, President and Owner of Victoria Dubin Events, for insight into selecting the right centerpieces.
“We love getting creative and artistic with centerpieces, and often use unexpected elements for a tablescape,” Dubin tells us. “For our Pier Party, we used wood tables with bright colored, hand-painted graffiti style runners across the dining tables. Atop, we had an art-like installation of bright neon light-up tubes with complementary candle accents. For that extra pop and wow we did add a touch of rich saturated colorful floral accents in fun containers — all surrounded by family-style favorite foods displayed in whimsical and clever serving pieces.”
As you can see, so much thought goes into creating wow-worthy table decorations. Keep reading to see some of our favorite Bar Mitzvah centerpieces by party theme and style. Plus, discover some of the most popular themes and styles on PartySlate.
But First…Step Inside a Real Bar Mitzvah Party
Choose Bar Mitzvah Centerpieces by Party Theme
We love the innovation that goes into any Bar Mitzvah theme. While typical centerpieces may include florals and candlelight, Bar Mitzvah-themed centerpieces lean into creativity. Expect to find life-sized basketball hoops, beakers filled with experimental concoctions, charging stations, and more.
Help your child narrow down his Bar Mitzvah theme by considering the following favorites:
- Sports teams
- Activities
- School subjects
- Vacation spots
- Seasons
- Video games
Pro Tip: Work with your Bar Mitzvah planner to narrow down your child’s Bar Mitzvah theme. Once you’ve decided on a theme, head to PartySlate to find the right design and floral team to bring your vision to life.
1. Tailor Your Graffiti Tag
Keep your Bar Mitzvah party urban and hip with a graffiti theme. Go with spray-painted “brick” centerpieces, graffiti linen, or colorful abstract sculptures that evoke the flourish of graffiti scrawl.
2. Shine Bright With Neon
Get your glow on with neon table décor. Guests will love the novelty of black light place setting, funky lighting installations, and neon sculptures.
3. Up the Chill Factor with a Wintery Theme
Head to the slopes with a wintry theme. Use white florals to evoke fresh snowfall. Don’t forget to add in candlelight (both on and off the table) for the ultimate apres-ski effect.
4. Make a Touchdown
Get creative with your football theme. Use faux ice sculptures to feature everything from helmets to scoreboards. You can also recreate a real-life touchdown with goal post sculptures.
5. Give “Love” a Whole New Meaning
Sports fans will love how bright yellow florals and boxwood greenery evoke tennis balls — with or without the top spin. We also love “chandeliers” made with tennis balls and racquets. Lastly, consider filling a clear vase with tennis balls as well as flowers.
6. Make a Slam Dunk
Use bright orange blooms for a more subtle nod toward your basketball theme. If you’re looking to go all out, consider turning your tablescape into a basketball court with hoops and basketballs poised mid-dunk.
7. Experiment with Science
It’s time to experiment with creativity. Decorate your tablescape with molecular models, lab flasks and beakers, and colorful concoctions.
8. Turn to Technology
Create an Instagrammable look with a technology theme. Put charging stations on each tablescape and take inspiration from your favorite tech logos. Make sure to add in plenty of illumination and glow for a tech-forward vibe.
9. Take it to the Tropics
Cue the tropical vibes with monstera leaves, fragrant palms, and bright blooms. Create texture and depth with tropical linen, menus, and place settings, as well.
10. Put Your Best Foot Forward
Embrace your inner sneakerhead with vibrant sneaker centerpieces. Use shoeboxes to give your centerpieces a boost. Lastly, add in plenty of color with LED tables, eclectic linen, and branded apparel.
11. Cue the Nostalgia
Trends come and go. Technologies change. However, the past offers endless inspiration for a party theme. Center your theme around a beloved movie or video game that never loses its charm — even as the years go on.
Choose Bar Mitzvah Centerpieces by Party Style
Some kids might have trouble deciding on a party theme. Fear not. Party styles are a great alternative. Party styles create a cohesive (and timeless) look for your child’s Bar Mitzvah party. After all, your child’s hobbies and interests might change over the years. A party style will always resonate, long into your child’s future.
12. Make it Modern
Go modern with sleek metals, monochrome palettes, and geometric shapes. For a floral-forward look, consider calla lilies, orchids, and heliconia.
13. Bring on the Boho
Bring on the boho with plenty of pampas grass. You can keep the look more masculine with green and black accent colors. For a more whimsical approach, consider adding lanterns and succulents to your reception table.
14. Lean into Luxury
“Luxe” lends itself to many interpretations. Choose a dramatic color palette, like red and gold, for ultimate luxury vibes. You can also keep it luxe and playful at the same time with globed candlelight, tall floral centerpieces, and a hint of neon lighting.
15. Embrace a Rustic Style
Capture a more laid-back vibe with rustic centerpieces. Utilize branches, warm tones, and plenty of greenery to create a scene right out of summer camp.
16. Perfect the Preppy Vibe
Bypass the yacht and bring your preppy theme to life with a nautical-blue color palette and striped tablescapes. Some of our favorite preppy florals include hydrangea and ranunculus.

How do you decide on the “look” of your Bar Mitzvah party?

First off, talk to your event planner. Victoria Dubin, President and Owner of Victoria Dubin Events, tells us, “We always spend a great deal of time asking our clients all about what they love to do as a family, how they enjoy their time together, and what interests and hobbies the Bar or Bat Mitzvah child has.”
She breaks it down for us. “Recently we had a family that loves vacationing in California, so we recreated our version of the Santa Monica Pier and called it Pier H for Harrison’s Bar Mitzvah. This took place on one of the NYC Piers, and we incorporated all their favorite things from food to arcade games, music, specialty entertainment, and fun giveaways.”
